  • Family-run site with on-site fishing and a café
  • Steps from the Shropshire Union Canal
  • Adults-only and dog-friendly; canalside for dog walks
If you had thoughts on an ideal setting for a hol between England and Wales, Hadley Park might well be it. It's in the Shropshire countryside on the border with Wales, next to the Shropshire Union Canal, and a handsomely scenic walk from Whitchurch, Shropshire's oldest market town. Hadley Park is a family-owned and run site that's set up for adults only. It has a small pond where guests can fish – for a fee; a big sundeck overlooking the pond, and a fully licensed on-site café serving fresh local produce. You can also have your hair smartened up in the Hadley Park salon: just enquire when booking using the details in your booking confirmation email. Amenities include a launderette and a washing-up area; there's also a chemical disposal point, and a modern well-kept toilet and shower block with disabled facilities. The park is adults-only and welcomes well-behaved dogs. A service station with fast food and coffee outlet is 400 yards away.

What customers say

Great for couples: spotless modern loos & showers, peaceful, by the canal for walks to Whitchurch. Nice fishing. Cafe's good. A bit of road noise & pitches/bins could be tidied.

Randolf camping pod

Liked Great site - next to the canal with an easy walk along the canal into Whitchurch and its excellent pubs. Everything on site is clean and tidy. The utility block houses toilets, showers and washing up room. Never a queue for showers (which were very hot!), washing machine and microwave also available. Although not in a tent this time, it seemed that there was plenty of space for each pitch. Aldi is less than 5 mins away in the car and if you like such things there is also an adjacent Starbucks and McD. But best of all NO BRATS!

Disliked If in a tent or indeed the pods the one downside was no freezer for icepacks, so had to put up with slightly warm milk every morning and any fruit and veg went over quickly in this hot weather, which is a bit annoying. Be aware that the nearby road is quite busy, so if you don't like such noise then this probably is not the site for you, though it didn't bother us.

Joyce camping pod

Liked I loved my visit! As a solo traveller, the site was quiet and peaceful with a lovely view over the little lake, especially at sunset. The amenities were perfectly clean and scrupulously checked and I liked the little communal area which had a firepit and seating right next to the lake. Check in was really easy and staff so friendly and helpful. The site is well situated in Shropshire and there's loads to do and visit if you fancy exploring.

Disliked Slight road noise as next to an arterial road but a comfortable and peaceful night's sleep regardless as it quietens down later on.

Local attractions

Staying close to home from Hadley Park, the old Shropshire town of Whitchurch is less than a mile away, and the walks of the Sandstone Trail as well as the hacks of the Bishop Bennet Way are easily accessible via the Shropshire and Union Canal on site. Elsewhere, several famed Shropshire and Cheshire sights are within 20 miles of the park, like Chester Cathedral and the city's Roman ruins and amphitheatre; Chester Zoo and Chester Racecourse; the fab follies of Hawkestone Park, and the llamas, alpacas and 50 acres of greenery of Cholmondeley Castle Gardens. Nearby Shrewsbury is famed for its annual flower show and for its Darwin Trail commemorating the life and work of evolution dude Charles Darwin who was born in the town. More modernly, a good range of plays are held at the new Severn Theatre and several riverside pubs and restaurants are around at which to while the night away. The bars, cafés and independent shops of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Llangollen are within driving distance: other top town picks are a picnic in Riverside Park, a stroll along Victoria Promenade, and a steam straight ahead on the Llangollen Railway.
