  • Adults-only park a couple of minutes' drive from the M5
  • Use as an overnight stopover or as a base for Cheltenham or Gloucester
  • Landscaped with mature shrubs, hedges and trees
Apart from a possible pitch on a tower block in the middle of a city, Briarfields Touring Park might be the most ‘leave your car at home’ site we’ve seen yet. Ditch the diesel guzzler or leave the motorhome on site and hitch a ride on one of the regular buses that pass right outside, leading to days’ worth of days out at Cheltenham (two miles away), Gloucester (six miles), Oxford, the Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds. And if you’re getting around under your own steam, the friendly family team at Briarfields can pick you up from local public transport when you arrive. Even on your own feet you’ll reach most of what you need quickly from the park: a pub and a newsagent are within a few minutes’ walk; an Indian restaurant, KFC and supermarket less than 15 minutes – and a caravan sales and spares dealership is a mile and a half away, just in case. Although Briarfields is only a couple of minutes from the M5 (it’s often used by guests on their way north or south as an overnight stopover), it’s been rather cleverly designed so you can think you’re slap bang in the middle of the countryside: the landscaped and the accommodation areas are edged throughout with mature shrubs, hedges and trees. Amenities are equally well looked after: the centrally placed amenities block is cleaned twice a day and has free hot showers for ladies, gents and disabled guests. Swing into reception when you arrive at Briarfields for reams of info, leaflets and maps on the many (many) things to do a bus ride away: buses run every ten minutes during the day and every 20 minutes in the evening to both Cheltenham and Gloucester, and another service to Oxford will give explorers about six hours in the city before heading back to Cheltenham. Briarfields is open all year round and is dog-friendly.

What customers say

A lovely adults-only spot, lauded for spotless facilities, brilliant staff & easy bus trips to Cheltenham/Gloucester. Spacious, level pitches with good privacy. A bit of road/plane noise from the M5/airport, but most found it fine. Great for stopovers or longer stays.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Absolutely excellent site , immaculate everywhere, friendly staff , great to find motorhome service point for grey water etc, well placed for Cheltenham and Gloucester, another plus was the dog exercise area and facilities were top notch

Disliked Very noisy site being very close to A40 and Gloucester Rd and the airfield ,with mainly prop planes taking off every few minutes during the day , we also now realise it’s near Gloucester Hospital so blue light ambulances were constantly flying past so not the place for a peaceful holiday , but as long as you can cope with above gives you good access to the Cotswolds villages and attractions

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Very nice site, clean, quiet and friendly staff. Loved the animal sculptures dotted around. Handy for Cheltenham and the surround countryside. Disabled facilities were excellent

Disliked Gravel on the edges of pitches meant my wheelchair got stuck. Expanding the concrete pitch to the path would solve this. Poor wifi on pitch

From the manager: Dear Kim,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re really pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay, found the site clean and quiet, and that our team and facilities helped make your visit comfortable. It’s also lovely to know you liked the wicker sculptures!

We really appreciate your constructive comments regarding the gravel and wifi. Your feedback is valuable, and we’ll certainly take it into consideration as we continue to make improvements to the park.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Briarfields was our first campsite stay after getting our first caravan and it was brilliant. The check in was easy with a detailed map showing our pitch and lots of other useful information. The pitches and the site were clean with lots of bins and recycling areas. The showers and toilets are in the middle of the site so easily accessible wherever you stay. They are very clean and there is lots of space. We don’t have a dog, but there is a secure dog field which is a brilliant idea. We will definitely be returning

Disliked Downside, the WiFi kept dipping out so kept losing the signal on the tv when using the apps.

From the manager: Dear Deborah,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful review of your stay with us. We’re delighted that Briarfields was your very first stop with your new caravan!

It’s wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the easy check-in, clean facilities, and the dog field (even without a pup of your own). We’ll certainly pass along your compliments to our team.

I’m sorry to hear the Wi-Fi gave you a bit of trouble. We’re actively working on improving the signal around the site and appreciate you mentioning it so we can keep making things better.

We’d love to welcome you back anytime.

Warm Regards,
The Briarfields Team

Lovely welcoming feel, staff really friendly and helpful. The toilet and shower facilities extremely clean and warm as were the laundry facilities which were also reasonably priced and efficient.
The overall site is stunning with lovely touches everywhere and a great dog walking area. It's well located with plenty of information to support your stay. We can't wait to go again, thank you!

Disliked Nothing!

The Beeches fully-serviced grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked Wow what a park. Friendly reception. Adult only site with plenty of room for me to park up and set up. Amazing facilities a short walk away from my allocated plot and so clean. Easy access to local areas. I really couldn’t believe my luck staying at this park

Disliked Park is near a motorway and on occasion can be heard but you soon zone out and don’t notice.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Friendly wardens and a lovely site. Toilet and shower facilities were clean and well maintained. Excellent for going into Cheltenham and Gloucester as the bus stops are right at the entrance and across the road. There is an Asda a few minutes away. Received an informative email a few days before we arrived which we found useful. Will definitely be back for another visit.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Beautifully maintained: pitches private with hedging though some were alittle small. toilet/ shower facilities spotlessly clean.
Good to have an enclosed dog field.
Wardens very friendly/ helpful.

Disliked Road noise: although we were expecting some road noise it was more than I thought it would be.
Also , some cars( including with caravans hooked up) tended to drive to fast especially along to top part of the site where we were pitched. Maybe the speed limit should be lowered .

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Dear Julia,

Thank you for your thoughtful review and for choosing to stay with us. We’re delighted you enjoyed the well-kept pitches, spotless facilities, and our enclosed dog field, and we’ll pass your kind words on to the wardens - they’ll be so pleased to hear them.

We appreciate your feedback about road noise and vehicle speed. We’ll certainly look to add additional signage to help keep everyone safe and comfortable.

It’s wonderful to know you’d recommend us and visit again and we look forward to welcoming you back for another relaxing stay.

Local attractions

Well. Where do we start? At least a day in Cheltenham first, we think – more if you’re coming to have a flutter at the racecourse just four miles away or jazzing it up at one of the many festivals. Catch the bus early to take in as much as poss: a morning coveting the art, furniture, crafts and jewellery at Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum, many created by Cotswold craftspeople inspired by William Morris, should build up an appetite for lunch and an afternoon of shopping around The Brewery, Bath Road and in the well-lined High Street. Harry Potter fans and the history-inclined will likely want an hour or two at medieval Gloucester Cathedral, used in the first and second films (see if you recognise the Cloisters). Away from Hogwarts, the cathedral has an award-winning exhibition centre, exhibitions and guided tours, and regular events and concerts including The Three Choirs Festival, one of the oldest classical choral music festivals in the world. The Gloucester Docks and award-winning Waterways Museum is also a good afternoon out for heritage fans, while the more modern can find plenty to occupy them at the waterside retail park Gloucester Quays. Plunge into the countryside next for a couple of days in the Cotswolds, where you’ll find acres of things to do whatever your inclination such as punting around local villages like Chipping Camden and Bourton-on-the-Water, or visiting the many museums ranging from Roman to motoring times. Wildlife options abound too, particularly for birders, with the Cotswold Falconry Centre at the Batsford Arboretum, geese and swans at Slimbridge Wetland Centre, and Birdland Park and Gardens in Bourton-on-the-Water where twitchers can see rare birds from around the world, including England’s only group of king penguins. Finally, take a day or two in the ancient Forest of Dean (Harry Potter and co ended up here too), one of the oldest woodlands in the country, to go underground at the old mines of the Clearwell Caves, hire a bike to hit the forest tracks, or, more relaxingly, take the four and a half mile trip from Lydney to Parkend on the Dean Forest Railway.
