  • Small family-friendly site on the eastern shore of Lake Annecy
  • At the foot of Mont Veyrier; a 10-minute drive from Annecy
  • Direct access to a beach on the lake; cycle hire available on site
Walks in the forest, climbing the mountains and paddling across the lake… with a location between Lake Annecy and the mountains, Camping Annecy-Veyrier-du-Lac is a base for it all. This small, quiet and family-friendly site is on the eastern shore of Lake Annecy and has direct access to the beach, so watersports and other watery activities are most definitely on the cards. The village of Veyrier-du-Lac is also at the foot of Mont Veyrier, giving you options for more time outdoors, whether it be hiking, mountain biking, cycling or climbing. Helpfully, the site rents out bikes so that you don’t have to waste any time sourcing your own pair of wheels. Annecy itself is only a 10-minute drive from Camping Annecy-Veyrier-du-Lac, so those wanting to spend time in the alpine old town, strolling along the canal or visiting the medieval castle will also have an advantageous base. Hikers, gather around too, as the site has good access to the Grande Traversée des Alpes, a long-distance hiking trail through the French Alps. In terms of facilities, the site has showers and toilets available, as well as a launderette. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance of the site (including waterfront spots just a few minutes’ walk away) and there’s a family pub 10 minutes’ walk away too. As for picking up supplies, take a stroll to the shop that’s just 200 metres further along the same road as the pub.

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Nice clean facilities, private gate to the lake, a restaurant and a couple of bars very close by.

Disliked: One of the bars plays music, even though the site doesn’t allow campers to, the other bar has a very loud fan, not sure how long it was on as I wore earplugs. The fact you cannot use bbq’s, no facilities to fill or empty the motorhome tanks or chemical toilet.

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Convenient for Annecy town but apart from that little to commend it

Disliked: Very difficult to find and enter. A rather scruffy site. There were notices everywhere telling you what you couldn't do but no information about where to get water or put rubbish. The manageress was unhelpful and we only saw the manager on the day we arrived. The site is next to a nightclub and the noise continued until 6am. In conclusion we couldn't wait to get away and will avoid this sitewhen we next visit Annecy.

Power optional grass tent campsite

Liked: Quiet campsite with good facilities, but the real joy of this site is that it is only a few metres from the side of Lake Annecy - bathing, beach, restaurants and cafes. Awesome. Don't waste your time looking for alternatives. Just book this!

Disliked: Nothing

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: - good location, great base for exploring Annecy, only about 25 min cycle into Annecy town. - beautiful scenery around the site. - toilets and showers very clean. - direct access to good beach.

Disliked: - no washing lines allowed! You had to borrow a small fold-out airer. - couldn’t arrive at the site until 4pm. - campsite has no bins so had to walk with your rubbish to the closest public bins. - restaurant nearby plays loud music until late, would likely be an issue if you were in a tent.

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: We all loved this campsite. Small but had everything we needed. Right on the lake with a lovely public beach (Plage de La Brune) next door which had a great jetty where you could dive and jump into the lake. Two great restaurants next door to the campsite (Le Pecleur and Le chalet) - we tried both and had two great meals. We also hired a pedalo from the small watersports centre just in front of the campsite, you could also hire paddle boards and boats. Site is about a 10 minute walk from the village (Veyrier du lac) which has a great bakery and small but well stocked supermarket.

Power optional grass tent campsite

Liked: Location right by the lake. Fridge and microwave available. Sunny and shady pitches. Walkable access to Annecy. Helpful staff when we arrived after reception closure. Local shops and takeaway pizza.

Disliked: Showers were fine but the toilets, while usually clean, would benefit from better drainage.

Local attractions

As well as swimming in Lake Annecy and climbing, hiking and cycling in alpine foothills, you can up the adrenaline stakes on tandem paragliding and hang gliding jaunts over mountain peaks from Talloires (10 minutes' drive). If you prefer a quieter life, there’s miniature golf in Annecy’s Parc Charles Bosson (also 10 minutes). And of course Annecy (10 minutes) itself is a delightful town with a buzzing shopping scene and a medieval old town lining the Thiou River; have a poke around the cells in the triangular Palais de I'Île (once a prison), and pop into the heritage museum at the hilltop castle. There are lake views from the waterside Jardins de l’Europe, and you can jump on cruises at the Quai de la Tournette. Fancy exploring in a different country? Geneva (45 minutes) is the elegant capital city of Switzerland, with a backdrop of the Alps and famous for the massive Jet d’Eau fountain on Lac Leman. Here, you can tour the Palais des Nations, pop into galleries in the boho Quartiers des Bains and enjoy fondue lunches in traditional auberges in the old town.
