  • Family-run site opened in 2016, near the Suffolk Heritage Coast
  • Wet weather facilities including games barn and picnic tables
  • Modern amenities block with underfloor heating
Owners Maria and Guy at The Croft Campsite in East Anglia know what makes guests tick: they've added heaps of little touches to this popular little site a short drive from the Suffolk Heritage Coast. Opened in 2016, The Croft is a small family-run countryside site with a friendly vibe, high-quality amenities and loads of room to play. It's in the village of Ubbeston, near the market towns of Framlingham and Halesworth, and a couple of miles from the pubs and supermarket in the village of Laxfield. Help yourself to a tea, coffee or squash when you arrive, then set up in this pleasant spot; the owners are always around if you need any help. And then investigate your surroundings: The Croft has a big field for football, kite flying and general running around, and a barn kitted out with ping pong tables, table football and ride-on toys. The Cart Lodge is a communal space with picnic tables for dining away from your pitch. Four-legged guests can dash about at the dog run area, which stretches to a third of an acre, while kids spend some time on the traverse wall and wooden adventure trail at the outdoor playground. Barbecues are held here on Fridays, egg, bacon or sausage rolls are generally available on Sundays, and croissants and pain au chocolat can be ordered every morning. There's no shop, but camping essentials like torches and batteries are available for sale. Other facilities include a well-kept toilet and shower block, washing-up facilities, chemical disposal and a washing machine and dryer. The owners are happy to charge mobile phones and battery packs for free. The nearest town to the site is Halesworth, a scenic 15-minute drive away.

What customers say

Grand spot, Maria and Guy are sound, pitches are grand and clean. Super facilities, especially the toilets. Kids love the play barn. Friday BBQs are a hit. Showers could be hotter for some, and a bit of noise now and then, but mostly grand.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Super clean site with excellent facilities and a great play area for the kids. Friendly staff and owners, bonus points for a ginger cat that everyone fell in love with.

Disliked It is quite far away from a decent sized shop for emergency provisions but that's our fault.

Electric grass pitch

Liked So friendly! Maria and Guy were fantastic so helpful with things to do locally. Despite being nearly fully booked the campsite never felt crowded. The shower block was spotlessly clean and the showers were wonderfully hot. The pre ordered pastries on a morning were delicious.

Liked Fantastic place. Facilities nice, clean and modern. As a mum I liked the family facilities. Maria and guy are very friendly people who made the overall experience even better. The children loved the barn, park and go-karts. Star gazing was great here and there isn’t really any noise at night other than wildlife which is nice.

Liked Really well organised campsite. Nice spacious pitches, and the playground and barn with games were really appreciated by our daughters. Everything is well maintained. The facilities are spotless and there are plenty of them. The bbq on a Friday night was also really nice. I hope to come back!

Local attractions

The Croft Campsite has easy access to the Suffolk Heritage Coast and the river estuaries of the Blythe, Alde, Deben, Orwell and Stour. Get out into Suffolk for its famed beaches, rivers and peaceful roads – this county has the lowest rainfall in the UK too, always a plus for an outdoor break… About 30 minutes' walk away (or a two-mile drive) is the ancient village of Laxfield, reachable via a riverside walk along the Blythe from Ubbeston. Have a sup in one (both?) of its two pubs (beer is still tapped directly from the barrel in one and food is served in the other), then have a wander around the museum in the 16th-century Guildhall, open at weekends in summer. Day trips and wanders around Suffolk attractions and towns are easily accessed from the site: Framlingham and its castle overlooking the mere (do take a wander around the ramparts); Orford with English Heritage keep, boat trips along the River Alde and Orfordness-Havergate National Nature Reserve and lighthouse, and Minsmere, home to the coastal, woodland, wetland and heathland habitats of RSPB Minsmere.
