Brewers café bar

  • Peaceful, well-kept park with six lakes, walking trails and wildlife
  • A 15-minute drive to Lincoln; half an hour to the Lincolnshire Wolds
  • Café-bar, wifi, play area, takeaway food and fishing
Rural roams are firmly on the agenda at Hanworth Country Park, a serene site dotted with pretty paths and six lakes around 15 minutes’ drive from Lincoln. And angling’s on the cards too – four of the bodies of water here, stocked with mirror carp, common carp, chub, barbel, ide, perch, roach and tench, are open for fishing. There’s also a café-bar to order takeaway food and drink (with a handful of tables if you fancy eating in). Travelling with the tiddlers? Let them roam free in the play area. Animals are also often seen scampering around the park, especially around the lakes and woodland: think buzzards, red kites, woodpeckers and kestrels, as well as brown hares, squirrels, hedgehogs and deer. Attempt to catch a glimpse of these critters while roving along routes through the country park, either on foot or by bike; a favourite trails is the famed Lincolnshire Spires and Steeples path, which runs through the park and ends up at Lincoln Cathedral. Closer by is the village of Potterhanworth (10 minutes’ walk), a peaceful place with a handful of amenities including a large playing field with a play park, a skateboard park and tennis courts. A pub’s in the centre of the village – handy for evening drinks – and there’s a bus stop plying the Lincoln to Sleaford and Lincoln to Boston routes for explores via public transport. Surrounding villages such as Metheringham, Branston, Heighington and Washingborough are all within five miles and have conveniences like food shops, inn, takeaways, cafés, butchers and post offices.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked The site layout and facilities

Disliked Alarms went off in the early hours (01:15 and 06:45) and you can hear the trains running but nothing to drastic

The restaurant was really busy with local residents and getting served was an hour plus for Breakfast and Sunday lunch was again very busy, but that is a good thing for the Park owners (a tip, get in early) food was good.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Nice pitch size and plenty of green space to explore.

Disliked Too close to the train track, which at night, sounded like the freight trains were coming through the caravan.
Lack of bins.
The facilities weren't clean and the womens showers were unisex which wasn't nice.
Had to pay for WiFi which we didn't realise until we were there!

Camping pod (comfort, pet friendly, double)

Liked The site and accommodation were both lovely. The cleaning team were very friendly and chatty. Facilities where close to the pods we were staying in. I liked that the pods were set off the main site in the woods which made it feel cosy and more private. Pods clean and well equipped with everything we needed for a short stay. Fishing sites were good and well stocked

Disliked Maps appeared to be a little out of date. Recycling was very full.
Wasn't clear on confirmation email that wild swimming and water boarding was available so missed out on this as was fullu booked when arrived

Electric hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked Cleanliness. Friendliness. Peacefulness. Big pitches. Nice facilities.

Disliked In the welcome pack is a map and I think the elsan point and where the rubbish bins are should be clearly marked on it. I only realised where the bins were on my way out.
I took the bus into Lincoln and was told they would stop at the top…..I had to run for the bus in as it only just stopped after I waved madly at it. The bus back, went straight past even though I asked him to stop and I had to walk from the village. So be aware it’s not a proper stop!

Local attractions

Pootling around on public transport? The nearest train station is in Metheringham (five minutes’ drive) for catching a ride to places including Peterborough, Sleaford and Doncaster. Lincoln (15 minutes) has a larger station with access to more destinations, but it’s worth lingering in this lovely city for a little while before fleeing further afield. Don’t miss the castle and cathedral or the shops and eateries in the cobblestoned Bailgate area. Keen to blend a few historically minded expeditions into your stay? Learn all about the Second World War at the International Bomber Command Centre (10 minutes), a memorial and interpretation complex dedicated to the RAF force that helped bring D-Day about.
