  • Remote and rural site in the Lincolnshire countryside
  • Home to many rescue animals including hens, pigs, geese and ducks
  • Fish at the well-stocked lake for an additional fee
What a lush site this is for holidays in the Lincolnshire countryside, whiling days away fishing, woodland walking and just lazing by the lakeside with an open book or one's very own thoughts. There are animals too… Small and family-run Sunflower Park near Gainsborough has taken in quite a few rescue animals in their time (they're a friendly and welcoming lot here), so on site you'll meet the three family pets as well as some alpacas, several ex-battery hens and their strutting cockerel. Also adopted are a family of geese, ducks, Kunekune pigs and a couple of Gloucester old spots: do make sure to say hi to all. As you might guess, this is a relaxed and amiable site, set remotely and rurally on a five-acre plot that includes paddocks, a playground, open pastureland, a private woodland walk and a well-stocked fishing lake (grab a fishing day pass for a small additional fee) exclusively for guests' use. You might reckon the park's remote rural setting makes it a wildlife haven too, and you'd reckon right: its boundaries run directly into Laughton Forest's Tuetoes Wood, a Forestry Commission nature haven for walking and cycling among the trees, and home to wildlife like deer, foxes, owls, rabbits, jays, pheasants, cuckoos, woodpeckers – all within viewable and hearing distance from your pitch. Sunflower Park has toilets, showers, a drying room, a launderette and ice pack freezing. Firepits are available for hire for the whole of guests' stays and arrive full and ready to light. Please note that due to being in a forest location and on sandy ground, you will most likely come across spiders, ants, lizards, grass snakes, beetles etc. Please only book if you are comfortable with the fact that there will be wildlife around you.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked All the staff are very friendly. The young girl that got the animals out went above and beyond explaining everything about each animal, she was amazing with my children. Food is nice and very reasonably price as well on the on site shop.

Disliked Only negative I have is the amount of dust/dry mud around the camping pitches but it has been a very dry summer so that can be expected.

Liked Absolutely loved this site from the moment we pull up.
The staff are friendly and can't do enough for you.
Great little bar with a very nice pint.
The shop was great too.
There loads to do without leaving the site. We loved all the animals and had a great time feeding them.

Liked Amazing!! Our 2nd year staying here and we absolutely loved it once again, such a lovely chilled feel to the site you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere surrounded by forest however just a 15 min drive to Asda.

Josie & Ian are such amazing hosts and the staff are so friendly, despite Josie being quite Ill at the moment nothing was too much trouble for her, she carried on pleasing her guest. What a trooper.🫶

Can't wait to be back next year miss the crazy gang already 🥰

Disliked We arrived Monday we was off to a great start until she told up we had to pitch our 9m air tent on a what was supposed to be a universal hard standing pitch. However it was absolutely horrid kids couldn’t walk on the floor due to pebbles popping up and the tie wraps. Would not recommend unless you are on pitch 1-3 as these are grass and 4-8 are not. There is duck poo all over and even covering the park. So we left early

From the manager: When you made your booking back in March we only had grass ehu pitches.
April onwards we brought in a number of changes to our pitches.
Moving forward from then you can only book on pitchup exactly what you want. Pitch wise.
That said we have had many tents pitch on n over the hardstanding with no issues.
If you had come to discuss matters with us we would have suggested pitching directly behind your pitch on a grass area.
You claimed it was horrid yet did 3 out of your4 nights.
You score us low customer service but gave us nothing to manager. This is unfair.
We have free range geese. There is gonna be some mess.
This usually gets washed in boarding or pitches up when mowing. Neither of which we have had.
Agaiin though. There currently is no grass in the play area so the geese have spent far less time in there and there is no muck in play area.
We too have listened to some minority concerns and we are introducing a new play area, fenced in, in 2027.
We feel too that your other scores are unfair.
The location is beautiful, secluded and surrounded by forest.
We are still siting in the cheaper levels of the market despite offering far more than other sites
And as for cleanliness you contributed to your own judgement of us. In that the level of litter you left on your pitch was disgusting and not called for

Liked Lovely site, stayed here about 5 times. The owners are so lovely and such a welcoming environment. The animals are well cared for and friendly. Particularly the pink parrot that kept chirping at me to keep stroking its head.

Liked Our second year here. Absolutely love the place. Lovely working farm with a lake/pond u can fish and lots of ducks. Range of animals. Has toilets, shower blocks, small bar area and shop with few essentials to buy. Staff very friendly and so welcoming. Will be back next year.

Disliked I personally dont dislike anything. Each to their own. Internet signal can be a bit poor, no bother for me but some people with children may find that frustrating with kids not being able to survive without internet.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked The rustic, rule free approach. The animals are in the main, interesting and entertaining.
The ponds are great for fishing, (although the water level was a little bit low).
The pitches are fairly level and spacious.

Disliked The Geese are a problem in the sense that they soil wherever, and you do end up with dirty camping equipment.

Local attractions

Walkers, hikers, cyclists, energetic runners and nature spotters have Tuetoes Wood right beside Sunflower Park, the Forestry Commission-managed and publicly accessible part of vast Laughton Forest. If you're an avid animal fan, take time to get to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park just outside Doncaster, home to a menagerie of over 300 from around the world, and to The Deep at Hull, one of the biggest aquariums in the UK and a habitat for over 3000 marine critters. Going south, history buffs can get to Lincoln for 11th-century Lincoln Cathedral, the third biggest in Britain after St Paul's in London and York Minster. Lincoln Castle is also well worth a look, to gaze geekily upon one of the four original remaining copies of the Magna Carta.
