  • Peaceful family-friendly Llŷn Peninsula site with great sea views
  • Two beaches within 15 minutes' walk, and access to Wales Coast Path
  • Bikes and paddleboards for hire onsite; kids and dogs welcome
If you’re looking at the Llŷn Peninsula as a location for a peaceful break, you’ll certainly want to check out Bryn Bach Caravan and Camping Site. This well-kept and friendly site sits at the far end of the peninsula, making it a setting that’s got plenty of peace and quiet to offer. And it’s also got some rather wonderful views – the pitches here look out over Abersoch Bay to the peaks of Eryri (Snowdonia) beyond. You won’t be limited to looking at the sea from afar though, because it’s just a 15-minute walk to either the southern end of Abersoch’s sheltered main beach or the surfing waves of Porth Ceiriad. Beyond both of those there are plenty more lovely beach areas within a short drive, including the three-mile Porth Neigwl (also known as Hell’s Mouth and popular with surfers) and the ‘Whistling Sands’ of Porthor. The site is just off the Wales Coast Path too, so you may like to take a walk and see if you can spot any of the seals and dolphins that live along the coastline. Want to explore in a different way? There are bikes and paddleboards for hire at the site shop. There’s plenty more in that shop, too – it’s always well stocked, and it has a licence to sell alcohol as well. Among the other facilities on site are a launderette, a washing-up area, a communal freezer, a wifi service and a couple of bathroom blocks. There’s also a sand-covered play area with swings, a slide and a climbing frame to keep the kids busy for a while.

What customers say

Lovely views and quiet! Owners are super friendly & helpful. Sites usually clean, great for beach/walks. Pitches can be uneven, showers busy in peak times. A few noted bin placement & shower temps could be better.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked Lovely site and friendly staff

Disliked We booked a non electric pitch not realising we would be in the tent field. Ended to manoeuvre down a very narrow hedged avenue to access this area. It was just wide enough to fit.

Liked Nothing. The location was the only positive, but the terrible experience ruined ever

Disliked We were completely scammed by this site. When we arrived, they assigned us a terrible, unsuitable plot that looked nothing like the pictures we booked on Pitchup. When we complained that this was not the location shown in the listing, we were bluntly told that the advertised area was fully booked, so they just crammed us into this useless spot! If there was no availability in the proper area, they should have been honest at the time of booking instead of taking our money and dumping us in an awful space. The pitch itself was totally unfit for camping. To make matters worse, the facilities were appalling—the showers were virtually unusable, and the toilets were so cramped and poorly maintained that using them was a struggle. On top of that, there wasn't a single bin near the pitches, forcing us to walk a huge distance just to dispose of our rubbish. The site manager/owner is extremely irresponsible, dishonest, and lacks basic respect for paying customers. Do not be fooled by the pictures on Pitchup like we were! This ruined our stay, and we are demanding a full refund.

Liked Nice relaxed campsite, large pitch with great views of Abersoch. Loads of hot water for showers and washing up.

Disliked The smaller loo block in the camping field was in need of a bit of attention.

Powered grass tent or RV campsite

Liked The grounds where lovely, showers and ammentities always kept clean

Disliked Unfortunately, our experience with the site manager was disappointing, particularly due to his manner and the patronising tone he used when dealing with both us and our neighbours.

Our neighbours received two warnings about noise, despite their tent being less than five yards from ours. We were in a position to clearly hear what was happening, and at no point did we hear them being excessively loud or playing loud music. In my opinion, they did absolutely nothing wrong. What was particularly disappointing was the way the site manager spoke to them. His manner was extremely patronising, and he spoke to them as though they were children rather than paying customers. It was this manner and tone, rather than simply being spoken to about a site rule, that made them feel uncomfortable enough to leave the site early.

We were also told that the site manager had spoken to other tents about noise, although our neighbours said that this had not happened.

On another occasion, the site manager barged in front of me while I was walking into the top-site showers. He also told my son off twice for riding his electric bike, despite him using it on the slow setting. We noticed several other children riding electric bikes at considerably higher speeds without being spoken to, which made the situation feel inconsistent and unfair.

During the second half of our stay, we had new neighbours whose dog displayed very aggressive behaviour and unfortunately bit my husband on the leg. This was understandably concerning and further affected our overall experience.

Overall, while we completely understand that site rules need to be enforced and that staff have a responsibility to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment, we felt that the way certain situations were handled was unnecessarily confrontational and inconsistent. In particular, the site manager’s manner and patronising tone had a negative impact on our stay and, in our view, directly contributed to our neighbours deciding to leave early. We would strongly encourage management to consider how concerns are communicated to guests, as people can be reminded of the rules without being made to feel belittled or spoken down to.

Local attractions

There’s almost too much choice around here when it comes to excellent beaches, but you may like to check out top spots like Abersoch (five minutes’ drive), with its watersports and sea-view golf course, or take your surfboard to the reliable waves at three-mile-long Porth Neigwl (Hell’s Mouth) (10 minutes). A walk on the ‘Whistling Sands’ at Porthor beach is a must – as is a pint with your toes in the sand at Porthdinllaen’sTŷ Coch Inn. Both are half an hour’s drive away. Meanwhile, there are boat trips to Bardsey Island from Porth Meudwy (35 minutes) or you can take a walk to Y Dyn Haearn (Tin Man), a sculpture looking out to sea at Llanbedrog (15 minutes). Something a bit different? See modern art in a Gothic mansion at Plas Glyn y Weddw Gallery (15 minutes), meet cute animals – not just rabbits – at Rabbit Farm (half an hour) or step back into the past at Criccieth Castle (35 minutes). There are also lots of indoor and outdoor activities at Glasfryn Parc (half an hour).
