  • Peaceful Shropshire farm park with views of Lodge Hill and The Wrekin
  • A 15-minute drive to Church Stretton; 25 to Shrewsbury
  • On-site half-acre fishing lake; fresh eggs available
Get set for a peaceful stay at The Shepherd's Loft, a family-run farm in the Shropshire countryside with just excellent views of Lodge Hill and The Wrekin. It sits in the quiet village of Frodesley, which is not only easy to get to but also splendid for stargazing (it's near the dark skies of the Shropshire Hills). You'll know for sure that you're in the countryside, with fresh eggs for sale at the gate. Guests here can look forward to good on-site facilities, including a well-maintained private toilet and a hot shower unit, both kept to a high standard for your comfort. A farm shop is five minutes' drive away, and more shops and supermarkets are in Shrewsbury, 25 minutes' drive away. How to fill your days? There are walks directly from the site, plus plenty more to explore in the Shropshire Hills National Landscape. Bring a rod to try the fishing pond on site, which is available to use for an additional fee. For culinary treats, you might also like to head to the foodie town of Ludlow (35 minutes).

What customers say

This small, peaceful rural campsite boasts beautiful country views. Pitches are generally flat, well-spaced, with electric and water hookups. Visitors loved the friendly owners, clean facilities, and good value. The single washroom was noted as basic but usually adequate. Ideal for a quiet getaway or stopover, with great walking and local sights. Fresh eggs and homemade goods available. Management is addressing minor hose and shower temp issues.

Liked Owners really friendly. Lovely little site with donkeys and chickens to say hello too. Gorgeous views over mountains and nice to have your own tap.

Disliked A little strict on the guest policy. We would have loved to meet up with some friends for a drink or two one evening but you’re not allowed guests past 6pm. And no more than 2 guests in daytime
A little play area would make this place a bit more family friendly

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your thoughtful review. We’re really pleased you enjoyed the friendly atmosphere, beautiful views, and the visits from the donkeys and chickens! It’s also great to hear you appreciated having your own water tap on the pitch.

We do appreciate your feedback regarding the guest policy. As a very small and quiet site, the policy is in place to help maintain the peaceful environment that many guests choose us for, as well as to manage parking and facilities fairly for everyone staying on site. We completely understand your point though, and appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

We really appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you back again in the future!

Liked The location, very easy to get to and to find. Like the facilities they had everything that you needed in a peaceful quiet location. You can even have safe fire pits for that added camping experience. The hosts were great and took the trouble to come and meet us on arrival to ensure that everything was right. They even have farm produce for sale including eggs and preserves thought this was a great touch

Disliked Nothing really was a good stay

Thank you as well for your kind comments about the welcome you received on arrival; we always try to make sure guests feel settled and looked after from the moment they arrive.

It’s wonderful to hear you enjoyed the farm produce too. The fresh eggs and preserves are something we really enjoy sharing with guests, so we’re glad you thought it was a nice touch.

Liked Good pitches, clean facilities, great views, friendly and helpful staff, lots of walks nearby. Loved the honesty box for eggs and jams. Some map info for some walks and info about nearby pubs and the local farm shop.

Disliked NOT a dislike, just a point people may need to know.
There is 1 toilet and shower together, so if you are a person who cant wait when you need to go, it would be best to have your own toilet. We only had to wait a couple of times and the site was quite full, we had our own toilet and didn't need to use it.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely and detailed review, and for recommending us to friends—we really appreciate it!

We’re delighted you enjoyed the pitches, views, nearby walks, and the peaceful atmosphere of the site. It’s great to hear the information on local walks, pubs, and the farm shop was useful during your stay. We’re also so pleased you loved the honesty box for the eggs and jams—those little touches are something we really enjoy offering our guests.

Thank you as well for mentioning the bathroom setup in such a fair and helpful way for future visitors. As a small site we do keep the facilities simple, but we’re pleased to say we have now laid the concrete base for an additional toilet, which we hope to have installed by the end of June. We’re always looking at ways to improve the experience for our guests while keeping the quiet, relaxed feel of the site.

We truly appreciate your feedback and would love to welcome you back again for another countryside getaway soon!

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely review! We’re delighted you enjoyed the beautiful countryside, the peaceful atmosphere, and your welcome from Cath. It sounds like you had a wonderfully relaxing stay!

We’re also really pleased you found the facilities clean and enjoyed the site so much. As for the spider… living in the countryside means they occasionally like to make themselves at home too! 🤣 We hope he didn’t disturb your shower too much.

Thanks again for your kind words, and we’d love to welcome you back again soon!

Liked Only 8 pitches so nice and quiet. Owners mum greeted everyone that came in, very welcoming.

Disliked Only one shower/toilet block but sufficient for the 8 pitches, no queues.

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review! We’re so pleased you enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere—having just 8 pitches really does help keep things nice and quiet. It’s great to hear you received a warm welcome on arrival; we’ll be sure to pass that on 😊

We’re glad the facilities worked well for you during your stay, and it’s wonderful to hear how much your son enjoyed meeting the animals—especially the donkeys! They do have a way of winning people over, no matter their age 🤣

We’d love to welcome you back again for another relaxing visit soon!

Liked Good quiet sight, and small site so not over crowded,

Disliked In a busy time the toilet facilities will be a problem, as the only toilet is in with the shower

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We’re really pleased you enjoyed the quiet, small nature of the site—it’s something many of our guests value.

We appreciate your feedback regarding the facilities. As a small site, we do have limited amenities, and we understand that having the toilet and shower combined may be less convenient during busier times. We’ll certainly keep this in mind as we look at ways to improve the experience for our guests.

Thanks again for your stay, and we hope to welcome you back in the future!

Liked The site is a wonderful, secluded getaway that offers a truly quiet and intimate atmosphere away from the crowds. One of the standout features was the local farm animals, including the donkeys and chickens, which wandered right up to the site and provided great entertainment for our daughter. It is a charming, peaceful spot for anyone looking for a small, out-of-the-way retreat in the heart of the countryside.

Disliked The entrance would benefit from much clearer signage, as it is easy to miss and results in some difficult maneuvering in the narrow surrounding lanes. Additionally, the infrastructure feels quite limited with only a single toilet and shower unit available for guests. The washing-up facilities could also be improved by the addition of warm water, as the current setup is a bit too basic for a fully comfortable stay.

From the manager: Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed review. We’re delighted you enjoyed the peaceful, secluded atmosphere of the site—it’s exactly what we aim to offer for those looking to escape the crowds. It’s lovely to hear your daughter enjoyed the donkeys and chickens too; they certainly like to make themselves part of the experience!

We really appreciate your constructive feedback as well. We understand the entrance can be easy to miss, and we’re already looking at ways to improve the signage to make arrivals smoother. Regarding the facilities, we aim to keep things simple in keeping with the small, off-grid feel of the site, but we do take your comments on board—especially around the washing-up area—and will consider how we can improve comfort while maintaining that charm.

Thanks again for staying with us, and we hope to welcome you back in the future.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We’re really glad you enjoyed the pitches and the convenience of electric and water hookups.

We appreciate your feedback regarding the facilities and location. As a small, rural site, we aim to offer a peaceful and more secluded experience, though we understand this may feel a little isolated for some. We also recognise that having a single shower and toilet may not suit everyone, and we’ll keep your comments in mind as we continue to improve.

Liked Quiet
Flat pitch with reasonable space
Friendly greeting
Donkeys were nice

Disliked Only 1 shower and toilet for the whole site and both together so if shower occupied, meant waiting for bathroom, not ideal with young children
Shower was small and not very warm
No hot water available in the washing up area

Local attractions

Once you’ve warmed up on the local footpaths, set off for longer strolls in the Shropshire Hills, perhaps starting from the walkers’ mecca Church Stretton (15 minutes’ drive) at the foot of the Long Mynd. Caer Caradoc (10 minutes) and the Wrekin (half an hour) are close by if you’d rather tackle a mountain or two. Quad biking, horse riding and River Severn canoe trips are all possible too if you don’t mind a drive of 45 minutes or so. For a bit of local history, start with Acton Burnell Castle (five minutes), the seat of the first Parliament in 1283, then move on to Wroxeter (15 minutes) to explore the Roman City and then take a tour and tasting at the vineyard next door. You could also embark on a Charles Darwin-themed tour of Shrewsbury (25 minutes). Ironbridge (25 minutes) is another fine place for a glimpse into the past, as is the lovely National Trust estate Attingham Park (20 minutes). Or try the Telford Steam Railway (25 minutes) for a special day out.
