Grass touring pitch

  • Adults-only Staffordshire touring park set in 16 acres of woodland
  • Royal Air Force Museum Midlands and Stafford 20 minutes’ drive
  • Neatly kept pitches; pubs 10 minutes’ drive and farm shop 15 minutes
Tucked away in the Staffordshire village of the same name, High Onn Holiday Park is a family-run spot in 16 acres of peaceful woodland. Staying here gives you easy access to the pretty village of Wheaton Aston, the Shropshire Union Canal and UNESCO-listed exhibits at the Ironbridge Gorge Museums. It’s an adults-only setup here, but well-behaved dogs are welcome, with nine acres of woodland trails on which they can stretch their paws. Simple facilities on site include optional electric hook-ups, a well-maintained toilet block, outdoor showers and all the vital waste disposal amenities. You can buy Calor gas on site too. For other shopping needs, you’re well supplied with supermarkets in Stafford (20 minutes’ drive) and Telford (25 minutes). The nearest petrol station is 10 minutes’ drive away, and public transport options include a railway station in Stafford, and a bus stop (about a mile from the site) that serves the town centre. If you’re dodging cooking duties while on your Staffordshire break, you’ll be pleased to hear there are good pubs in Wheaton Aston and Gnosall (both 10 minutes), plus a tearoom and farm shop in Haughton (15 minutes).

What customers say

This peaceful, tidy rural site is praised for its spotless, modern washrooms, often called the best ever. Spacious sites and friendly, helpful owners are a highlight. Despite some noting narrow access roads and farm smells, most rave about it and want to return.

Liked Loved the site and location.... toilets blocks very clean and the owners very polite and helpfull.

Disliked Not so much a dislike but we were quite a distance from the toilet blocks and as I'm disabled maybe I should have mentioned that in our booking. Very pleased overall and would definitely stay again.

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked The size of the pitch was great, it was in the shade too which suited us. Toilets were very clean, probably one of the cleanest sites I’ve stayed at. There is a strong sense of community amongst the seasonal pitch holders. Most are very friendly. Good for dog. Plenty of dogs on site, and plenty of walks along quiet roads. We liked to take a walk down to the old RAF site. There’s a canal which runs across the end of the runway across the road. Site settles down nicely in the evening, with little to no noise throughout the night.

Disliked The teenagers running about making a lot of noise with water guns and children cycling around the site. It was advertised as a peaceful adult site. It was bank holiday weekend though. We also disliked the gunfire from the clay pigeon shooting ( I assume) close by, went on for hours from about 10-11 ish in the morning. Not good if you have a dog sensitive to loud bangs. Loud music playing from the seasonal pitches and very loud seasonal pitch holders shouting for hours like they were all in a loud bar fighting to be heard. Could have been quieter.

From the manager: sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay with ourselves. With the seasonal's we do allow Grandchildren to visit the Park which is very now and then, but due to the Bank Holiday weekend a few did arrive. Due to the exceptional hot weather is why the Teenagers were playing because usually we have no noise at all off any of the adults or grandchildren. We are a Rural Park and the Clay Pigeon shooting is held once a week on a Sunday for approx 1 hour.
We have our quiet hours from 10.00pm to 8.00am and to be honest we did say that for the amount of people we had on the Park there was very little noise and even the dogs were well behaved with very little barking

Local attractions

Part of RAF Cosford, the Royal Air Force Museum Midlands (20 minutes’ drive) displays Spitfires and other aircraft that saw combat during the Battle of Britain, as well as planes from the Cold War. Other exhibits explore the role Cosford played during World War II, when the site was a debriefing centre for Allied soldiers who had been taken prisoners in Germany. A photogenic construction spanning the River Severn, the Iron Bridge (half an hour) dates from the late 18th century and was the first iron bridge in the world, heralding the innovations of the Industrial Revolution. It is now part of a UNESCO World Heritage site that also includes the red-brick Museum of the Gorge and the Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron. The medieval town of Shrewsbury (50 minutes), which occupies a bend of the River Severn, has several splendid waterfront green spaces, such as the Quarry, with well-tended, colourful flower beds; and Poplar Island, an area of grassland where you might spot kingfishers and egrets.
