  • Remote and rural site in the Lincolnshire countryside
  • Home to many rescue animals including hens, pigs, geese and ducks
  • Well-stocked fishing lake
What a lush site this is for gainful countryside holidays in the Lincolnshire countryside, whiling days away fishing, woodland walking and just lazing by the lakeside with open book or one's very own thoughts. There are animals too… Small and family-run Sunflower Park near Gainsborough has taken in quite a few rescue animals in their time (they're a friendly and welcoming lot here), so on site you'll meet the three family pets as well as some alpacas, several ex-battery hens and their strutting cockerel. Also adopted are a family of geese, ducks, Kunekune pigs and a couple of Gloucester old spots: do make sure to say hi to all. As you might guess, this is a relaxed and amiable site, set remotely and rurally on a five-acre plot that includes paddocks, a playground, open pastureland, a private woodland walk and a well-stocked fishing lake exclusively for guests' use. You might reckon the park's remote rural setting makes it a wildlife haven too, and you'd reckon right: its boundaries run directly into Laughton Forest's Tuetoes Wood, a Forestry Commission nature haven for walking and cycling among the trees, and home to wildlife like deer, foxes, owls, rabbits, jays, pheasants, cuckoos, woodpeckers – all within viewable and hearing distance from your pitch. Sunflower Park has toilets, showers, a drying room, a launderette and ice pack freezing. Firepits are available for hire for the whole of guests' stays and arrive full and ready to light. Please note that due to being in a forest location and on sandy ground, you will most likely come across spiders, ants, lizards, grass snakes, beetles etc. Please only book if you are comfortable with the fact that there will be wildlife around you.

Powered grass campsite

Liked If you are a animal lover, i think this is the place for you.
Located next to a forest (which is really cool, my children found a den and spent hours playing inside) lots of animals which I believe are rescued, my favourite was the beautiful red chested bird that came down for a stroke, great big park for the children, pub/bar and a little shop.
Its a animal busy campsite, i know some reviews complained about the smell, the pigs do smell but they are pigs they are going to smell. But they looked very happy rolling around in mud eating their grub.
The owners seemed very friendly and easy going, they was happy for us to swop pitches last minute. I must add i saw a review saying they never saw them cleaning but we never saw them stood still. They was always busy potting around doing jobs.
The pictures of the pitch on pitch up i think are abit outdated as they show a grass pitch but there wasnt alot of grass left, it was mostly sand which wasnt a problem it just gets everywhere. I was concerned as it was mention to make sure your children were clean to not mucky the showers but no matter how hard you tried with the environment it was hard to stop them getting mucky. But mucky kids are happy kids right? The sign obviously works because we made the kids wash their feet with the hose before a shower.
The facilities were ok but could maybe do with a little tlc. We are a family that camps all the time and we have seen alot worst. The toilet pans were white, always soap (soap bottle literally everywhere you'd never run out, which is great if youve been petting the animals as well). The water runs hot and its a continuous water running instead of those silly push buttons, this is a luxury on its own. Toilet roll always full. They had heating inside even in the night which was lovely. If I was going to say where you could improve on the toilet blocks it would be to have something to dry your hands with, we couldnt get the light to work in one of them and somewhere to hang your towel/clothes (the ones we found had rust of them from the moisture).
There was a singer on, pizza van and some really cool little activity books in a community room that get yours kids involved with nature!
The kids loved the park, it was massive! They share it with the gease a few times but they didnt mind that.
You can hire fire pits and buy logs, which is great because a lot of places dont let you have fires now.
I think its a lovely little stay, I think it does need a little more time spent on certain areas but it really doesnt effect the stay and shouldn't put you off coming. I only mention this as there is some negative reviews that made us think about this place first but we had a really nice time so thank you.

From the manager: Very kind and very fair.

Just Two points.
There are rust free hooks behind the shower curtain that you may have missed.

Hand drying.
We used to provide hand towelsbut I won't ho into what was wiped with them.
Plus we got criticized as seen as unhygienic
We then supplied paper hand towels and these were shoved into the toilets, then blocked on a number of occasions.
Electric driers but they were ripped off the wall.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked We’ve just returned from our two-day stay at Sunflower Park, which was recommended to us by a friend – and I’m absolutely thrilled with this place! It’s my favorite campsite so far. The owners are incredibly kind and helpful, and it’s clear they put their whole heart into running this park. You can truly feel the soul of the place.
Everything is well-organized and you’ll find all you need to have a great time. I was there with my family, including three children aged 9, 12, and 13, and everyone found something to enjoy. There’s a great playground with trampolines, a fishing pond, and friendly animals. The freely roaming geese add a lot of charm to the atmosphere.
There’s also a bar, food available to buy, and a small shop on-site. The live music in the evenings adds a wonderful touch to the overall vibe. We’re already looking forward to coming back! Brzmi nasturaknie?

Liked Fabulous family site. Animals and play area for kids a bonus !
More a sand pitch rather than grass however to our advantage as made putting in pegs and removing easier.
Can't comment on WiFi as no idea if site has any we wasn't given any codes so check if u have older children who can't cope without Internet. Will definitely return

Disliked Honestly ignore negative comments. Its a camp site not a 5 star hotel. Yes there will be dirt in showers (wear flipflops) that's the fun of camping. Covid 19 signs need to be taken down now though

Liked Only planned to stay one night but stayed 3 instead as we had to go home! ☹️ what a delight to find this little treasure. Its a rescue centre first and foremost and then camping site second. It has everything you would need and more with a lovely warm welcome from Ian and Josie and the team. Its like a little community which is a beautiful atmosphere. They have all the facilities showers, toilets, waste, fresh water, little shop without the camp site £££, bar, cafe/breakfast bar, play park, dog run to let dog off lead. You have the choice of electric or non electric pitches. Lots of animals to see from donkeys, pigs, ferrets, rabbits, peacocks to my favourite Highland cow. Lots more to mention, all rescued and have a story but are loved beyond now. Amazing for my family who consists of grumpy husband, chronic pain wife, ASD 11 year old daughter and 3 fur babies xx

Disliked We disliked absolutely nothing. Part from packing up to leave!!

Local attractions

Walkers, hikers, cyclists, energetic runners and nature spotters have Tuetoes Wood right beside Sunflower Park, the Forestry Commission-managed and publicly accessible part of vast Laughton Forest. If you're an avid animal fan, take time to get to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park just outside Doncaster, home to a menagerie of over 300 from around the world, and to The Deep at Hull, one of the biggest aquariums in the UK and a habitat for over 3000 marine critters. Going south, history buffs can get to Lincoln for eleventh century Lincoln Cathedral, the third biggest in Britain after St Paul's in London and York Minster. Lincoln Castle is also well worth a look, to gaze geekily upon one of the four original remaining copies of the Magna Carta.
