What customers say
A welcoming, tidy adult-only site with private, level pitches, often treed. Hosts are noted for helpfulness & thoughtful touches. Facilities generally clean & good. Convenient for Lake District exploring. Some note A-road noise & steep pitch walks, balanced by privacy.

Small hillside primitive grass tent campsite
Liked Very helpful owners who have clearly thought a lot about how to make camping easier and pleasant with great facilities.
Shower was also clean and roomy, freezer space, phone charging, WiFi… etc. lots of nice touches. Very private pitches and great to have the fire pits.
Disliked Noise throughout the day and night from busy A road - this spoiled it somewhat for us so bear in mind when booking! Of course the owners cannot change this.
Quite a steep hill to the top pitches and some pitches are too small for a 4 person tent - which may limit pitch choice but is a bonus for others as it maximises privacy and the quietness of the site.

Shepherd's hut (mountain view)
Liked We enjoyed an absolutely lovely stay in the Shepherds Hut for 2 night. Greeted by the owner on arrival, who showed us to the hut, and gave us some information. It was really useful to be given information on the local area too, specifically the bus links into Ambleside and Windermere.
The hut itself was so lovely. Very spacious and clean, with excellent facilities. Lovely touch of having fresh milk in the fridge for our cuppas. Evenings were spent sat outside enjoying a firepit in such peaceful surroundings. The bed was super comfy and shower red hot. There was free WiFi, but the signal was hit and miss. This wasn't an issue as we wanted a relaxing break away from everything, but we did have phone signal anyway.
The hut was very affordable and in my opinion great value for money.
Disliked Nothing to dislike.

Great little site, but it’s on a steep hill.
Small hillside primitive grass tent campsite
Liked Great location, quiet, well kept site with shop, Pret, and pub a short walk away.
Bonus of fire pit / bbq at each pitch.
Disliked I liked the view from the top of the hill, but getting your kit up there is a challenge.

Excellent adult site, SMALL flat pitches, friendly owners
Small hillside primitive grass tent campsite
Liked Really friendly owners, and had a warm welcome & tour of the facilities. The pitches are small and enclosed by woodland around you, so you get some privacy but the views are amazing. We were surrounded by pink flowers and bumblebees! We borrowed a cart from the owners to help get our gear up the hill to the pitch.
Extra points for the neighbours cat “Tom Cheddar” coming to visit us every day! He spent the most part of one evening asleep on our camp bed to escape the rain!
Disliked Nothing! I can see why some may mention the hike up to the pitches - it is steep if you choose a top pitch. But it was worth it for the views. And the addition of being able to borrow the cart to get your gear up there was a helpful touch.

A lovely site, well kept, greeted on arrival. Felt safe as solo female
Small hillside primitive grass tent campsite
Liked Adult only site, small private pitches, clean shower and loo facilities, proximity to the Lakes and Kendal. The pitches are now surrounded by trees, unlike on the photos. Staff helpful when deluged with Lakes rain.
Disliked Yes you can hear the road all the time, but earplugs sorted that, or it’s a kind of white noise.

Small hillside primitive grass tent campsite
Liked Friendly, accommodating owner.
Well maintained site with great views from the top of the hill.
Evenly spaced pitches with separate fire pits and fire wood to buy from the main building.
Decent parking space but could be tight for larger vehicles.
