Berrends Farm Caravan and Camp Site: Pitch

General

  • Peaceful farm site with pitches in a well-maintained orchard
  • On the edge of the Malvern Hills, 30 minutes' drive from Gloucester
  • Dog-friendly site; five minutes' drive from the motorway network

Beat a retreat from your workaday cares at Berrends Farm Caravan and Camp Site, a well-maintained spot close to where the Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire borders meet.

With spacious pitches, quiet orchard surrounds and easy access to the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty all sorted, all that remains is for you to pack up your kit and drive over here – a task made splendidly straightforward by the fact that this site's a mere five-minute drive from the speedy M50.

Once you've pulled up at this rural spot, you could spend days cloud-gazing in the orchard, tramping through the Malvern Hills (perhaps with a dog or two in tow) or visiting cathedral cities like Gloucester (30 minutes' drive) and Worcester (35 minutes).

After jam-packed sightseeing jaunts (or days of nothing but sweet repose…), hungry stomachs can be satisfied with a barbecue on site or treated to chef-cooked grub at the nearest pub (40 minutes on foot or a five-minute drive). Provisions for self-prepped meals can be picked up in nearby Ledbury (15 minutes).

As is expected when staying at a small-scale farm, here you can expect peace, quiet and splendid views, but you won't come back to base to find a chocolate on your pillow. Berrends Farm Caravan and Camp Site is relatively low on frills, but key facilities like composting toilets, showers and a washing-up area are all on hand.

Being in the "pop-up" field with plenty of space. Nice level field - pitch where you like. The ever helpful Ben and his impeccable manners! Didn't feel crowded in the "basic" field despite being Bank Holiday Weekend.

Nice guy, very helpful. Good dog walks from the site. Good for Ledbury and Malvern

    Disliked:

Very Small pitches. Pretty rammed in for Bank Holiday. Snoring next to us kept us awake and we heard every word on their tv, we were that close. Sewage smell was quite strong. One shower for the site.

From the manager...

Thanks for booing.

Pitch sizes are stated on pitch up as 6 mtrs by 6mtrs

We ensure we give more than 6 x 6 mtrsthat and the car space is in addition.

sometimes we get people turn up with 8 + mtr tents never have we turned them away.

We try hard to make sure everyone is happily accommodated.

Sorry for snoring we must put that on the booking form to ensure they are in an area specially for snoring !!

The point point that is completely untrue is there is 2 shower blocks next to one another 1 shower 2 WC's 2 urinals and 3 hand basins

In the other shower block there is 1 WC 1 hand basin and 1 shower.

At no point during the busy bank holiday weekend was any facilities non operational.

Quiet location, helpful staff. Would have like access to a shower, but we booked very last minute and the main farm site was full. There was plenty of room despite it being bank holiday weekend and we loved BBQing in the peaceful sunset. The toilets were clean, rubbish collected, loved the pigs and horses. Even bumped into the owner in the local pub! Would definitely stay again.

From the manager...

Thanks so much for booking. Really really appreciate people leaving reviews especially good ones !!! And even ones with helpful criticism and comments

The really special thing with your review is that you were aware of what facilities the basic site didn't have. Too many people booked basic then complained about no showers.

We really look forward to welcoming you back.

Lovely little campsite, owners are very welcoming & friendly. Small site and was really busy when we stayed, which is to be expected in August but still very peaceful. Toilet blocks are clean & tidy. All in all a lovely stay.

    Disliked:

Pitch was small and felt like we were imposing on our neighbours as our Guy ropes were right up to their campervan which worried me that someone would trip in the dark trying to climb over them. However this would not put me off staying again as it is a lovely site but maybe at a less busy time.

From the manager...

Thanks for booking and your review.

Bank Holiday weekend was really busy.

If you are looking for a quiet time come avoiding the Bank Holidays or come from Sunday to Friday it is always very quiet. Friday and Saturday in school holidays we are full.

This weekend there is only a few and the rates are massively cheaper

We very much look forward to welcoming you in the future.

Local attractions

Set out for a recce of the Malvern Hills (five minutes' drive) and it shouldn't take long to find a spot to stretch your legs. Hollybush car park (10 minutes) is a pretty good place to start – here there are two scenic circular trails that can also be walked as a figure of eight if you're feeling energetic.

It’s also half an hour to Symonds Yat for kayaking on the Wye, climbing and seeking out the peregrine falcons, goshawks and other raptors that breed on top of the rock. The Gloucester branch of the National Waterways Museum (30 minutes) is within a comfortable distance too if you'd prefer interactive exhibits and a narrowboat cruise.

You'll likely want to be outdoors as much as poss when in these parts, so earmark some time for visits to Eastnor (10 minutes) and Goodrich castles (25 minutes). Trips over the border into Wales should also be on your radar if you're tempted to explore the overgrown ruins of Grosnor Castle (45 minutes), the handsome market town of Abergavenny (50 minutes) or the Brecon Beacons National Park (from 45 minutes).

Must see

  • Eastnor Castle (5.5 kilometres)
  • Tewkesbury Abbey (11.4 kilometres)
  • Malvern Hills (12.3 kilometres)

National Trust

  • Ashleworth Tithe Barn (9.3 kilometres)
