General

  • Spectacular views among woodland and Broad walks
  • Canoes and kayaks available to hire
  • Three local pubs within a 20-minute walk

As you might guess from the name, Salhouse Broad's Camping Corner is a place where it’s simple to get out and about on and around the water; this pretty place is part of the Broads, the rural waterways of Norfolk and Suffok that’s a top spot for boating of all sorts.

And it’s simple indeed to get out on the water from this scenic site, as it sits right by the water and guests can hire canoe and kayaks to paddle along at their own pace to nearby Wroxham or Horning. A splendid alternative is also on offer if that sounds a tad too energetic: the Salhouse Broads ranger can take up to five passengers at a time to the spectacularly scenic and serene Hoveton Great Broad Nature trail, only accessible by boat.

Base yourself at Salhouse to explore the Broads by foot, bike or canoe, all among lush views, woodland and broadside walks with a variety of species to see for the nature spotters. Salhouse and Woodbastwick villages are within strolling distance at about 10 minutes each and there’s loads more to see and do within driving or public transport distance: Norwich, Wroxham and Horning are all close by and the local bus stop (with services to all three) is 10 minutes’ walk away. The bus service between Salhouse and Norwich or Wroxham operates every hour and the train service stops every two hours.

Salhouse Broad's Camping Corner is a friendly, laidback and basic site for tents only, with pitches in a corner of a field close to a broad. The site has a standpipe for drinking water, portaloos within the main camping area for guests to use; please note that there are no showers or hot water.

The pitching area is car free and is 10 minutes’ walk from the car park – wheelbarrows are often available to help cart your kit but the site team recommends packing light.

Three pubs are within 20 minutes' walk at Woodbastwick.

The area is lovely, direct access to the broads and nice walks nearby. The fur and feather pub and brewery is a 15 minute walk away and they do great food and beers. Your pretty much left alone apart from being offered a fire pit and wood in the evening - would be perfect for a group of friends.

    Disliked:

Toilets had no lights as just portaloos so they were in a pretty bad state by the time the evening came along. Signage to the campsite is hard to spot but once your on the right track it’s fine.

I really liked the pitch itself, very nice and very clean. Easy to access the broad with kayaks through a gate. Easy to launch kayaks. The toilets are cleaned regularly and very tidy. No rubbish left on the site any where.

kovely location right by the broads, we had lovely walks down by the boats during the day, there is plenty of field space for the children to let off steam during the day, we took a little bit of fishing gear along and found a lovely spot for all our children to catch a fish each, in the evening it was great to be able to hire a fire pit to sit round for some chill out time

    Disliked:

The chemical toilets aren’t the best but ok just for a couple of nights, we were a bit disappointed to be in between 2 groups of noisy adults that were taking lout well past the 9pm quiet down time set out in the rules of the campsite but I guess there is nothing that can be done about that on a campsite that isn’t staffed in the evenings, the only other downside was not being able to take cars down to the tent, even if it’s just to drop the stuff off

Lovely quiet spot, right by the broads! Nice to walk the dog in the woods, and very helpful staff. Was a bit worried about the portaloos but they were kept very clean and well stocked with soap and toilet paper.

Was little field where pitched and couldn't park car next to tent

From the manager...

We're glad you liked the area and the Broad. On our listing, we state that there is a 10 minute walk from the car park to the campsite, however this season we have allowed cars up to the campsite, but cars are not permitted in the camping area. I'm sorry if you feel mislead.

lovely location right beside the Broads, the site ranger is very helpful and efficient
And the fire pit hire is an added bonus on a chilly September evening

    Disliked:

The chemical toilets were ok when we arrived but not emptied enough so at the end of our stay they were too blocked to Flush
We were disappointed that either side of us were a group of adults playing music and making a lot of noise much later than the 9pm stated on the rule sheet
The stay would have been much nicer if you could park your car beside the tent and not a 2 minute walk away

Campfires permitted, firewood for sale, lovely quiet area, beautiful location on the broad, beer truck on site, canoe hire, rangers very friendly and came round to speak to us every night. Visited in August so we were able to park near the tent, but the walk from the car park wouldn't have been too bad.

    Disliked:

Site sold out of firewood on our last night which was a shame but told us of a local garage that we could buy from.

From the manager...

We're glad you liked your stay, apologies that we ran out of wood, hopefully we will see you again another time.
