  • Small, secluded back-to-basics farm site with a nature pond
  • A 10-minute drive from Halesworth; 20 minutes from Southwold
  • Play area and shared fridge freezer; friendly pub five minutes’ walk
Small is beautiful, so surround yourself with beauty at Sunnyside Campsite, a one-acre site with grassy pitches framed by ash trees and hawthorn hedges. This peaceful meadow is also easily accessible by public transport – Brampton station is a 30-minute walk (or a 10-minute bike ride) from base. This pretty farm site has a nature pond, a kids’ play area and a tumbledown old stable that houses the spick-and-span toilets and water point. Other handy facilities include a washing-up area and a shared fridge freezer. Campfires and barbecues are allowed (as long as they’re raised off the ground), and firepits are available to hire on site, while logs and charcoal can be purchased from the little honesty shop. Fish suppers are on the cards on Thursdays, when a visiting van comes round to sell fresh, locally caught seafood. Sunnyside Campsite is in a prime location for cyclists, who can set out on long- or short-distance pedals along National Cycle Route 1, which passes right at the end of the lane. Walkers and folk who like messing around in boats also have lots of options: the Suffolk coastline can be reached in under 20 minutes’ drive, while the Norfolk Broads are less than a half-hour away. The site is a few minutes’ stroll from a friendly community pub and a village play area. Cafés, restaurants and a larger supermarket are all in Halesworth (10 minutes’ drive).

What customers say

Campsite álainn, ciúin, le saoráidí glan ach garbh. Moladh na páirceanna fairsinge, an dúlra, agus an siopa macánta. Bhain páistí sult as na háiteanna súgartha. Moladh an tsiúlóid go dtí an teach tábhairne in aice láimhe. Dúirt roinnt daoine go raíibh an cithfholcadán neamhghnách.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked It was a nice site, with rustic charm. Plenty of space for children to roam with the added touch of hammocks in trees & rope swings to play in.

Sally was very welcoming & our pitch was easy to find. Nice to have proper recycling facilities on site.

Disliked The boiler was playing up & the shower ranged from boiling to freezing in seconds. Having to pay £1 for each shower on top of the pitch fees seems a bit unnecessary.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks very much for your comments. We are sorry to hear that you disliked paying for the shower. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the broken shower. during your stay.

Unfortunately we cannot provide unlimited free showers. The coin operated, metered system helps to reduce water wastage and pays towards the cost of electricity and water usage.

As mentioned previously, the shower unit is broken and is being replaced this week, Hopefully it will be up & running better again soon. There is a note in the shower room explaining the problem to guests and we ask for guests for their understanding during this time.

With regard to the cost of your stay, we are just a little back to basics, family run campsite. The pitch price includes a unique stay here on this old farm, with unlimited hot water at the sinks, drinking water, rubbish/waste disposal, a kettle, fridge/freezer, free tea, coffee, squash, a library of books & information, outdoor games, tree swings, free hand soap & washing up liquid, free charge points/sockets, and 24hr access to a little honesty shop. The addition of a shower is an optional extra. But with the provision of the electric kettle, hot water, wash basins/use of a bowl or a bucket .. we hope that guests can also manage quite well without this facility for a short stay.

We consider our pitch prices to be fair and affordable. Once pitchup have taken your booking fee, we receive just £6.50 per person per night at peak season for your family of four. This is even less at non peak times. So I hope you can understand why we cannot also include free showers to everyone!

Unfortunately you left without paying for the extra night that you had. Please get in touch to settle this as soon as possible or let me know if you have sent payment already.

Regards,
Sally & Richard 🌞🏕️

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Sally the owner is friendly and organised. The store has access to a kettle, fridge freezer and some supplies. Quiet site, with hammocks in the trees and a view of the sunset across the fields. Also Missy the chicken wandering about was sweet.

Sunny electric grass pitch

Liked Really pretty little campsite with good size pitches and good amount of space between pitches. There is a little play area for kids and mine really enjoyed the swings. Inside the old stables you'll find one shower and toilet, a separate toilet and a little honesty shop with a few basic things. The toilets and shower is very basic and pretty and clean. It's a very calm peaceful campsite, great for getting away and relaxing.

Disliked I would give it 9 stars, however the play area is run down and need repairing. The electric shower is burning hot or cold and need replacing. But there is note from Sally in the shower warning people about it and that they are aware it needs replacing. My only other complaint is the noisy alarm from the railway crossing gates that spoils the tranquility of the site. But nothing can be done about that.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks very much for staying for one night on the electric hookup pitch. Thanks for your critique.

Re your comments about the play area, the big trampoline has now gone… It’s had a lot of use of the years! The little play house will be removed at the end of this season. We are not likely to replace it. The tree swings are all relatively new!

We are awaiting for a reliable plumber to fit a replacement shower unit. Hopefully end of the week! 🤞

The railway crossing is a good thing as it provides a train service to & from Ipswich to Lowestoft. Lots of guests arrive by train and walk or bike here from Brampton station (1.5mi) away). The last train comes through at 10.30pm and we hardly notice the 2min alarms during the day.

This is a small, back to basics campsite for robust campers. We recommend guests to use this as a base and go out and about to explore & enjoy the local area. There’s several fantastic market towns, wildlife reserves and beaches nearby to visit during the day.

This is real, rural, farming area. Guests who are particularly sensitive to noises should bring earplugs maybe?

Regards,
Sally

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely friendly welcome from Sally, the owner. Lovely vibe to the whole place, with cool touches such as the vintage mirrors in the shower. It shows that the owner cares about the environment by the toiletries etc.
Fabulous little honesty shop with essentials such as rice ( and chocolate bars).
Quiet, clean, sheltered, large level pitches, friendly..... what else do you need for a camp site?

Disliked Nothing at all.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked We love this site for its rural back to nature setting, its small and our grandchildren love the swing over the pond, play area. The sunsets are amazing. There is a lovely little store with an honesty book so you can log what you buy and pay without having anyone to man the store.
There are fire pits for hire, these just add to the lovely atmosphere during an evening cooking marsh mellows on sticks.

Disliked We had to come home!

Local attractions

The sandy beach at Southwold (20 minutes) is dominated by the white bulk of the 19th-century Southwold Lighthouse and lined by colourful wooden huts. Stroll along the long pier, stopping for ice cream or fish and chips, then head into town and the Southwold Museum for a primer on local history. With their reed-lined ponds and shallow lagoons, the marshes of RSPB Minsmere (30 minutes) are home to avocets, curlews and marsh harriers – plus the occasional (but elusive) otter. Just up the coast from there, National Trust - Dunwich Heath and Beach becomes a colourful riot of purple heather in the summer. The tall spire of the cathedral in Norwich (45 minutes) is visible from far and wide. Explore the interior of this splendid 11th-century church, strolling through the cloisters and the choir, where (if you’re lucky) you might meet Budge, the cathedral cat. The Museum of Norwich at the Bridewell explores the history of the area.
