  • Quiet and friendly family site on a farm four miles from Bodmin
  • Five miles from the Eden Project and 30 minutes' drive from the coast
  • Within easy reach of the Camel Trail cycle route and other bike paths
No bright lights, no noisy clubhouse and no rigid rules… just peace, quiet and a mightily friendly vibe in a stargazing and cycling haven close to Bodmin and the Eden Project – sound just splendid? Then pitch yourself up at Mena Farm. Run by Ali and Neil, Mena is a family-friendly farm site in central Cornwall, five miles from Bodmin and the Eden Project and eight from St Austell. This is cracking cycling country, with several bike routes running from or near the site and the 18 scenic miles of the family-friendly Camel Trail reachable at Bodmin. Going beachwards, Fowey on the south coast and Newquay on the north are both within half an hour's drive. For days on site, ramble your way over to the wilder corners of Mena for den building and wildlife spotting (species to spy include badgers, rabbits, deer and buzzards), or trundle along to meet the pigs and chickens; egg collecting assistance is most welcome. By night, the combo of clear skies and lack of blazing lights on the park means there's some stellar stargazing to be had. Barbecues and campfires are – of course – allowed at this laidback place, so you can add sausages (and cider?) to your astronomical exploits. Ali and Neil have added a play area and a barn with games, books and a TV to further aid idling, and the mini market sells a good range of essentials to sort supplies without stirring from the grounds; you can also – how fab – get fish and chips delivered right to your pitch.

What customers say

Beautifully maintained, quiet site with spacious pitches. Spotlessly clean, modern facilities including hot showers. Friendly, helpful owners. Great base for Cornwall. A few found the lane narrow, but most were very pleased.

Oak the Lotus bell tent (adults only)

Liked Had a brilliant couple of days at Mena Farm!
We stayed in one of the lotus bell tents which had absolutely everything we needed for our trip. The site is a great size with plenty of space for games (and it was nice to see space deliberately left untouched instead of trying to squeeze as many plots on as possible). Shower and toilet block was kept clean throughout our stay and showers were spacious with plenty of hot water. We didn’t use the WiFi as signal across the site was great. Ali and Neil were really friendly and took time to go through everything on arrival. Beautiful views over the countryside and clear skies at night. Thank you so much!

Disliked The gates are locked at night so you’re given a code to open them if you’re coming back late. As the lotus bell tents are right next to the gate it was quite noisy with the sound of cars left running right outside the tent while people unlocked the gate, drove through and then locked it up before driving on. It didn’t spoil our overall enjoyment of the site but it did disturb our sleep so mentioning for people with kids or those who are light sleepers. The standard bell tents were on the other side of the site so we’d get one of those if we came back again 😊

From the manager: Hi Rebecca - thank you very much for your lovely comments about our little site. I'm so sorry to hear your feedback re the noise at night. As you know, quiet time is 10pm and car movements are usually rare after this time. However, the weekend you stayed with us, coincided with the end of the Boardmasters festival in Newquay. Unfortunately, and unknown to us, we had a several sets of parents leaving the site very late at night to collect their children and bring them back to stay with them. We only became aware of this due to other guests mentioning they disturbance created. I can only apologise, and assure you that this really isn't the norm. I'm glad to hear it hasn't put you off visiting us again. With kindest regards, Ali & Neil

We found this place that is exactly we were looking for.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Everything.
The pitches are generously spacious with plenty of room for even the largest tents, level and well maintained. There's a choice of pitches with or without hedges to allow for privacy and shelter from the winds (they're pretty high up), far enough away from the main road for the traffic noise to be minimal and reasonably close to Bodmin or St Austal for food shopping.
The showers are very spacious, none of the usual three ft square cubicle to clash your elbows with plenty of hot water and a good flow of it too. Toilets are spotless and in keeping with the high standards of maintenance throughout the entire site.
If you're camping in the meadow, be advised it's quite exposed to the South Westerly winds, but the views are amazing!
A great campsite, easy to find and geographically nice and central for exploring all that Cornwall has to offer.
