Wellness Woodlands: Stargazer bell tent

General

  • Campsite next to the Severn Valley Railway in Shropshire countryside
  • A 25-minute drive to West Midlands Safari Park; Ironbridge 40 minutes
  • Kids’ playground, fairy village and nature ponds; steam trains nearby

What a spot for vintage train lovers. Wellness Woodlands has a peaceful rural setting with views over Shropshire countryside near Bridgnorth. A stay here offers all comers the chance to spy steam engines chugging past the camping field on the historic Severn Valley Railway.

Round and about on site – set over 20 acres so there’s lots of walks to explore amid woodland planted with native trees – you’ll come across four peaceful wildlife ponds as well as the resident geese, chickens and ducks. You may also be lucky enough to see buzzards and red kites circling high in the sky, or woodpeckers flitting among the trees.

Kids are welcome with open arms, and they can keep themselves entertained at the play area, find ropes swings in the woods and discover the themed fairy village. To keep you, your offspring and any dogs safe, no vehicles are allowed by the pitches.

This is an eco-friendly, off-grid campsite (note: off-grid equals no electricity) set among trees or on grass – no-frills amenities include (male and female) showers and flushing toilets, plus an outdoor sink for washing up.

If the weather turns, simply take cover under the HUB communal area, and as far as catering goes, you can buy foodie supplies in Highley (five minutes’ drive) or dodge cooking altogether by eating in the pubs there. Back at base, buy freshly laid eggs for a breakfast fry up and honey produced by the resident bees.

Please note that this is a quiet site and that portable sound systems are not permitted. Quiet hours are in force between 10pm and 6am, so please be considerate of others during these times and remember that the sound of your voice can carry.

Please note

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

No electric barbecues allowed.

If reception is closed on arrival: please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

What a great place. Sharon welcomed us and showed us round, so friendly and helpful, she puts you immediately at ease. You can pitch where you fancy and they help you take all your stuff down to the pitch. The facilities are clean and they gave a communal hub with toys and tea, which we didn't use but can imagine when it rains would be fab.

I was worried before I arrived that the kids would be bored but I barely saw my 5 year old as she went off making friends on the play area, she loved the rope swing in the tree.

The two year old was in awe of the tractor, and he had freedom to roam as we pitched by the play area.

The little touches like a little story area under a tree with books and blankets, swing ball, mud kitchen are fantastic. They have fairy houses which are lovely although according to 2 year old they're spider houses but he was excited to see them.

This place is huge, we had a wander round all the ponds, saw the beautiful bell tents and went down to the railway line.
It's a magical place and I brought home two very mucky, very happy, very tired kids.

Site feels very peaceful and safe, especially as no cars allowed by tents.

Although it's a bit of a walk up and down the hill with your camping kit, carts are provided and/or your stuff can be transported in back of a tractor, so it's not that much of an issue not parking next to your tent.

Owners were really welcoming, friendly and accommodating.

There are only 4 toilets (2 men, 2 women) but never had to queue and they were kept clean and well stocked of toilet roll.

Small shop on site has useful things for sale.

Communal fire pit. My son loved lighting a fire and keeping it going.

Kettle and fridge in hub were brilliant. Meant that our milk kept cold and could just make a hot drink without having to fire up the camp stove.

    Disliked:

    Nothing really.

Maybe a bit more light in the hub at night, as it was pretty dark in there, but you can just take a bright torch so it's not a massive issue.

From the manager...

Thank you for you lovely comments. It was lovely to meet you all. We will definitely look into more lighting in the hub as the nights draw in.
Looking forward to seeing you again soon 😀

What a wonderful little site! The ladies, Sharon and Jess are so friendly and helpful making sure the guests have everything they need. The areas for the kids to explore are a lovely little touch, our girls especially loved the fairy village. The facilities are basic but everything you need. The toilets were clean and well stocked with toilet roll (although we needed our own late at night), the showers had great power and hot water. I would say the only thing missing would be extra sinks in/around the toilet area as it did get a little crowded with people wanting to wash hands/brush teeth. The hub with a communal fridge/freezer, kettle as well as toys etc… for kids to play with was a great touch too. We only stayed for one night, but would definitely not hesitate to book again. Very reasonably priced too! Thank you for a great stay!
