Scenic fishing lake
Tent
Plenty of space for tents -we also have rough camping fields if you want to get away from everyone
Well cut grass and maintained surrounds

  • 70-acre estate including fields and woodlands
  • Six-acre fishing lake on site with rudd, roach and tench
  • Great base for exploring the Lincolnshire countryside
No word of a lie: you might land a whopper of a carp at Oakhill Leisure between Lincoln and Newark-on-Trent. For monsters of up to 35lb have been angled for at the site's six-acre fishing lake, as well as sizeable specimens of rudd, roach and tench. If you're not fishing or if you feel like doing a victory lap after landing a massive carp, plenty is on hand to explore, as Oakhill is on a site made up of the 10-acre campsite, walking and playing fields covering 30 acres, and finally about 20 acres of woodland. Take the 20 to 30-minute circular walk around the lake and through the woodland; it and the site grounds are pretty handsome… The accommodation part of Oakhill is on flat and well-drained grassland, bordered by trees on three sides and a hedge. Toilets, showers and a washroom are in the facilities building and a play area is also on site. But back to the fishing… You'll need a fishing licence (available at the post office) to fish at Oakhill Leisure, as well as your own equipment and bait; a small charge applies to angle on site, and you'll need to call the office in advance to book your peg. Please note that under-16s must be accompanied by an adult and that they aren't allowed to stay around the lake overnight.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Toilet/shower/laundry room was modern and kept spotless by the staff, even on a hot bank holiday weekend. For us the best pitches were non-electric grass, much quieter but further to walk to the facilities. Lots of space for kids with football pitches, a good play area and woodland instruments. A small reception selling ice cream, soft drinks & coffee. The Green Man pub walkable but along a country road.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked On arrival everything is signposted very clearly, reception were extremely welcoming, informative and friendly. We were informed of where our pitch, facilities and near by walks etc were. The pitches in the “Ralley” field were free choice, but all pitches very spacious! There’s a few football nets in the middle for children to play nearby without any need to worry about accidental damage! The play park and musical instruments for the little ones is a lovely addition! We were informed of the hidden faces throughout the woodland walk, and found it a lovely way to spend a steady hour or so wandering the woods. The dogs loved this too!! There’s spaces where dogs can be let off leads, these are made clear upon arrival at reception and upon the map given. The facilities are immaculately kept and to say it was a busy bank holiday, there was minimal queueing. We didn’t venture far off site so cannot comment on things to do near by, but the site was plenty for those slower days! Me, my mum and 2 dogs thoroughly enjoyed a restful bank holiday and would happily return!
Thank you Oakhill Leisure for having us!

The shower block and toilets were very clean throughout the stay. The washing up facility was a great bonus for us. Overall a really lovely stay and will be visiting again to make the most of the walks and field. Also dog friendly which is needed for us.

Local attractions

Food, glorious food… bring the bike and cycle to the nearby villages of Norton Disney, Bassingham and Auborn for drinks and home-cooked Lincolnshire food in friendly well-run pubs. Evening meals recommended by the team are at the Green Man pub a mile and a half away. Visit nearby Newark for its castle, National Civil War Centre and Newark Museum and central square with a market all day on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Food and drink are recommended here too at Oakhill Leisure's fave coffee shop Strays in Middle Gate. The site is handy for lovely Lincoln, where you can have a look at the castle, the Medieval Bishop's Palace and the grand old cathedral: the views (and the walk to it up Steep Hill) are just a bit fabulous…
