  • Family-run campsite on a dairy farm in the Peak District National Park
  • Access to Lathkill Dale directly from the site
  • Woodfired pizzas and ice cream sold on site
When you’re keen to get out exploring the Derbyshire Dales, you can’t get much closer to them than Haddon Grove Farm Campsite. This welcoming, family-run caravan and camping site has direct access to spectacular Lathkill Dale from the pitches. Located on a dog-friendly working dairy farm – you are welcome to meet the cows, horses and chickens – with views to the hills and dales of the Peak District National Park, the site was established in the early 1950s and has gone from strength to strength ever since. There are separate fields for family use – with play areas and rope swings – and others for group bookings, ensuring nobody gets disturbed on site. Facilities run to a shower block and wash room, and as barbecues are allowed by the pitches in the camping fields (source any foodie bits in the pretty town of Bakewell, 10 minutes’ drive), firepits can be hired on site. Logs are sold from the small on-site shop, which – more importantly for the kids – also stocks tasty ice cream from a local farm. The site also sells woodfired pizzas, which should be handy if you fancy eating something more substantial.

What customers say

Large family site on a working farm with great Peak District views and Lathkill Dale access. Praised for spacious pitches, friendly owners, clean facilities, and food vans. Some noted distance to loos and noise, but highly recommended for relaxation and value.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The hosts were super friendly and helpful. Amenities were clean and plenty, and the onsite food vans were an added bonus. We hired a fire pit that the kids thought was amazing!
The kids loved the rope swings, and open spaces.

Disliked A bench or shelf in the showers spaces to put things on and keep dry, like a toiletries bag, would be handy for things that can’t hang on hooks.

Liked Great toilet and shower facilities. We went mid week after the bank holiday and the site was very quiet. Would definitely stay again.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked I really enjoyed my stay at Haddon Grove Farm, the owners were very friendly and helpful. The toilets and shower facilities were kept nice and clean too. The location was ideal for exploring the Peak District, with most things being within half an hour away.

Disliked Not any fault of the campsite, just a side note that it's very hard to get phone signal and internet with Vodafone. This made it a bit tricky to plan outings if I wanted to change plans.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked This site has great facilities, really clean and in working order. The fields are a perfect sunset spot, loads of space to choose from! Ideally located so we had many day trips that weren’t too far to go and the town of Bakewell is only a few mins down the road for any last minute supermarket trips. The hosts are incredibly warm and kind people, keep doing what you’re doing guys, you’ve got it spot on! Thank you for a lovely stay!

Disliked Nothing!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked So much space to choose a pitch from and the whole site was very well kept. This is including all the toilets and showers, which there were plenty of. Conveniently close to Bakewell, Buxton and a couple of other villages, and there's an Aldi 10mins up the road. Also directly on Lathkill dale so the views on the site are stunning and you can go walking straight from your tent. Would definitely recommend and stay again if I'm back in the Peaks, although I'd stay over the weekend so we could try the pizzas!

Disliked Shop was closed most of the time we were there, although there was the option to call the staff to come and open it. Also didn't get a chance to see any of the food vendors as all were only open on the weekends.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked This is an absolutely wonderful site.
The toilet and shower blocks are spacious, clean and absolutely top notch.
Fantastic views and plenty of choice of pitches. You will almost certainly need wheel wedges to level your caravan though.
Loved being able to use a firepit and the £10 rental was WELL worth the money.
This site is central to lots of different sites that we wanted to visit. An excellent basecamp.
No wifi, but we got excellent phone reception so this wasn't a problem.
I really can't think of anything negative to say. Everyone we spoke to was happy and helpfully.
10/10.

Electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Great campsite, very clean toilets and shower block, a few animals to look at, rope swings, catering vans (although the days we booked these done open) little shop which stocks essentials. The young lad running it was very friendly and accommodating.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The site was in a beautiful location, great base for days out.
Big campsite which provided you with privacy even when busy
Very clean
Friendly staff

Disliked Not that I didn’t like but could do with a few more toilets and showers given the size of the site.
Water pressure bit of an issue

Local attractions

Scenic walks are to be had along the namesake river in Lathkill Dale, where you can stride out towards Lathkill Head Cave (an hour and 20 minutes’ walk) or marvel at the clear springs at The Blue Waters near the peaceful village of Over Haddon (35 minutes). For a slightly longer ramble, Arbor Low Stone Circle and Gib Hill Barrow (90 minutes) reward with prehistoric monuments and ancient burial mounds. Combine your stroll around the verdant grounds at Chatsworth House with a guided tour of the mansion’s ornate rooms packed with priceless antiques, or take in the Elizabethan Walled Gardens at Haddon Hall (both 20 minutes’ drive) after you’ve admired the tapestry collection and medieval chapel. For an insight into Peak District heritage, visit the bijou Eyam Museum (also 20 minutes) in the famed ‘plague village’ to learn the story of the Bubonic Plague of 1346–52, or have a wander around the deserted remains of Magpie Mine (five minutes’ drive), which was the last working lead mine in Derbyshire and closed in 1958.
