Stay in the location of your favourite TV shows

Aug 20 2013 Posted by Samantha Marsh

As autumn approaches and new series of TV favourites get set to return Pitchup.com looks at locations around the UK where visitors can feel like they are on a TV set.

Downton Abbey

Posh campers may like to enjoy the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside, setting of the popular TV drama Downton Abbey.  Many of the outdoor scenes were filmed around the village of Bampton and just five miles down the road is award winning campsite Lincoln Farm Park.  This upmarket site offers 90 individually-spaced, all-weather pitches set around nine acres of beautiful landscaped gardens.  All the family are welcome including dogs (Pharoah and Isis would approve).  Attention to detail at the site is apparent: the shower and toilet facilities are built in Cotswold stone and there is a range of excellent facilities including an indoor leisure centre, two pools, spas, saunas, steam room, children’s pool, putting green, outdoor chess and a shop.  There’s even an old phone box next to the resident guinea pigs and chickens.  Pitches at the site start from £19.30 per night.

Broadchurch

Wannabe detectives might enjoy a stay at Graston Copse Holiday Park in Dorset, just a few miles from where crime drama Broadchurch was filmed, using locations including Harbour Cliff Bay, West Cliff and The Folly at West Quay.  Graston Copse is a quiet and peaceful site surrounded by stunning countryside and quintessentially English villages.  The park is a wildlife lover’s paradise with opportunities to spot water voles, kingfishers and woodpeckers.  There are simple and basic facilities at Graston Copse including free hot showers and a tourist information point.  Guests can also pay to use the facilities as Graston Copse’s two sister sites, Golden Cap and Highlands End holiday parks.  Pitches start from £15 per night.

Doctor Who

After all the furore surrounding the announcement of the new Doctor Who, it’s hard to imagine anyone who wouldn’t want to visit some of the locations of previous series.  The best place to see all of this and more is at the Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff.  Just a few miles from Cardiff is Happy Jakes Touring Park.  This site is relatively peaceful and lies in an ideal position from which to explore Wales and the south Welsh coast and countryside.  The park welcomes all types of vehicles including motorhomes, caravans, trailer tents and tents.  Pitches start from £7 per night.

Sherlock

The popular series of Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch is set to return this autumn so why not get in the mood by visiting Dartmoor, setting of the 2012 Sherlock version of The Hounds of Baskerville.  Dartmoor Shepherds Huts is located within Dartmoor National Park and offer a choice of accommodation including tents, bell tents and shepherd’s huts.  Dogs are welcome.  Pitches start from £14 per night.
