General

  • Adults-only site on a farm two miles from Huntingdon
  • Two miles' walk to village pub for food and beer
  • 45 minutes' drive from college tours and punting in Cambridge

Hunting for a place to stay near Huntingdon? Get along to Glebe Farm Caravan Park, an adults-only two-acre rural site on a working farm in the cracking Cambridgeshire countryside, a couple of miles from Huntingdon and St Ives.

Settle in here and you’ll be surrounded by serene cereal fields – the farm’s speciality is growing gluten-free porridge oats. Take a walk on the trails around the park to see where your grub is grown and meet friendly farm horse Sorrel; look under your feet and see if you can spot evidence of the remains of two World War II planes (a Wellington Bomber and a Mosquito) lurking beneath the surface.

If you fancy a longer walk, there are plenty of country footpaths around the site; site owner Rebecca’s happy to dole out advice, including pointing you on your way for the two-mile trot to the Crown Inn, a trad pub that serves up tasty meals. There's also a good choice of pubs, restaurants and cafés in Huntingdon, St Ives and in the local villages.

Barbecued crocodile for dinner instead? A farm shop a few miles away specialises in unusual choices for your DIY meals, alongside a more traditional range of cheeses, deli produce and meats, and you’re welcome to light up a barbie back at base.

As the folks here mainly focus on their farming activities, they’ve kept the facilities to a minimum, just installing a toilet/shower block and setting up a free wifi connection.

Glebe Farm is a quiet, peaceful spot nestled in the middle of the countryside. Rebecca was very welcoming and helpful. It is not a big campsite so for those who enjoy a smaller, more tranquil place, it's ideal.
The shower block was clean and warm.
They also have a little hut where they sell a few homemade things, such as oat milk and granola.
During the day, the farm is active but it didn't bother us, during the night there is no noise whatsoever.
There is a water fill up station and a place to empty your grey and black water too.
All in all, we had a very pleasant stay.

    Disliked:

The only downside is that there is only one shower for the whole campsite and one loo each for ladies and gents, however it's not the end of the world and it didn't cause any problems, we just had to wait a bit to have a shower.
Also, for some reason, I only got 2 minutes of hot water and then ended with a freezing cold water to finish my shower.

The friendly welcome Rebecca gave us and the helpful advice re walks in the area. A quiet, rural pitch on a working agricultural farm. They sell the the lovely gluten free cereals they produce. The site is just the right size for a peaceful stay and adults only appealed to us too. There is a small accessible, clean toilet and shower block and the road is some distance away which makes it quiet. Great that they offered WIFI.

    Disliked:

It would be helpful to display a sign saying Glebe Farm Camping as we passed the Glebe Farm sign twice, not realising they were one and the same. The water tap lacked a hosepipe and we had to manouvre quite a bit to make our own short one fit in order to put water in the van. Also, there is a large pile of rubble and another pile of old wooden pallets near the tent area. These look unsightly and could pose a threat in strong winds, especially to people in tents. Also, there was an extra charge per night for electricity which was unusual and made the site more expensive than we thought it should have been.

From the manager...

When campers book, we send them a text with directions. Google Maps > Glebe Farm Caravan Park works well. We don't really like to advertise caravans on site in order to avoid theft as a precautionary measure. The sign Glebe Farm is 4m long by 3m high outside the entrance.

We have ordered a hose pipe and it will be installed asap.

The Aggregate heap, next to tent field, is 100m away from where the caravaner was staying in the caravan field. The wooden bonfire heap is over 200m away and is screened by a 3-4m high hedge line which is part of the farm. We have no any incidents of wood or stones blowing about in high winds. We are also in the process of screening off the aggregate heap near the tent field

We charge £22/night for the hardstanding pitch and £4/electric/night which we think is reasonable, as it gives the option if people to go off grid.

Very nice quiet site with an excellent security set up and modern EHU. The pitch we had was flat and ideal for the caravan. We were met at reception and didn’t see anyone else throughout our stay but it was made clear that help was there if we needed it.
The toilets and showers were very clean and the water was perfect for a nice warm shower at the end of the day.
The village was easily accessible from the site and nearby walks suited our dog perfectly.

    Disliked:

Wi-fi signal wasn’t that good but then the whole area suffers from poor 4G signal. We went old school and read books and listened to the radio!

Local attractions

A couple of miles away is the working 18th-century watermill Houghton Mill and Waterclose Meadows. Once you’ve seen the mill in action, take a canoe trip along the Great Ouse river, or head out for a country walk or cycle ride – you can walk from here to St Ives or Huntingdon, or cycle along safe paths all the way to Cambridge.

For a bit more outdoor action, there’s sailing, canoeing and an eight-mile bike trail at Grafham Water (20 minutes’ drive), or fishing at Earith Lakes Fisheries (15 minutes). For alfresco animal antics, head to Hamerton Zoo Park (20 minutes) to explore on foot or ride the little road train.

History buffs may like to take a trip to the Cromwell Museum, 10 minutes away in Huntingdon, or a wander around Wimpole Hall (40 minutes away). Ely cathedral is about 35 minutes away by car, and it’ll take you 45 minutes or so to join the clever folks in Cambridge to tour the colleges or punt your way along the River Cam.
