  • Peaceful adults-only site two miles from the Norfolk Broads
  • A 15-minute drive from Norwich city centre; 25 minutes from the coast
  • Atmospheric night-time vibes from lit woodlands; café and farm shop
If boating on The Broads has long been on your bucket list, take a look here: the dog-friendly Black Barn Farm is a peaceful place to pitch up two miles from the edge of the national park. Here, the adults-only pitches are in a 22-acre field in an established orchard and surrounded by woodlands, making for a rather chilled-out stay. This area is known as the big sky country, so splendid sunsets and lights in the trees create a pretty nice night-time vibe. You’ll be able to kick off the evening with a firepit or barbecue too, as both are permitted on site. A 15-minute drive from Norwich, this site is on the edge of Salhouse, a rural Broads village. So, bridleways and footpaths may be the first thing to capture your attention, as they lead the way to walking, wildlife spotting and canoe hire in the Salhouse Broad – or there's a place to launch your own canoe or paddleboard, two miles away from the site. Convenience is key at this site, starting with the toilets and showers inside the barn, all heated with auto light switches for that extra ease. The barn also has a small farm shop and a café that serves up sizeable breakfasts plus sandwiches and snacks. Nearby, a train station and bus stop are within walking distance with regular services to Norwich city centre or the coast. Foodie? The local food shop is a 20-minute walk away along a public footpath (or a five-minute car journey). For more specific bits, there’s a bigger supermarket 10 minutes’ drive away and beer aficionados will find a brewery and pub five minutes’ drive away too.

Liked: A really lovely, peaceful site with good facilities and a fantastic onsite cafe.

Blackbarn farm is very handy if you're planning to get onto the broads at Salhouse or Wroxham and is also within walking distance of a pub and local train station for heading to the coast or into Norwich.

We are at the Cafe on Saturday morning and were really pleasantly surprised. The best breakfast we've had in a long time and not that expensive. Get in early though is it gets very busy very quickly from opening time.

Disliked: We really liked the site, but they could improve things by providing some arrival instructions with the booking and also perhaps adding an extra shower cubicle. Outside of that, we'd be delighted to stay again.

Liked: We planned to stay here for three nights, but unfortunately, caravan issues cut our visit short. Despite that, we had a lovely time and were really impressed with the site!

The layout is well thought out, with plenty of water points making it easy to top up. The toilets and showers are clean, though they are unisex, and with only two showers, timing matters if you want to avoid a wait.

A charming touch to the site is the orchard walk near the glamping tents—such a peaceful spot! Speaking of wonderful finds, the on-site craft market is a real treat. Bring your wallet because you *will* find something you can’t resist!

The café upstairs is a great option if you don’t feel like cooking, offering plenty of food choices to enjoy. And if you're into gardening, the nursery is a fascinating place to browse—some of the trees and shrubs are absolutely stunning (perhaps one day I’ll be able to afford them!).

All in all, a fantastic site with plenty to explore.

Disliked: One thing to note—there’s no signage directing you around the back of the big barn. If you’re towing and unfamiliar with the layout, it can be a bit nerve-wracking, but rest assured, there’s plenty of space once you get there.

Liked: Lovely campsite with large pitches, very relaxed about where you park. Good facilities and a lovely farm shop on site with local produce, great value for money and nice to get the bus into Norwich.

Disliked: Could do with a fold up shelf in showers to to save toiletry bag getting wet and mirrors in toilets for shaving and brushing teeth but not a biggy.

Liked: Loved the surprise of a farmers market on the weekend we visited.
Everything you needed was there.
Have already recommended family visit.

Disliked: Not a fan of communal toilets, but all very clean and easy to use.
Would also benefit from a bit of signage when you get there as already mentioned in a few other reviews.

Local attractions

Nosy about Norwich (15 minutes’ drive)? Those of you who aren’t familiar with this cultural city will find there’s much to stick your nose into, from bargain hunting around the old market to a full-on shopping trip or a pitstop tour of the independent eateries and historic sites… the highlight reel includes the hilltop Norwich Castle and the 11th-century cathedral. Those of you who are keen to weave a bit of the seaside into your way will want to head on over to the sandy beach and dunes at Winterton beach (35 minutes) or onto Great Yarmouth (25 minutes). This seaside resort town is all about the traditional, including a funfair, sandy beaches and the Sea Life Great Yarmouth aquarium.
