  • Well-maintained and green site five miles from the Suffolk coast
  • Lake and nature trail on site
  • On-site village shop and off-licence; pub 10 minutes' walk away
Travel five miles inland from the sunny Suffolk coastline and you’ll arrive at this little gem on the outskirts of Wenhaston. The gorgeous, well-maintained grounds at this smart site are just part of the attention to detail all around the park, which has been carefully laid out by the friendly and helpful owners. There's greenery all around here: this small and pretty site has its own nature trail and lake, and is surrounded by acres of countryside for hikes and rambles. If walking isn't your thing, hire bikes from the Southwold Bike Centre (20 minutes' drive away) to pedal around the flats of Suffolk; horse riding's pretty popular in the area too, or you could go golfing at Halesworth Golf Club five minutes' drive away. Taking things (much easier), the local pub is a 10-minute walk down the road. Heathside Caravans has a village shop and an off-licence on site for those holiday essentials, and a well-maintained shower block for guests' use. For more supplies. the village of Halesworth is under 15 minutes' drive away and Aldeburgh, Snape and Beccles are all within half an hour.

FHU grass campsite

Liked Fantastic open areas for games with daughters and grandkids who stayed in lodges close by. Area is well kept and touring pitches a good size with some privacy hedges between. No hiccups with water, waste or electric, all working fine. Great little shop on site and other ameanities great (could probably do with an extra gents cubicle if site fully occupied with 16 pitches but fine while we were there). Got a good welcome on arrival and staff friendly and professional. Great location for the Suffolk coast and Southwold only 15 mins by car. Great pubs all within a short drive. It’s our second stay in the last two summers and we will be back for sure. Thanks Heathside 👍

Disliked Need extra gents loo.

Glamping Pod

Liked Pod was very clean and tidy,we booked 1 pod and 4 huts all was well organised.

Disliked We had some bad experiences as we went there for fun and recreation but there was a lady next to us came and shouted with us in front of the kids, where we we not making any noise just doing BBQ and Pitch fire but obviously we were a big group .it was only 10:30 as you know summer time night starts very late so I think you should make your quiet zone at summer 12pm instead of 10 as we do glamping for pitch fire so we should get at least a bit time for enjoy.

From the manager: I'm afraid we had several complaint about the noise from your group very late into the early hours of the morning, the lady was quite right to ask you to keep the noise down at midnight!

All campsites have a 10.00pm noise curfew and we will continue with this this.

Glamping Pod

Liked We loved our weekend stay. The place is so good for all ages and families there is so much green space for the kids to run around and alot of space for family games and football. There is a park and table tennis basket ball etc we brought all our own stuff for it. The kids loved it. The glamping pods are cozy and comfortable I love the fact they have a toilet and a shower beats having to go to a shower block. The site does have a shower block which my parents used they said it was perfectly fine and clean. The staff were so lovely so friendly. The place is so well kept..it is so close to some lovely places we visited southwold and Walberswick we didn't eat out this time bht it's very close to various pubs and restaurants . My parents had their dog and it was ideal for him with all the green space and a nature walk. Defo will.be returning.

FHU grass campsite

Liked site was clean and tidy as were the facilities; shop well stocked. Gladed area was pleasant to walk in, but too small - walk around was less than 1/4 mile.

Disliked Only one toilet and one shower (for each sex - ie 1 x male plus 1 x female) for a site of this size/Nos of people on site, is ridiculous; while we were advised we could also use the 'disabled' facility, this was too often also 'in use' and therefore unavailable.
Pitches were too close to each other. Noise levels on site were OK during day and early evening, but later in the evening noise levels rose and the loud voices and laughter going on into early hours of the morning, getting louder as the evening wore on (prob the alcohol kicking in ), were annoying and sleep depriving.
So much so, we left the site a day early;
also, when booking out, the female member of staff in the shop simply couldn't care less and was totally dis-interested/couldn't care less attitude.

A terrific, friendly, well organised and well positioned site.

Local attractions

After all the walking, cycling, horse riding and golfing, get stuck into the area's history at the 12th-century fortress of Framlingham Castle, half an hour's drive away. Once the refuge of Mary Tudor, this fab place now has exhibitions, themed trails and an audio tour covering its centuries of history: enough to keep young Horrible Histories fans entertained too. Arty sorts will know that Suffolk is Constable country: if this is you, come armed with camera or paintbox to snap and sketch the countryside, harbour and coastal views around the area. You could also take a trip to art complex the Snape Maltings on the Alde river, for events, activities and evening entertainment in the concert hall. Seaside? But of course. Have a stroll around Southwold and its colourful beach huts, or drive half an hour north to Lowestoft for seaside amusements and Pleasurewood Hills, a nifty tucked away theme park with rollercoasters and attractions for all. Walberswick beach, around a 15-minute drive from Heathside, is a popular spot for crabbing. If you’re staying at Heathside for a while, set off early and spend the whole day on the Norfolk Broads (about an hour and 15 minutes' drive north, or drive south for around an hour and a half to the villages of Long Melford and Lavenham with their medieval timber-framed houses.
