  • Dog-friendly site in the Northumberland National Park
  • Half an hour's drive from Kielder Forest and Hadrian's Wall Path
  • Café-bar on site with a patio and veranda; International Dark Sky Area
Remote, wild, spacious and scenic are all terms rightly fitting The Boe Rigg, in Northumberland National Park a few miles from the market town of Bellingham. Walking and cycling routes are all around here, along with a huge range of outdoor activities within a short drive including the high ropes, watersports and zipwires of Kielder Water and Forest. Also within driving distance are several famed north of England attractions such as Hadrian's Wall and Alnwick Castle, both under 40 miles, and the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, under 50. The site's excellent facilities include a café/bar open daily to sell produce and handicrafts from local growers and craftspeople. Among The Boe Rigg's other amenities are accessible washrooms with toilets and hot showers, a launderette with washers and dryers and a washing-up area. Free wifi is available in the main building. Campfires and barbecues are both allowed but must be off the ground.

What customers say

A friendly, well-run campground with spacious sites and lovely scenery. Guests loved the helpful owners, clean facilities, and on-site pub/eatery. Despite some minor renovation and occasional lukewarm water, it’s a great spot many want to revisit.

Powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked A friendly welcome. Lovely semi-wild pitch but with electricity and water close by. Wildlife - ducks and sparrows visited us most evenings with the latter actually coming inside the van! Beautiful, warm, clean facilities. Peace. Full blue moon rising orange in the sky.

Disliked Plastic flowers!

Powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Love this quiet site. There is plenty room per pitch and the views are gorgeous. The owners Michelle & Pete are so friendly and helpful. The bar and cafe offer all you need and the food is lovely.
The facilities are clean and there is a separate area for dish washing.
This is our 2nd time here and already feels like a home from home. We would be back every week if we could.

Liked Beautiful scenery, lovely owners, clean toilets, great location.

Disliked It’s a shame the bar / terrace wasn’t open when we visited.

From the manager: Thank you for your review we are glad you enjoyed our site and appreciated the wonderful location.
Unfortunately, it was midweek in May when you visited, which is our Low season and the bar is only open at weekends.
We hope you will visit us again another time and sample our fantastic range of local Ciders and Ales.

We only night but would definitely go back for more

Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The views and plenty of space. Toilet and showers, excellent.

Disliked The cafe/pub was closed. The grass pitches needed a bit of TLC and emphasis on wild areas to allow wild grasses and flowers to flourish. In my opinion, if sorted, it could be one of the best sites in the UK.

Powered gravel campervan campsite

Liked Fantastic site!! Owners super welcoming. We were there just after the VERY busy bank holiday weekend but it was lovely and quiet with a few tents and campervan dotted about. Ducks waking up to visit and a beautiful goose that thinks it’s a swan. Cafe looks amazing but wasn’t open when we were there! Facilities on site perfect! We will be back.

Local attractions

Kielder Water and Forest within 16 miles are full of watersports activities such as canoeing, sailing, and waterskiing, along with water walker and sea scooter hire. A high ropes course, climbing, zipwiring, fencing, archery and crossbow are among the many forest activities available on and above land. Three of the attractions of the Hadrian's Wall UNESCO World Heritage site are within a short drive: Housesteads Roman fort, the most complete in Britain; Vindolanda, and Chesters Roman Fort, six miles from Hexham. Also famed in the region is Alnwick Castle and Garden 37 miles away, made up of huge formal gardens including the world's largest treehouse, and in a setting that will be instantly recognised by Harry Potter fans (broomstick training is available during the summer months: how magic). The Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is about 45 miles from here, to reach Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island via moorland, countryside and ancient forest. The site is 45 miles from Carlisle.
