  • Well-maintained site a 10-minute drive from the Suffolk coast
  • A 15-minute drive to Southwold, and half an hour from Sutton Hoo
  • Pub five minutes' drive away; a few minutes from a shop and petrol
Fancy some downtime exploring rural Suffolk? The tree-shaded pitches at Hill Farm are in a peaceful setting near the historic town of Saxmundham, handily accessible from the A12 and close to Suffolk’s popular coastline. This is a site that welcomes families and groups of friends – and it's wonderfully dog-friendly too (there’s a four-acre woodland to the north of the site that's great for dog walking). The site has good TV reception for relaxing indoors on damp or chilly days. Raised gas-powered or charcoal/wood barbecues are allowed too (no ground or silver barbecues please), so you can keep warm and toasty while grilling up a barbecue feast. A pub in Darsham village is a five-minute drive away (or half an hour's walk along a farm track through the fields). The nearest shop is at the local petrol station, a few minutes' drive away (near to the Darsham train station). There's also a good local bakery a few minutes' drive away along the A12. The popular village of Westleton (10 minutes’ drive) has village stores, a farm shop, a garage and an art gallery. Back on site, there are several toilet blocks with hot running water, plus four showers. There is also a washing machine, grey waste and chemical toilet disposal and recycling.

What customers say

Campsite is quiet, friendly, with spacious, private pitches among trees. Facilities clean & adequate, if basic. Owner helpful. Great for exploring Suffolk coast. Some road noise & patchy Wi-Fi. Peaceful and good value.

Electric grass and earth pitch

Liked Site is lovely. We had secluded pitch which Jaik recommend as our dog is a bit nervous. Excellent size pitch - we have a large yurt and there was room for the car on the pitch and still plenty of space for BBQ and chairs etc. All pitches come with quirky little extras like storage or kitchen type surfaces - all hand built. Off floor fire pits are allowed which was one of main criteria and Jaik was able to supply us a small one and the wood too. Clean and cold drinking water on the pitch and plenty of bins available. Showers were got and toilets cleaned regularly.

We have been very spoiled for our first camping trip and we can't wait to come back again. Jaik was available for everything we needed and we just dropped him a message with any questions.

Absolutely 5* site.

Electric grass and earth pitch

Liked Loved our time at Hill Farm, much more facilities than you'd expect of a 'certificated location'. Jaik is a brilliant host, going above and beyond to make the stay a lovely experience. And he's really nurturing the woodland and surrounding space, loads of wildlife seem to thrive at Hill Farm. Also a great base for exploring - Aldeburgh and Southwold are easy to reach... and nearby Dunwich is beautiful with its shingle beach, fascinating history, rare wildlife habitat, fab pub and free parking.

Disliked Nothing to dislike, IMHO.

Liked Lovely quiet site with excellent facilities and a helpful manager. We stayed for two nights and had a wonderful stay. Jaik was very efficient and helpful, going above and beyond to enhance our stay. Toilet and shower facilities were well signposted and were clean, with clear instructions for use. Electric grass and earth pitch

Liked Really nice site with well spaced pitches among trees. Site Manager Jaik was on hand soon after we arrived and was absolutely brilliant. We forgot our pump and he kindly tried to help borrow one from other campers. He also thoughtfully moved a family that were booked into the pitch opposite, before setting up, to a more appropriate area. Great for everyone involved. Not much within walking distance but lots on your doorstep to drive to. Enjoyed our stay there, good value for money and they don’t add a load of extra charges. My pet hate!

Disliked Think the only criticism I have is the furniture that’s left around for people to use, whilst very considerate it did spoil the view amongst the trees and made the place look unsightly and run down, which was a shame. Easily fixable. I would suggest grouping it together somewhere and sign posted people to it.

Electric grass and earth pitch

Liked Jaik was a very helpful site owner and I don’t think I’ve ever seen such dedication from someone , cleaning the toilet area at 10pm last night to make sure it was clean for everyone.

Very accommodating to our needs ( we had a young dog and we was moved to a more suitable pitch to meet the dogs needs) , I highly recommend this campsite

Disliked The only thing was the WiFi was patchy at times and in only putting this as I have to

Electric hardstanding pitch

Liked Small size, ample facilities, helpful host.
The size is easily accessible from the A12 but doesn’t suffer from too much road noise. Facilities all functioned, were clean and just a little quirky. Wonderful.

Disliked Not a whole heap. Decent site. Bring some 20p pieces if you want to shower.

Electric hardstanding pitch

Liked Very peaceful site. All amenities are close to pitch. The owner was very helpful and you can see he works really hard to keep things running smoothly. Pitch sizes are of a decent size and private enough. I noticed a few comments about road noise.... it really isn't that bad! There is not much around within walking distance but that suited us. We wanted a few quiet days away and that's exactly what we had. We will be returning again. Plus great value for money!

Disliked Nothing!

Local attractions

Hills Farm is an great base for exploring the Suffolk coastline, with indie boutiques in cobbled streets and restaurants on the pier in the cute seaside town of Southwold (15 minutes’ drive), and an extensive sandy beach backed by dunes at Walberswick (10 minutes). Aldeburgh (20 minutes) is home to famous literary and music festivals, plus bracing strolls on the pebble beach and a renowned fish and chip shop. There’s plenty of history in these parts too, with stately part-medieval Orford Castle (25 minutes) open for tours of its angular keep, and you can follow a spectacular walk around the walls at Framlingham Castle (20 minutes). The star of the show here, however, might just be the Anglo-Saxon burial ground and museum showcasing its priceless, golden finds at Sutton Hoo (half an hour). Getting out and about in glorious and unspoilt countryside is easy too, with boardwalks crossing the heathland at National Trust-owned Dunwich Heath and Beach (15 minutes). At the famous RSPB Minsmere coastal reserve (20 minutes), you have the chance to spot otters in reedbed pools, with rare bitterns and avocets nesting nearby.
