  • Peaceful farm site with pitches in a well-maintained orchard
  • On the edge of the Malvern Hills, 30 minutes' drive from Gloucester
  • Dog-friendly site; five minutes' drive from the motorway network
Beat a retreat from your workaday cares at Berrends Farm Caravan and Camp Site, a well-maintained spot close to where the Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire borders meet. With spacious pitches, quiet orchard surrounds and easy access to the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty all sorted, all that remains is for you to pack up your kit and drive over here – a task made splendidly straightforward by the fact that this site's a mere five-minute drive from the speedy M50. Once you've pulled up at this rural spot, you could spend days cloud-gazing in the orchard, tramping through the Malvern Hills (perhaps with a dog or two in tow) or visiting cathedral cities like Gloucester (30 minutes' drive) and Worcester (35 minutes). After jam-packed sightseeing jaunts (or days of nothing but sweet repose…), hungry stomachs can be satisfied with a barbecue on site or treated to chef-cooked grub at the nearest pub (40 minutes on foot or a five-minute drive). Provisions for self-prepped meals can be picked up in nearby Ledbury (15 minutes). As is expected when staying at a small-scale farm, here you can expect peace, quiet and splendid views, but you won't come back to base to find a chocolate on your pillow. Berrends Farm Caravan and Camp Site is relatively low on frills, but key facilities like composting toilets, showers and a washing-up area are all on hand.

Liked Booked 1 hr before arrival. - not many sites can accommodate this

a real working beautiful farm with animals

Everything felt unrestricted and free with a really pleasant owner making sure we were ok and thanking us for our business on arrival and departure

A feel of wanting to deliver an excellent service

Toilets and showers were clean that could do with an upgrade but this didn’t, detract from the enjoyment of staying there

Disliked None

Henri's Hut shepherd's hut

Liked The Shepards hut was lovely and cosy, came with all amenities that could be needed, owner of the site even provided a fan for the warm nights. Bed was comfortable and outside was a fire pit with some wood for a fire. Showers and toilets clean. This weekend away was exactly what I needed to help shut off. Added bonus was the baby farm animals further down the camping field. I had a lovely stay and most definitely will look at booking again in the future.

Liked Lovely little campsite. My family and I are new to camping and found the farm to be quiet and relaxing. Nothing is too much for the owner and he came around every day to check if all was ok which I thought was a nice touch. The toilets and showers were kept clean. When camping you can’t ask for anymore.

Liked Unrestricted hot water

Disliked The shed and porta cabin toilet facilities are insufficient for the number of guests. They were not clean in part because they were overloaded mainly because they are falling apart. When a girl walks out of the mens urinals as it was the only sink available and where the floor is collapsing you know things are desperate. And no-one knew where the fresh water taps were.
This site has had little or no effort put in and expecting normal prices.
The truth is had I not paid in advance I would not have stayed
Sunday morning was greeted with the 4x4 running in and out of the yard with a child driving.
I have stayed on many working farms and you accept working noise but this was unnecessary and just added to the feeling that guests are not a priority just an income

From the manager: Part of the comments is complete lies.

My office will be attempting to get it removed.

All water points are labelled.
Loos are regularly cleaned.

Toilets are only as good as the last person left them

Eg this weekend i did a check and found someone had been sick uk 1 toilet block wall.

There are signs requesting that anyone contacts us. No phone calls were recieved.

Maintenance is always happening.

This customer was clearly unhappy. Thanksfully he is in a VERY small minority.

Really annoyed that he lied in his comments. I have photos that prove he has lied. !!

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Lovely small relaxed feeling, clean site on a small farm. Gaffer was friendly and relaxed about arrival/departure times.

Pitch size was great. Could pitch up anywhere in the non-electric space, no designated spots. Our cocker loved it.

Disliked The kitchen & personal washing facilities were plentiful, however had a strong waste water odour and could be cleaner.

Liked Hosts were lovely, farms animals were a big hit! Pitches were nice and spacious!
Location was perfect for what we came to do.
We would come back if there were more toilets.

Disliked Toilets! - this is the only reason we wouldn’t come back. People were queuing to use the toilets. On our last morning one of the toilets became blocked which was a nightmare! Thankfully quite a few people were leaving but if the campsite was full it would have been horrendous!

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Simple and fairly peaceful, value for money. Easy to find. Working farm so animal noise to be expected.

Disliked Very basic ablutions - no feminine product bin was a pain and they could do with just 1 shelf in each shower room so you have somewhere to put your things.
The dogs on the farm are loose, just FYI if you have a reactive dog.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are a rural working farm that is running a small camp site.

I am not running a 5 star hotel. I not you actually booked the cheapest type of pitch.

Even some 5 star hotels dont have the femine bins.

There are many bins outside.

I have had cancer and now have a stoma bag.
I bag mine up and actually take it home. !

Local attractions

Set out for a recce of the Malvern Hills (five minutes' drive) and it shouldn't take long to find a spot to stretch your legs. Hollybush car park (10 minutes) is a pretty good place to start – here there are two scenic circular trails that can also be walked as a figure of eight if you're feeling energetic. It’s also half an hour to Symonds Yat for kayaking on the Wye, climbing and seeking out the peregrine falcons, goshawks and other raptors that breed on top of the rock. The Gloucester branch of the National Waterways Museum (30 minutes) is within a comfortable distance too if you'd prefer interactive exhibits and a narrowboat cruise. You'll likely want to be outdoors as much as poss when in these parts, so earmark some time for visits to Eastnor (10 minutes) and Goodrich castles (25 minutes). Trips over the border into Wales should also be on your radar if you're tempted to explore the overgrown ruins of Grosnor Castle (45 minutes), the handsome market town of Abergavenny (50 minutes) or the Brecon Beacons National Park (from 45 minutes).
