  • Scenic adults-only dog-friendly site in Dartmoor National Park
  • Haven for hikers and bikers, 20 minutes from Exeter city centre
  • On-site shop, information centre and secure off-lead dog area
Escape from messy desks, busy inboxes and fume-filled commutes with a peaceful fresh-air stay among grownups only at Barley Meadow Touring Park, a dog-friendly site under five minutes’ drive from the Devon village of Crockernwell. As it's in Dartmoor National Park, this is a top spot for hikers and bikers with a yen for exploring far-off places: the 117-mile Two Moors Way (which stretches from Ivybridge to Lynmouth) passes 10 minutes’ walk from the site, and National Cycle Route 27 and the Granite Way walking trail can be joined 15 minutes’ drive away in Okehampton. Closer to home, you can stroll next door to the farm shop to select goodies for your dinner. There’s plenty more to investigate around splendid Dartmoor, but of course… but not before kicking back for a bit on site… Stock up on snacks in the on-site shop (open subject to demand) while letting canine chums run off-leash in the dog area, or plan outings and pick up ideas for local walks, activities and visits in the little information centre. All sound a bit too rural? Never fear, as the site’s central and easy to reach: it’s just off the A30, and there’s a bus stop right outside the site entrance for trips to Exeter and Bude. Eco-friendly drivers can charge their electric vehicles using the EV point on site too.

Power optional grass campsite (maximum 6 metres)

Liked: Extremely well maintained and clean. Brilliantly located for north Dartmoor. Bus route into Exeter and oakhampton right outside. Brilliant showers. The Bothy (little games room with phone charging safe, freezer, games, free pool table, book sharing was a wonderful facility. Really
Great value for money. Farm shop accessible via a path from the site. Lovely area and friendly staff. Liked being able to upgrade to a hook up on an ad hoc basis. Free Wi-Fi

Disliked: Nothing we disliked as such. We just felt it was a bit too quiet for us as it doesn’t allow for children. We understand why as there isn’t enough space for children to run around. Also I think people use it mostly as a really good stop off en route to Cornwall. The Wi-Fi was a little weak at the far end of the site where we were (we try and do a little work whilst travelling and it made it tricky at times)

From the manager: Many thanks for your great review. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. We are disappointed that you did not speak to us about the Free Wifi as we could have sorted it for you. With regards to children we are very clear when advertising that we are an Adults Only Site! This is what our guests look for. We rate ourselves on being a very quiet and boring site. Best wishes from Leigh and David.

Liked: We love the fact that this site is adults only. The site is quiet and all the amenities are a short distance from anywhere on the site. The dog park is great and well maintained. The owners are attentive, welcoming and friendly. This was not our first time here and won't be our last.

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: We have stayed here many times now very peaceful clean and very well kept. Fully serviced pitches excellent showers toilet facilities. There's a local butchers/shop just a minute or two walk via the campsite.down the lane. There's great places to visit including chagford with it's open air heated pool. shops pubs etc. fingle bridge is fantastic for a walk cycle or a drink and a meal in the pub. Exeter is only 20mins drive away for shopping so much to see and do. Don't take my word for it Go and see for yourselves you will not be disappointed.

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Upon arrival to the Adults only site you see its well maintained before even going through the gate. Check in is half done via an email a few days before, all info is sent via an attachment. The owners are lovely, very friendly and helpful.
The pitches are most part pretty flat and large, we had no 18 which was in the sun all day.
Shower block is modern and clean, always hot water it is small (3 of each, toilet and shower) but we never had to wait and the site was fairly busy.

There is free WiFi, and yes it works properly unlike other sites you visit.

We walked to the local pub it is up n down big hill roads but roads are very quiet.

The site is very peaceful, very little road noise during the day, no noise at night.

You can use a charcoal BBQ but you are not allowed open fires due to the site being on the Dartmouth national park. which I get.

All in all a great stay, definitely recommend.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike,

Local attractions

Devoting a few days to rambling explores of Dartmoor National Park is a must hereabouts, with plenty of stunningly scenic spots to include in itineraries. Start with the nearby Teign Valley and the can’t-miss Lydford Gorge (the deepest gorge in south-west England) – don’t forget a camera to snap some shots of the spectacular White Lady waterfall and the Devil’s Cauldron whirlpool. There are more ways to explore Dartmoor National Park than on foot or by bike too: adrenaline junkies can try out whitewater kayaking or canoeing along the River Dart, or head into Okehampton to sign up for scrambling through gorges. History buffs are well served around these parts too: jaunts into Exeter come with possible pitstops at the city’s famed cathedral, medieval guildhall and Tudor-built House that Moved (that one deserves a quick internet search), while rural travels lead to stately manors including Powderham Castle, Castle Drogo, Killerton House, and Buckland and Buckfast abbeys, all within an hour's drive. Poke around England’s last working water-powered forge at Finch Foundry and visit the Museum of Dartmoor Life near Okehampton, or step back into the present day with some kid-friendly fun at Crealy Adventure Park or Diggerland Devon, both around half an hour from the site.
