Wellness Woodlands: Bell tent

General

  • Campsite next to the Severn Valley Railway in Shropshire countryside
  • A 25-minute drive to West Midlands Safari Park; Ironbridge 40 minutes
  • Playground, fairy village and nature pond on site; steam trains nearby

What a spot for vintage train lovers. Wellness Woodlands has a peaceful rural setting in Shropshire countryside near Bridgnorth, and a stay here offers all comers the chance to spy steam engines chugging past the camping field on the historic Severn Valley Railway.

Round and about on site – set over 20 acres so there are lots of walks to explore amid woodland planted with native trees – are four wildlife ponds as well as resident geese, chickens and ducks. You may also get lucky and see buzzards and red kites circling above, or woodpeckers among the trees.

Kids are welcomed with open arms here, and they can keep themselves entertained at the play area, find rope swings in the woods or head off to discover the themed fairy village. To keep you, your offspring and any dogs safe, no vehicles are allowed by the pitches.

This is an eco-friendly, off-grid campsite (note: off-grid equals no electricity), with no-frills amenities including separate showers and an outdoor sink for washing up.

If the weather turns, simply take cover at the HUB communal area. As far as catering goes, buy foodie supplies in Highley (five minutes’ drive) or dodge cooking altogether by eating in the pubs there. Back at base, buy fresh eggs for a breakfast fry-up or spread your bread with honey produced by the resident bees.

As this is a quiet site, portable sound systems are not permitted. Please be particularly considerate of others between 10pm and 6am.

Please note

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

If reception is closed on arrival: please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

The park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Breed-specific legislation (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

No cars/motorcycles at the site. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality flashlight with them as parts of the park are unlit.

Dogs are not allowed in the on-site accommodations.

No electric barbecues allowed.

My son and I stayed with friends at Wellness Woodlands for a couple of nights a few weeks ago.

I was looking for things for us to do in the surrounding area to keep the kids happy, but ended up staying on site the whole time.

There was so much to keep kids occupied there. So much so, I was able to have a pleasant relaxing day surrounded by nature while my son was off with his friends exploring this magnificent site.

It's perfect for kids. There's so much for them to explore and the owners have clearly thought out how to make the site as child friendly as possible. My son didn't want to leave!

I look forward to our next visit.

Really lovely site, although it was close to civilisation, it felt hidden away. There was plenty of space between pitches and the camp was quiet at night. A great space for kids to play and explore. The facilities were very clean and the staff were lovely. Loved the geese!

    Disliked:

Nothing major, but to improve the site could really do with an extra sink for teeth cleaning - there is only one in each gender's toilet block which could be problematic when busy. A covered washing up area would also be a bonus.

From the manager...

Thank you for your lovely comments and we agree with you. These are things we have definitely decided to work on.

Lovely location with 'magical' touches for the children to enjoy. It is coming on and looks to be constantly developing, and I have no doubt by next season will be absolutely stunning!
The tractor to help move camping bits to your itch is such a wonderful and appreciated touch!

    Disliked:

The toilet (2) and shower (1) facilities could be a bit cleaner. I certainly think as the campsite grows in popularity and more people are camping at any one time, the facilities will not be enough so I hope this is considered going forward.

From the manager...

Thank you for your lovely comments and look forward to seeing you again.

Lovely spacious site situated alongside Severn valley railway, great to watch steam trains go by. We stayed in the waters edge yurt, it had a sofa, comfy bed and cooking utensils, outside was a portaloo, firepit, chairs and a barbecue, the pitches were well spaced out so our dog could wander around freely without disturbing the neighbours, the owner sharon was very friendly and helpful, really enjoyed our stay and will hopefully return.

    Disliked:

Not a dislike but just a note to future visitors. it was on a hilly site so flat patches will be highly sought after when the camp site is busy. Plenty for us on our stay though.

From the manager...

Was lovely to meet you both. So glad little man enjoyed his first camping trip. That is as full as we will get the weekend you stayed . Looking forward to seeing you again soon 😀
