  • Peaceful, well-kept park with six lakes, walking trails and wildlife
  • A 15-minute drive to Lincoln; half an hour to the Lincolnshire Wolds
  • Café-bar, wifi, play area, takeaway food and fishing
Rural roams are firmly on the agenda at Hanworth Country Park, a serene site dotted with pretty paths and six lakes around 15 minutes’ drive from Lincoln. And angling’s on the cards too – four of the bodies of water here, stocked with mirror carp, common carp, chub, barbel, ide, perch, roach and tench, are open for fishing. There’s also a café-bar to order takeaway food and drink (with a handful of tables if you fancy eating in). Travelling with the tiddlers? Let them roam free in the play area. Animals are also often seen scampering around the park, especially around the lakes and woodland: think buzzards, red kites, woodpeckers and kestrels, as well as brown hares, squirrels, hedgehogs and deer. Attempt to catch a glimpse of these critters while roving along routes through the country park, either on foot or by bike; a favourite trails is the famed Lincolnshire Spires and Steeples path, which runs through the park and ends up at Lincoln Cathedral. Closer by is the village of Potterhanworth (10 minutes’ walk), a peaceful place with a handful of amenities including a large playing field with a play park, a skateboard park and tennis courts. A pub’s in the centre of the village – handy for evening drinks – and there’s a bus stop plying the Lincoln to Sleaford and Lincoln to Boston routes for explores via public transport. Surrounding villages such as Metheringham, Branston, Heighington and Washingborough are all within five miles and have conveniences like food shops, inn, takeaways, cafés, butchers and post offices.

Camping pod (basic, pet friendly, double)

Liked Really lovely site. We stayed in a pod overlooking a pond. Beautiful view and still nicely nestled in the trees. Really great to have outdoor seating and a place to BBQ or have an evening fire. Having a fridge was also great as we were there during a heatwave. The restaurant bar onsite was also very handy and the showers were hot!

Disliked Sadly the pod hadn’t been cleaned before we got there. The coffee mugs were used, inside wasn’t swept, the bin full, beer glasses from the bar left on the porch and bit of rubbish left around the side of the pod. I think this was a one off oversight and although not good, also not the end of the world to us.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Normally our go to mini break, we normally enjoy the serenity and pitches are a good standard

Disliked Arrived to our pitch and was greeted with a poignant smell, soon discovered this was the blocked grey water drain on our pitch! Eventually found the phone number (not in welcome pack?) the maintenance operative responded quite quickly, it was fat that had been poured down by the previous occupants.

Things were great until one evening when all hell broke loose with a family fighting and shouting abuse at each other , this continued for quite a while and required a phone call which was answered by the bar?
A while later the police arrived with a young member from the restaurant, the commotion had ceased at this point.

Our main concerns now after visiting the site 14 times is do we feel in a safe environment anymore? There are no staff to monitor the site after 5pm, something that probably should be addressed, and not left to the young restaurant staff.
We don’t normally leave bad reviews, but felt this needs addressing.

May try the site again, but will certainly look at others.

Ps please give the young lady that visited us from the restaurant, and took a statement, a pat on the back for having to deal with the situation.

Local attractions

Pootling around on public transport? The nearest train station is in Metheringham (five minutes’ drive) for catching a ride to places including Peterborough, Sleaford and Doncaster. Lincoln (15 minutes) has a larger station with access to more destinations, but it’s worth lingering in this lovely city for a little while before fleeing further afield. Don’t miss the castle and cathedral or the shops and eateries in the cobblestoned Bailgate area. Keen to blend a few historically minded expeditions into your stay? Learn all about the Second World War at the International Bomber Command Centre (10 minutes), a memorial and interpretation complex dedicated to the RAF force that helped bring D-Day about.
