Liked Our 2nd time we have been to Barons cross, and was told that as from this November they have been given a compulsory order to leave as the owner has sold the land to make way for housing, it was very upsetting for the staff and for all that use the camping.

Liked Loved our plot, really nice place, staff in the reception was so friendly, and the young lady in the shop was so helpful and friendly.
Disliked The staff that cleaned the toilets needed a help during the weekend, as it was so busy for just the two of them, they did their upbest to keep them clean , shame that there wasn’t any steps down to the beach.

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review, Lisa. We are really pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay and loved your pitch. It is great to know Crows Nest was a good all round place to stay, and that the reception team and shop staff were so friendly and helpful. We appreciate your comments regarding the toilets during a busy weekend. We have our regular cleaning team in place and they are well versed in keeping the facilities clean, although they can come under heavy use at peak times between checks. We are sorry there are no steps down to the beach, but as a cliff top site this is not something we are able to provide. The cliff naturally erodes every year, so creating and maintaining direct beach access would not be practical or safe. Thank you for recommending us, and we hope to welcome you back again.

Liked The staff are very friendly and always had time and a smile, the food is first rate, wish we could have stayed another day, the owner’s had only taken over the place a few months ago, and already word had got around and Saturday night the inn was packed to the ceiling. Our pitch looked out onto fields, the owners are still trying to sort out, with a bit of patience they will get there, there is a nice little play area for the children, we will definitely be back.
Disliked We didn’t dislike anything as we know its in working progress.

Liked The weather was perfect
Disliked Totality disorganised, the toilets were dirty, smelled, only one out of 5 worked, rubbish all around the bins, could only find 2 stand pipes for the whole of the site, no staff checking the site to make sure all was ok, no one took any notice regarding no fires, grass was dry. Will never book there again.

Liked Toilets and showers that we had were very clean.
Disliked Not enough showers or toilets for the whole site, boiler down, no hot water in ladies toilets all week, pitch very uneven, and very close together, but the staff very polite and friendly, a lot of dead trees around the site, was concerned as we had very windy conditions.

Liked Was shocked to find that when we got to the spot, a quarter of the field was coned off and a very large party, adults and children, were going in and out of each others tents, not one of the party had face masks on when they were going in and out of the tents, I know that Avon camping had only been open for a month, but to let this happen was terrible, needless to say we will never go back there again. 😡

From the manager: Dear Lisa, I'm sorry to hear that you had this experience when staying with us, all campers have been told to respect the government guidelines and that they should only be camping in groups of 6 or, 'per household' which can go beyond 6. The large family you referred to insisted they were from one household, as a manager we cannot police the movement of every individual customer 24hrs a day, we took it in good faith that the customer was telling the truth, I'm sure this misunderstanding was perfectly innocent but thank you for your concerns. Many Thanks Again,

Disliked Didn’t live upto the photos, site said dog friendly, but more like dog tolerated, owner said that we would have to drive about 6 miles and then we could let the dog of to have a blast up a hill, when we walked off site into the small village,
just round the corner from the site, there was a public foot path where dogs are allowed off lead to have a run around, as long as you don’t go near the sheep, this was told to us by a local who had dogs with her.

From the manager: So sorry you didn’t like the thought of the area that we use to exercise our own dogs off lead which is 2-3 miles away. The riverside walk you mentioned, when I used it recently, had sheep in every field so was loathe to recommend it as a dog run. We love dogs, but they do have to stay on lead on site. The photos do not lie, they are not professionally taken, but I do take more on sunny days.
