  • Dog-friendly site just outside the Peak District National Park
  • A 15-minute drive from Chatsworth House, White Edge and Bakewell
  • Within 10 minutes' drive of places to eat in Baslow and Calver
Plotting lots of activities in the Peak District National Park? With Clover Meadow Camping as your base, you’re in prime territory: just outside of the national park, this Derbyshire site is a five-minute drive from the nearest peak, Curbar Edge, and within 15 minutes of Chatsworth House and Bakewell. This dog-friendly site is surrounded by gorgeous green countryside with a small pond. There are composting toilets, showers, a washing-up area and ice pack freezing facilities on site – just the essentials to help your break go nice and smoothly. If you’d like to grab something to eat or go shopping, make your way to the pretty villages of Baslow or Calver, which are both within a 10-minute drive of the site. However, if walking or cycling is the first thing on your mind, it's useful to know that the site is just a five-minute drive from the Linacre Reservoirs and 15 minutes from either White Edge or the Longshaw Estate Mam Tor, another popular spot for hikers, is 40 minutes away – perhaps make a stop in Bakewell first to wrap up some of its famed Bakewell pudding for a mid-hike snack.

1 bedroom bell tent

Liked Bell tent set-up was great, super beds and bedding, nice touch welcome with handmade treats, Kath super friendly and available whenever needed. Shower was probably best we’ve had anywhere camping - clean, hot. We really enjoyed the whole weekend!

Disliked It’s the great outdoors so take some midge repellant or citronella - they’re not around all the time but when they’re there they’re there! Toilets are a long drop so get ready to hold your nose!

Liked Bell tent was fabulous, lovely touch of eye masks, ear plugs, little bears for the children and cakes on arrival! Showers were fantastic and warm. Owner was very friendly and accommodating.

Disliked The toilets but great for long drop toilets! No access to drinking water.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The quirky showers; hot and great pressure - although they won't last long due to the wooden board (it needs some plastic or something to protect it)

The location.

Great interaction with the owner.

The size of the pitch is great and the field is level for perfect pitching.

The padlocked entrance is good.

Clean facilities.

Disliked Please don't view the following as huge criticisms of your site, because they are not intended for that purpose. This site has great potential. We know the site is undergoing planning permission, the points below are really easy fixes... we wish you well in the future of Clover Meadow Campsite.

The grass is ridiculously long (when driving across the field the caution light and beeper was activated in the car to tell us we were in danger of a collision!) - this is also a breeding ground for midges (of which there were loads!) - If the owners mowed some drive tracks for customers and pitches this would make the experience so much better.

No washing up area (even though this is listed as an amenity on pitchup) - a simple fix would be to install a couple of stainless steel sinks and a plastic roof the same as the shower blocks to link the toilets and showers with hot water (hooked up the same as the showers) and some quality warm white solar lights would really improve that area.

Nowhere to wash your hands after using the toilets - the sink attached to the shower blocks only has cold water and needs warm water instead to be a hand wash area (owners provide hand sanitiser)

The charge for dogs seems a bit excessive, no amenities for dogs provided e.g. doggy shower or separate dog/exercise area.

Could not find the freezer area for the freezing ice packs either (as stated on pitchup)

The farmer on the adjacent field turned over the compost and soil right next to the camping field which added to the number of midges being hatched. Nothing that the campsite could do about this, but worth noting for anyone going to the campsite to not pitch near the two dry stone walls which is where the farmer stores his compost and manure.

1 bedroom bell tent

Liked This was a surprise glamping trip for our boys, due to my recent back injury we were unable to use our own tent (season campers). On opening the tent it was beautifully presented and clean, beds are super comfy, smelled devine and loved the extra little touches - small bear for the kids waiting on there beds, water and amazing home made cake. Showers were hot and toilets were kept clean. Kathy is a lovely welcoming host, nothing is to much trouble!! Nice seating area outside to watch the stars at night, great field for the kids to let off steam. Location was very central with many attractions within a 15/20 minute drive. If your wanting total off grid camping experience this is the place to go. We look forward to coming back next season. Wish you all the best with your future plans.

Disliked (These are not dislikes more of a recommendation as we know this is a new site and awaiting further planning) super great eco friendly site..could do with a larger area with hot water & sinks to wash pots and pans and maybe a few solor lights around the toilet and shower areas for night time.

1 bedroom bell tent

Liked Such a beautiful tent, it smelled like a spa, and was pristine inside. The beds were so comfy and the finishing touches like lamps and drinking water and cake felt so welcoming. The owner is so lovely and would do anything to help.
We arrived mid week so it was very quiet on site and had a lovely open view of countryside. The facilities were basic but clean and well kept.
Yes it's by a main road but it was relatively quiet through the night (and earplugs were provided just incase)
Thank you so much for having us!!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked This is a lovely campsite. It was beautifully quiet when we stayed. Lots of room for my little one to run around. Nice flat field to pitch in. As advertised it is by a two way rural road, so there was a short time in the evening when traffic was going past regularly, but very quiet after that. Not even any annoying night motorbikes in the distance!
The quiet was perfect for hearing the birds in the evening and the bowls at night.
A stunning sunset, friendly host and very clean facilities. A fantastic place to stay.

Disliked Leaving!!!!!

1 bedroom bell tent

Liked The tent was gorgeous but the location for the glamping tents is not good.

Disliked The noise from the road is awful. The tent is positioned next to a very busy road and heavy goods vehicles drive past all night. The bell tent shakes and is lit up by headlights.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: I’m so sorry the camping life isn’t for you.
As it’s the start of harvest time there are tractors and combines using the road to access their fields during the day as we’re in a rural farming area.
The road is not very busy but as there is no other noise when a car occasionally passes during the night if you are a very light sleeper you may briefly hear it.
Unfortunately tents are not sound proof, nor pitch black.
We have taken on board your comments and have provided earplugs in all tents for light sleepers just in case there’s wind, a disgruntled owl, loud rabbit or the occasional car passing.
