Adult only campsite

  • Adults-only campsite at a Shropshire inn on the edge of Bridgnorth
  • Severn Valley Railway five minutes’ drive; Ironbridge Gorge 25 minutes
  • Hardstanding pitches with electricity; pub food and real ale on site
When it’s time to sneak off for an adults-only Shropshire break, make a dash for the family-owned tourer pitches behind 16th-century Halfway House Inn on the outskirts of Bridgnorth, Shropshire. Suitable for most sizes of motorhome, this small caravan park has neatly landscaped pitches on hardstanding, all with electrical hook-ups and their own direct water supply (but none with a connection for toilet waste). With 14 courses under an hour’s drive and numerous fishing spots on the River Severn, Halfway House Inn makes a great base for keen golfers and anglers – and if you’re a real ale lover, all you need to do is nip into the pub for a pint of your favourite brew (the bar is open daily). If you’re intent on self-catering, you can rustle up barbecue suppers on site; although alternatively the pub serves tasty British classics from Thursday to Monday. Facilities-wise, the small on-site toilet block has separate facilities for men and women – all with bags of hot water in the showers – and the loos in the pub are open 24/7 during the main holiday months. There’s also a dedicated washing-up area so you can keep on top of the chores.

What customers say

A friendly, well-kept spot with a great pub and food. Lovely staff, ideal for dog walkers and Bridgnorth visits. Some noise from kennels & patchy Wi-Fi. Peaceful, good pitches, but could use a lick of paint.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Pitches can be a bit tight but we were very pleased with ours.
Hospitality of Kiki in the pub was very good. Very welcoming and chatty.
They were very welcoming to dogs on site and in the pub.
Good in the pub was good with excellent portion sizes.
Nothing was too much trouble for them.
Dog owners respected the need to keep their dogs on leads which isn’t always the case.
We very much enjoyed our stay and would visit again as it is ideally located for Bridgnorth and IronBridge and the surrounding area.
Some beautiful, peaceful walks

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Small independent and peaceful site, good spacing between pitches, heated and very clean toilet block( Unisex), Adults only, Dog friendly, WiFi available in the pub. Gorgeous pub with a small but very tasty menu and all home cooked food and good selection of drinks. Very friendly and approachable team especially Peter and KiKi.
Great location for touring around the local and surrounding area.

Disliked Lack of public transport, Dogs barking at 5.15am ( Kennels close to the site)not the sites fault and outwith their control and it’s the only time we heard the dogs during our stay.

From the manager: Thank you for your wonderful review, Joanne.

We’re so pleased you enjoyed your stay and appreciated the peaceful atmosphere, spacing between pitches, and the cleanliness of the facilities. It’s great to hear you enjoyed the pub as well — especially the home-cooked food and drinks — and your kind words about the team, myself and Kiki, really do mean a lot.

We’re also glad you found the location ideal for exploring the local area and that overall you had a relaxing stay with us.

Thank you for mentioning the early morning noise from the nearby kennels — as you said, it’s outside of our control, but we really appreciate you highlighting it in such a fair way. We will certainly pass your feedback on to the kennel owners.

We truly appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you back again soon.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Easy to find, just south of Bridgnorth. Nice walk from the site across fields (no cows) to Eardington. Great to have the pub on site, lovely open fire in there and good beers. Very quiet. Water tap and power right next to each pitch. Shower block was warm and clean. Plenty of hot water at the outdoor wash up point. Instructions for pitch number and access came through on email the day before visiting.

Disliked It was quite expensive for a relatively basic site - £40/night. This is more expensive than CAMC sites with better facilities. But I would still go back as I enjoyed the setting.

From the manager: Thank you for your detailed and honest review, Laura.

We’re really pleased to hear you enjoyed the peaceful setting, the walks around the local area, and the convenience of having the pub on site — especially the open fire and good beers! It’s also great to know you found the facilities clean, warm, and easy to use, and that everything from arrival instructions to pitch setup was straightforward.

We do appreciate your feedback regarding pricing. We always aim to offer a well-maintained, clean and convenient site alongside a welcoming pub experience, and we’re glad this still made your stay enjoyable overall. It’s lovely to hear that despite your comments on price, you would return and recommend us to others — that really means a lot.

We hope to welcome you back again soon for another relaxing stay.

From the manager: Hi Darren

Thank you for such a fantastic review — and for adding the photo of the cosy fire, it’s very much appreciated. There’s nothing better than a proper old-school pub with the fire roaring after a day out in the countryside.

We’re really pleased you found the campsite facilities spotless and enjoyed the electric grass and gravel pitch. Keeping the toilets and showers clean and warm, especially in February, is something we take seriously — so it’s great to hear that recognised.

It was a pleasure chatting with you both, and we’re delighted you’d recommend us and visit again. That means a lot to an independent business like ours.
We look forward to welcoming you back to The Halfway House Inn soon.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Nothing I cannot believe anyone can leave a good review for this place
No internet no tv signal

Disliked Everything

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Nick,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

We were genuinely very surprised to see a 1/10 score, especially as this is the first rating like this we have received from over 150 reviews on Pitchup.

Regarding the points you mentioned:

Internet / Wi-Fi – We don’t advertise Wi-Fi for the campsite itself. We do provide free Wi-Fi inside the pub, which guests are always welcome to use. As we are in a rural countryside location, extending reliable Wi-Fi across the touring park is technically very difficult. Openreach are starting to install super fast broadband FTTP to this area so hopefully we can get better WIFI for our customers - currently get 40/10 mbps.

TV signal – This is the first time a guest has reported an issue with TV reception. Many of our campers use TV aerials without any problems, so it may unfortunately have been an issue with equipment or positioning on the day.

We’re pleased you noted that the facilities were clean, as we work hard to keep the site tidy and welcoming for all guests.

With so many guests returning to us regularly and leaving very positive reviews, we do feel your experience is not representative of what most visitors experience here.

Kind regards,
Peter & The Halfway Team

Disliked Literally nothing not to like

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Steven,

What a fantastic review — thank you.

“To say one of the best campsites I’ve stayed on” is high praise indeed, especially from a seasoned solo traveller. We’re really pleased you enjoyed the compact layout, the warm and spotless facilities, and of course the cosy pub atmosphere.

It’s great to hear the food and ales hit the mark too — and I’ll make sure the team see your kind words about the friendliness. That’s something we genuinely pride ourselves on.

And “literally nothing not to like” is about as good as it gets — we’ll take that all day long.

Thank you again for staying with us and for taking the time to leave such a generous review. We hope to see you back here again soon.

Warm regards from Peter & The Team

Local attractions

Start your local explorations in Bridgnorth (five minutes’ drive) on the River Severn. This pretty town was once a busy port, and today has a timber-framed Town Hall dominating the lively market square, a Victorian funicular that joins upper and lower towns, and an 11th-century castle with a tower that has a bigger lean than anything Pisa can offer. Shropshire’s industrial heritage can be seen at Daniels Mill (five minutes), set in a wooded valley with its vast restored waterwheel; there are tours to see the milling process. The viaduct close by carries the steam-driven Severn Valley Railway, which you can join at the station on the outskirts of Bridgnorth (five minutes). Other heritage spots include the restored furnaces and pottery kilns at Ironbridge Gorge Museum (25 minutes), or the recreated streets, steam engines and period shops at the Black Country Living Museum (40 minutes). When all you want is to spend time in nature, there are several fisheries and golf courses within 20 minutes’ drive of the site. Alternatively, head for the Shropshire Hills National Landscape (20 minutes), where you can join Offa’s Dyke Path or climb to the Iron Age hillfort at the top of The Wrekin landmark hill.
