The thames head inn, between cirencester and tetbury
There's plenty of greenery around the site

  • Peaceful site on the edge of the Gloucestershire Cotswolds
  • 10 minutes’ drive from the towns of Cirencester and Tetbury
  • In the grounds of the Thames Head Inn bar-restaurant
Stunning landscapes, scenic market towns and the peace and quiet of the Cotswolds… How could you say no to that? At family-friendly site The Thames Head Inn, four miles from Cirencester market town in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds, you definitely won't want to miss the chance. Thames Head is well-placed for exploring the spectacular Cotswolds on foot or by bike – the start of the Thames Path, which follows the world-famous river for 184 miles from source to sea, is half a mile from the site, and there are loads of cycles tours and walking routes starting in Cirencester and Tetbury, both within 10 minutes’ drive of the site. If that's not your scene, kick back on the dog-friendly site in the shade of the trees, soaking in the scenic and peaceful Cotswolds countryside, or take a relaxed stroll through the fields with Rex. Worked up an appetite? The site is in the grounds of the Thames Head Inn bar-restaurant, where food is served well into the evening and the drinks keep flowing until closing (remember to book a table, as mealtimes can get very busy). If you fancy fending for yourself, pick up supplies in Cirencester or Kemble – a 20-minute walk away – and fire up the barbecue. For a change of scenery – and menus – there are plenty of restaurants within 10 minutes of Thames Head.

Liked: Proximity to the Thames Head Inn, a lovely, relaxing Pub, just a few minutes away by car to Cirencester and all it has to offer. The campsite has only a few plots, but the whole site is clean, tidy with well maintained facilities nearby. Highly recommended

Liked: Lovely location and attached to a great pub. We booked in for the evening menu which was really lovely, also plenty of choice on the specials board too. If you’re looking at exploring the source of the Thames then this is the place to do it from.

Disliked: Only one shower and toilet, but during our stay it was never busy. The nearby road can be a little noisy.

Liked: Friendly welcome.Well laid out.Proximity to the pub for good food and beer options.
Close (15mins walk) to the source of the Thames.Worth the short walk.

Disliked: If I was being picky.
Site has a shower+w/c room between 11 pitches.Would have preferred a separate w/c or a second w/c as occasionally there was a queue, but the facility was regularly cleaned.
No washing up facilities
Some road noise but not really an issue.

Liked: Nice quiet site eben though next to road and railway line, did not get disturbed at all. 11 pitches. Picnic tables set out to use in central grass area

Disliked: Only one toilet and shower. Both in same room, if someone needed toilet and shower was being used not ideal.
Bread delivery had been made and left in shower/toilet room!!! Need to arrange a different place for it to be left if nobody available to take in.

Got kids trailing along? Get the best of both worlds at Cotswold Wildlife Park and Garden – meet the giraffes, lions and camels, then wander through the gardens at the Victorian manor house. If that’s not hitting the spot, take the kids to learn more about the Romans at Corinium Museum in Cirencester or give them Harry Potter vibes on the Swindon and Cricklade steam railway. If all of this sounds a little too sedate for you, never fear...
