Ah, Croyde – the mere mention of this lovely little village is liable to perk up the ears of surfer types, who’ve no doubt heard about the splendid waves around this corner of Devon. Those same surfer types (along with those who’d like to learn the art of standing up on water, and anyone else that’s keen on the coast) should also find their ears pricking up at the offerings of Camping @ Croyde Bay, a friendly site in the village centre. The waters at Croyde beach, around 400 metres away, are famed as being fab for both keen surfers and novices, and that also makes this area a top pick for family holidays. The well-established site is a family-friendly place too, in a spot that’s easily walkable to the village’s shops and pubs but quiet enough for a good night’s kip. Facilities include purpose-built toilets and showers, and a much-loved ladies' dressing room with a mirror, power points, hair dryers and hair straighteners. There is an additional hot outdoor shower for sandy wetsuits, a drying area, plenty of fresh drinking water and a washing-up area for dealing with dishes. Guests can also use the communal freezers and mobile phone charging points. As for the local area, it’s not all about Croyde: Putsborough beach (another corker) is also within walking distance, and it’s a couple of miles to Saunton for more sandy times and a gorgeous golf course.

Power optional gravel RV campsite (maximum 7 metres)

Liked fantastic site, close to the village. Motorhome pitch was great, level and we had a rectangle of astro turf for outside, which was a great idea. Ablutions were great, looked great and were spotlessly clean. the site is tiered to gave level pitches to pretty much everyone, which must have taken a fair bit of work to do.

Liked Lovely site facilities very clean ,
In the ladies they had a room with hairdryers, hair straighteners could do with a bit ventilation as did get very hot when drying hair

Liked Everything about this site was exactly as we wanted…..

⭐️Perfect location

⭐️Good facilities
⭐️Good size pitches

Ladies ‘dressing area’ complete with sinks, mirrors, hair dryers and hair straighteners was appreciated!

Washing up area was always clean and tidy

Plenty of freezer space for ice packs

Toilets and showers were also clean every time we used them at various times of the day

Walking into the village took just minutes…here we found ice cream, gift shops, surf shops plus pubs and restaurants

Walking to Croyde Bay beach would have been easy but with children, inflatables and wetsuits, it was easier to drive!

Disliked Only very tiny dislike was lack of space in the showers….not much space to get dried and dressed. BUT, the ladies dressing area and the family showers were always available as the site was not very busy.

Liked Nice pitches. Stayed here for two nights, realised 1 would’ve been enough to see Croyde and Croyde Bay… we don’t surf though - had a nice chill over the two days.
The location is good but I think the site is a bit pricey at £33. Per night. I’d look to book direct next time if I’d want to visit.

Liked Good sized pitch, great location, fake grass brilliant, tidy site, friendly check in. Wash up area great and freezers a great idea.

Disliked Felt toilet shower block could be freshened up a bit more often?
Wonder if our pitch could be facing other way instead of to main track for bit more privacy?

Local attractions

So… the beach? Thought so. Croyde’s one of those fab places that’s equally good for a paddle, a swim or a surf. Experienced boarding types can usually find some good waves down here, and there are shallower sections where newbies can find their feet (with the help of one of the village’s surf schools, ideally). For a rest from the waves, take a walk out to Baggy Point (about 45 minutes on foot), join a game at the village’s beach volleyball school or drive for 10 minutes to the rural pursuits at Borough Farm Sheepdog and Falconry Displays. Alternatively, make it all about the sea with a coasteering day from Croyde, a ride on the beach at Woolacombe or a sea safari from Ilfracombe (both 15 minutes’ drive). The beaches at Putsborough and Saunton Sands are both about five minutes’ drive away and there are some cracking walks to be had on the South West Coast Path around here too.
