  • Award-winning park in the heart of Cumbria's Eden Valley near Appleby
  • Easy access to the Yorkshire Dales, Lake District and North Pennines
  • Pool, paddling pool and bar-restaurant on site
It's quite easy to roam wild from Wild Rose Park. For not only is this lovely little site set deep in Cumbria's Eden Valley with all manner of divine walks, hamlets and villages on the doorstep, it has very handy access to areas that holidaymakers come from very afar to see. The Lake District, the North Pennines and the Yorkshire Dales are all niftily accessible from Wild Rose, along with exceedingly handsome market town Appleby-in-Westmorland near by and opps for sporty days out at local golf courses. You should also settle down for a railway trip on the Settle-Carlisle Line, one of the most spectacularly scenic in the country – and a picnic at nearby High Force waterfall should be simply smashing too. It's easy to roam around and keep busy or relaxed on site as well with the heap of facilities to keep all ages happy: Wild Rose Park has a heated outdoor pool and paddling pool open from May to September (weather dependent), a play area and games room, and an on-site badminton court. Breakfast, lunch, dinners and takeaways are sorted at the site's Pennine View Bar and Eatery which has a good range of food to suit all tastes and budgets.

Local attractions

Wild Rose Park's nearest town, Appleby-in-Westmorland, is as cute as you'd expect from Cumbria – it was once a fiercely defended border stronghold from the time when the English and the Scots were wrangling, but is now a sedate and scenic market town with an 18-hole golf course, indoor swimming pool, individual shops and old traditional pubs (the best type). And it also has a castle, and an ancient church, both linked by the also-exceedingly scenic tree-lined main street of Appleby. The church, St Lawrence, is open all year for services, but for the castle, those wishing to have a nosy will need to book tickets for a tour from the Appleby tourist information centre as the castle is now privately owned. From Appleby, take the Settle-Carlisle Line through the Yorkshire Dales and the North Pennines for a very pretty day trip; the full run is 73 miles, but if you only have time for one leg of it, go towards Settle, to pass Ribblehead and the Ribblehead Viaduct. The Eden river, also as spectacularly scenic as you'd expect in Cumbria, has a lot to do along/in it and its tributaries – fishing, naturally, but also canoeing, boating, birdwatching or simply wandering along its beaut banks. Also in the area, have a look at the Lakeland heritage centre Rheged in Penrith and Tullie House in Carlisle, go swinging among the trees at Glenridding Forest or explore historical houses, family attractions and loads more: call into the Wild Rose Park reception or to the park tourist information room for top tips.

Glamping Hive camping pod (pet friendly)

Liked: Haripods are fantastic for the price really cosy but with a great range of facilities. Warm, shower and bathroom excellent.
The Halloween entertainment was great for all ages. Bar and bistro is very modern with lots of seating and a view of the park which is great.
The location is fantastic- if you visit please go to Lowther castle- a great day out.
Staff really friendly and helpful.
Can’t wait to come back!

Disliked: Gutted that there is no pitching for tents, as we camp in spring and summer and would have come back to this site in a heartbeat with our tent.
