  • Fabulous location on the banks of the River Ouse in Bishopthorpe
  • A 10-minute drive to York city centre, with summer riverbus available
  • Restaurant, café-bar, playground, beauty salon and kayak hire on site
The name says it all here – The Riverfront York is indeed in a wonderful location right on the banks of the River Ouse, on the edge of the North Yorkshire village of Bishopthorpe. This is a fabulous setting for many reasons – the lush greenery and river views take top billing, of course, but there’s also the fact that the centre of York is only about three miles away. Drive up to the city in about 10 minutes, cycle it in 20 minutes or (if you're here between April and September) catch a riverbus for a particularly scenic journey to the centre. There are other ways to enjoy that river scenery too – you can hire motor boats or kayaks on site or take walks along the riverside path. And if that all sounds like too much effort, just find a quiet spot on site and settle down with your book or connect to the wifi to send lovely pics to your pals back home. Facilities at this site have been very nicely thought out – there's a playground for the kids and a beauty salon where frazzled grownups can treat themselves to a bit of pampering. Food is easily sorted as well, with a café-bar selling breakfasts, coffees, snacks and sandwiches on site. Bosun, the main restaurant (open Thursday to Sunday), also has a full menu featuring local seasonal ingredients, steak specials, seafood dishes, Sunday lunches and kids’ options. Even the bathrooms are worth an honourable mention here too – these smart modern facilities have been stylishly decorated and kitted out with accessible facilities as well as handy extras like hairdryers.

What customers say

This is a beautifully maintained, clean, and peaceful riverside site with excellent modern shower and toilet facilities, frequently described as the best ever experienced. Guests appreciate the convenient location for visiting York via walk, bus, or river taxi. Minor points raised include limited washing-up sinks, occasional WiFi issues, and occasional noise from nearby works, with some noting the restaurant has limited opening hours.

Powered grass and gravel travel trailer campsite (medium, no awning)

Liked Location for walks is good, regular bus service into/from York. (or river taxi/hire boat) Nice local pubs within walking distance. The site is very well run and looked after and facilities modern, and clean. Its set on a beautiful setting next to the river, with a cafe bar and restaurant. We walked into York (1 hour to the park) and took a bus back.

Disliked Young children running around unattended, slamming in and out of toilet facilities etc, and charging around park etc. these particular families were with adults staying together on the site in two separate vans.

Disliked Should have separate wash cubicles in the toilet/shower blocks and a path way from each pitch for wheel chairs instead of a stoned area.

Powered grass and gravel travel trailer campsite (medium, no awning)

Liked Very nice clean, tidy site. ( including toilet and showrs) Good location for bus trip to York. And "The Bosun" does a great Sunday lunch.

Disliked Lack of anybody to seek additional information.Want a bus time? Send an email.
Discuss showers that are too hot..send an email.
The cost of a pitch might suggest an open office that rather than one open occasionally.
But never when you go and check!
And then the Ferry does not run Tuesdays end September...no.good if you have booked Sunday lunch.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback Mike - we’re so pleased you enjoyed the clean, well-kept site, our facilities, and the convenience of getting into York. And it’s great to hear you enjoyed Sunday lunch at Bosun’s!
As a small site, we don’t staff the office full-time, but we do provide a dedicated phone number for guests and have team members based nearby who are always available to help with enquiries. We’re working on making that clearer so guests know how to reach us during their stay.
Regarding the Riverbus, it’s operated by our partner, City Cruises, and runs to and from our site on weekends throughout the summer, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays during school holidays.
Thanks again for your comments — they help us improve, and we hope to welcome you back.
