General

  • Small and peaceful park a few steps from the beach
  • Spectacular sea views over to Jura and Islay
  • Wildlife and birdwatching haven

It's only a few steps from your accommodation to the beaut beach of Muasdale Holiday Park on the west coast of Kintyre: your dog will surely be delighted.

As will scenery seekers: 'perfect', 'stunning' and 'beautiful' are just a few of the plaudits piled on the spectacular sea scenery from this park, along with an observation from one chuffed former guest wondering who would need a telly when pitching up here…?

Muasdale is a small, peaceful and family-run park midway between Tarbert and Campbelltown, and in a coastal locale of splendid scenery, right on the beach with striking vistas over to the islands of Islay, Jura and Gigha. The ferries are a short drive from the site for days of island-hopping; you can even get over to Ballycastle and Northern Ireland for the day via the Isle of Islay.

As you might reckon, this is wildlife and birdwatching heaven, with seals, otters and springtime nesting birds on the beach, more seals in the surrounding waters, and many a seabird overhead. It's fishing land too, so bring your kit with you.

Supplies can be picked up at two large supermarkets in Campbelltown, and at the shop of Glenbarr three miles away, which also has a small garden centre, a café and free wifi. The local bus stop 100 yards from the site runs to Campbeltown and Tarbert Taynloan to meet up with the Gigha ferry, or Kennacraig to meet up with the Islay ferry; this is also the main bus to Glasgow.

And then there are the sunsets around here: take a minute now and sigh happily over those site pics...

Please note

Group bookings of 4 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Quirky site in good spot. 01/11/2018

Storm lodge was very cosy and had everything that we required. The view is lovely and the provision of binoculars is a real bonus.
We were booked to be in a Micro-pod for the first night, but we kindly upgraded to the lodge - initially I was reluctant, (wanting the beach-front experience), but with hindsight, it was a much more comfortable option and was greatly appreciated.

    Disliked:

The couple that own/run the site are obviously very busy, but I would have expected a bit more of a welcome and introduction to the lodge, (I never really figured out how to use the hob). Also, I felt that the owner was a little discouraging about us using the hot-tub - this seems to be in contrast to other people's experience, so maybe it was for our own good. In the end, the fact that the tub's water had a bit of an oily film on the surface was enough to persuade us to keep out, but I still felt a little let down.

On our departure, we had to leave the keys with another site resident and this seemed to sum up our relationship with the site staff - not unfriendly, but not really interested in us.

Everything. The location is stunning. The site is small and really well kept. The facilities are perfect. Great shower. Clean toilets and a fridge for anyone to use which proved very useful as our fridge packed in. The site is well lit. There are fire pits for guests to use and plenty of wood at a reasonable price. White sand beach. Grey seals, otters, a plethora of seabirds and a sparrow hawk.

Friendliness of everyone we encountered in Kintyre. Nothing lacking at the site. We got exactly what we anticipated. Pitched immediately next to the beach. Beautiful sea views and sunsets.

    Disliked:

Proximity of the main Campbeltown road but passing traffic did not disturb our sleep and we quickly tuned it out. The lack of a main gate to contain children would determine us from bringing young ones.

Local attractions

Get ready to go a-sailing… and along to Campbeltown for regular boat trips to Ailsa Craig, Sanda Island and around the peninsula for wildlife and whale watching. On damp days, take the kids to seek refuge at the small soft play, the swimming pool or the oldest cinema in Scotland. Forest and hill walks are a short distance from the site.

A boat also goes to Ballycastle from here via Islay: from there, take a ferry back over water to reach the fab and tiny RSPB reserve of Rathlin Island (here there be puffins).

Are you a golfer? And if so, have you ever hit a ball over the Atlantic? If your responses here were first Aye and then a wistful Nay, take the tees to Machrihanish Golf Club above the northern tip of the Mull of Kintyre to try it out. Several other golf courses are in the area once this has whetted your golfing whistle: try Carradale and Dunaverty to start things off.

This is also whisky land, with the two distilleries of Glen Scotia and Springbank in Campbelltown. Both have gift shops (huzzah) and run regular tours.
