  • Well-maintained site a 10-minute drive from the Suffolk coast
  • A 15-minute drive to Southwold, and half an hour from Sutton Hoo
  • Pub five minutes' drive away; a few minutes from a shop and petrol
Fancy some downtime exploring rural Suffolk? The tree-shaded pitches at Hill Farm are in a peaceful setting near the historic town of Saxmundham, handily accessible from the A12 and close to Suffolk’s popular coastline. This is a site that welcomes families and groups of friends – and it's wonderfully dog-friendly too (there’s a four-acre woodland to the north of the site that's great for dog walking). The site has good TV reception for relaxing indoors on damp or chilly days. Raised gas-powered or charcoal/wood barbecues are allowed too (no ground or silver barbecues please), so you can keep warm and toasty while grilling up a barbecue feast. A pub in Darsham village is a five-minute drive away (or half an hour's walk along a farm track through the fields). The nearest shop is at the local petrol station, a few minutes' drive away (near to the Darsham train station). There's also a good local bakery a few minutes' drive away along the A12. The popular village of Westleton (10 minutes’ drive) has village stores, a farm shop, a garage and an art gallery. Back on site, there are several toilet blocks with hot running water, plus four showers. There is also a washing machine, grey waste and chemical toilet disposal and recycling.

What customers say

Secluded woodland site, great for a no-frills getaway. Jaik's a legend, super helpful! Handy for sights. Facilities are clean but a bit retro. A12 noise sometimes, but folks love it and plan to come back.

Liked What a little gem just off the A12. Perfect for a relaxing couple of days away. Surroundings were beautiful, all the amenities were clean and working, jaik was so helpful and welcoming. But most of all the dog loved it!

Liked This was our first time camping in many years. From booking, Jaik was amazing. He contacted us on day 1 with all the information we needed for our stay. When we arrived Jaik was there to greet us. He is extremely friendly and loves a chat. He goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is perfect. Jaik works hard to maintain the cleanliness of the site and isn't afraid to do even the most dirtiest of jobs no matter what time, day or night it is. The site is set in the most amazing woodland area. It is immaculately clean and well looked after. If you are looking for a quiet site to stay, this is the place you need. The wifi signal is amazing and comes as part of your stay. The cost to stay is very worthy and good value. We have had the best week away and would highly recommend this site to anyone. We are actually already talking about returning next year with friends and family for a longer stay, as we feel 7 nights was just not long enough. 😊

Liked Great stay at Hill Farm, it’s so close to the usual attractions, Southwould, Walberswick and Dunswich beaches. Great walks for my dog early morning in the woods and we did venture to the Fox Inn in Darsham, early morning again so we didn’t experience their menu. It you have the pleasure of meeting Jaik, what an amazing guy, he alone created everything on the site from scratch and strives to make it perfection. I will definitely visit this site again.

The negative responses I have read, there is little noise from the A12 and the map is clear when you book! The moron that left because the toilet was a mess, there are disrespectful campers, sad. If the campsite owner/manager isn’t made aware (they can’t check every few hours), what do you expect? As for the furniture left around, maybe it’s useful, if not move it out of your sight.

If you want a decent camp with a decent site, book this.

Local attractions

Hills Farm is an great base for exploring the Suffolk coastline, with indie boutiques in cobbled streets and restaurants on the pier in the cute seaside town of Southwold (15 minutes’ drive), and an extensive sandy beach backed by dunes at Walberswick (10 minutes). Aldeburgh (20 minutes) is home to famous literary and music festivals, plus bracing strolls on the pebble beach and a renowned fish and chip shop. There’s plenty of history in these parts too, with stately part-medieval Orford Castle (25 minutes) open for tours of its angular keep, and you can follow a spectacular walk around the walls at Framlingham Castle (20 minutes). The star of the show here, however, might just be the Anglo-Saxon burial ground and museum showcasing its priceless, golden finds at Sutton Hoo (half an hour). Getting out and about in glorious and unspoilt countryside is easy too, with boardwalks crossing the heathland at National Trust-owned Dunwich Heath and Beach (15 minutes). At the famous RSPB Minsmere coastal reserve (20 minutes), you have the chance to spot otters in reedbed pools, with rare bitterns and avocets nesting nearby.
