  • Dog-friendly farm-style site on the edge of the Peak District
  • A 20-minute drive from Buxton and 25 minutes from Alton Towers
  • Walking distance from watersports and pubs; walking trails nearby
Pining to get away to the pretty Peak District? From Camping at The Hollies, a farm-style site on the edge of the national park, you’ll be able to put your best foot forward and get to walking or biking through valleys, woods and caverns… or mix it up with a meander in some of the park's characterful towns such as Buxton, 20 minutes’ drive away, and Bakewell, half an hour's drive away. The backdrop here is The Roaches – just one of the good spots for hiking in the area. There are more walks accessible right from the site or a short car ride away. While you’re exploring, you may want to pay a visit to Tittesworth Reservoir, just 15 minutes’ walk away down the road and a proper watersports haven. The reservoir also has a kids' playground. Pubs are also on hand to keep up the merry time, including a couple within walking distance. In Hartington, 20 minutes’ drive away, there are village shops, cafés and tea rooms for a coffee and a cake (or two, depending on how far you’ve walked). Leek (five minutes’ drive) or Rudyard (15 minutes) are other local spots with shops, restaurants and pubs. On site, a few sheep and chickens roam around. Plus, a resident pizza van called Pipers Pizzas sells delicious stonebaked pizzas (done in a woodfired oven and very much liked by many guests) every Friday and Saturday from 4pm and on bank holiday Sundays from 4pm. There are basic facilities – on-site toilets (proper ones, not portable-style) are provided, and there are four showers (bring coins for the meters if you want to use these). Firepits are available to hire, but they require a cash-only deposit, and you'll only be allowed to burn wood purchased on site. To make sure everyone gets a good night's sleep, quiet hours are set between 10pm and 7am.

What customers say

A grand, easy-going spot with lovely views of The Roaches. Loads of pitches, pick your own! Basic but clean facilities. Pizza van & fire pits are a bonus. Friendly staff & great value. Can get a bit busy with loos and showers, and a touch of road noise.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Nice well kept tidy site with great views. Relaxed atmosphere pick your own spot put up your tent and enjoy camping as it should be and used to be. Three field's you choose it's that simple.
Owners come around and see if all is ok and offer firepits for use in the evening. Facilities are clean and presentable with the shower costing £1 for five minutes. The showers are large enough and provide a good hot powerful shower with ample time.
Possibly a good idea as this generates a fair time for all as some sites I've waited half an hour for some people.
The site is relatively flat with short grass and pitching was easy in the ground for a large tent.
Nice to have quite after 10pm every tent seemed to respect on our visit.
Great area for walking climbing etc and close enough to get to leek for provisions being just a few minutes by car
No mod cons but that's how it should be (reconnect to nature)
Nice to see a few red kites around the area

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked This was our first time camping and just 30mins from home what a little gem we found. From the moment you get there and see that view you just feel relaxed. You choose your own pitch and have 3 fields to choose from all within walking distance to toilets and showers which were very clean and toiets well stocked with toilet paper. We pitched up on the middle field right in front of the view of the roaches. Our 2 dogs had 10m leads and didn't even come close to anyone else's tents or campers so you have plenty of room. If you have kids there's plenty of space for them to play. Yesterday was really hot so we didn't go walking with the dogs but being local tittesworth reservoir is a stones throw away and is lovely to walk around and there's also The Three Horseshoes pub a 5 min walk away for a nice drink and food (we didn't go but again, being local I know the pub has always had a solid reputation and is lovely outside too when the weather's nice). There was nothing we disliked about this camping spot and will definitely be returning. 10/10. Keep doing what you're doing 😊. We paid £22 for 1 night (£18 pitch and £2 per dog) and we would have paid that just for the view.
P.s for anyone moaning about not having hot water to wash up with, it takes 2mins to boil a kettle. You're not at the ritz you're camping get over it and enjoy the experience 😊

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked The freedom of choices for pitches, the view from the campsite. The option to have a fire and the easy access to fire pits and wood/kindling (also very affordable).

Disliked More toilets would be good given the size of the site.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Field was spacious and pitches were nice and even.. Food van was great but a little pricey, toilets were clean and accessible.. Because there was no electricity we had no issues using the local pub up the road Three horse shoes to charge phones etc.. which offered fantastic carvery for just £11

Disliked nothing to dislike, but would’ve liked own fire as you have to pay for wood on site and hire the fire pit etc

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Camped at The Hollies for the 4th time this weekend. Absolutely loved it. Such a great site, beautiful weather, stunning views, great location, facilities kept clean and tidy - even on a very busy weekend, and owners very friendly. We stayed in the lower field this time, but both fields are great for camping. Lovely addition with the food van on site. Will definitely be back for a 5th visit! Got to see a few shooting stars at night in a beautiful sky.

Local attractions

In such a scenic setting, you may well spend a lot of your time outdoors … there’s a valley trail and Thor’s Cave in Manifold Valley (20 minutes’ drive) and cavern tours and woodland walks around Poole's Cavern & Buxton Country Park (15 minutes). Skip over the stepping stones at Park Dovedale & the White Peak (half an hour) or do the loop around Dovedale (half an hour), another top beauty spot. Rudyard Lake (20 minutes) is heavy on adventure too, with an activity centre, steam railway, cycle paths and boat trips. If you’re particularly daring, Madrenaline Activities (10 minutes) runs outdoor activities such as segways, axe throwing and archery. Alton Towers (25 minutes) has many more adrenaline thrills. Family-friendly attractions are all around, including Peak Wildlife Park (15 minutes) and the ice cream farm at Blaze Farm & The Potty Sheep (20 minutes). If it’s a peaceful place you’re after, Bakewell (half an hour) and Matlock (45 minutes) both fit the bill. The former has Bakewell puddings and a medieval bridge and the latter is a historic spa town. Biddulph Grange Garden (20 minutes), a National Trust landscaped Victorian garden, is just as peaceful.
