Campsite owners should benefit from staycation surge

More good news for campsite and caravan owners who have seen takings down this summer – new figures suggest a holiday boom in the UK for the rest of the year.

Site owners have already been cheered up this week with the warm weather after a washout start to the British summer, and are now hoping they’ll be among the main beneficiaries of the surge in planned holidays in the UK.

This was prompted by the publication of research by VisitEngland, which shows that over ten million people in Britain are planning at least one short break or holiday in the UK this year. Almost nine million of these say they plan to visit England specifically.

VisitEngland estimates this will bring in around £2.3 billion in tourism spend, with £1.9 billion of that to be spent in England.

VisitEngland chief executive James Berresford said: ‘I'm delighted to see that over ten million people are planning to holiday at home this summer.

‘The trend for last minute bookings is strong; this coupled with the recent return of sunshine to our shores could provide the industry with a welcome boost.’
