General

  • Small and peaceful park a few steps from the beach
  • Spectacular sea views over to Jura and Islay
  • Wildlife and birdwatching haven

It's only a few steps from your accommodation to the beaut beach of Muasdale Holiday Park on the west coast of Kintyre: your dog will surely be delighted.

As will scenery seekers: 'perfect', 'stunning' and 'beautiful' are just a couple of the plaudits piled on the spectacular sea scenery from this park, along with an observation from one chuffed former guest pointing out who would need a telly when pitching up here…?

Muasdale is a small, peaceful and family-run park midway between Tarbert and Campbelltown, and in a coastal locale of splendid scenery, set right on the beach with striking vistas over to the islands of Islay, Jura and Gigha. The ferries are a short drive from the site for spending days island hopping; you can even get over to Ballycastle and Northern Ireland for the day via the Isle of Islay.

As you might reckon, this is wildlife and birdwatching heaven, with seals, otters and springtime nesting birds on the beach, more seals in the surrounding waters, and many a seabird overhead. It's firm fishing land too, so bring your kit with you.

The well-maintained park facilities include a shower block with two wash basins and private ladies' and gents' washing areas. A washing-up area, chemical toilet and waste water disposal areas, and recycling facilities are also on site.

Supplies can be picked up at two large supermarkets in Campbelltown, and at the shop of Glenbarr three miles away, which also has a small garden centre, a café and free wifi. The local bus stop 100 yards from the site runs to Campbeltown and Tarbert Taynloan to meet up with the Gigha ferry, or Kennacraig to meet up with the Islay ferry. This is also the main bus to Glasgow.

And then there are the sunsets around here: take a minute now and sigh happily over those site pics.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

This was a lovely small site, exactly what we were looking for. The toilets/showers and kitchen areas were very clean, although we didn't use them. The site is set right on the beach, and the pitches are each equipped with benches for your own use. There was even buckets/spades and nets for the kids to use. We were met on site on arrival and made to feel very welcome. The beach is lovely and being right on the doorstep made It all the better, watching the sun set and the kids playing, you can't buy that feeling!.
I would definitely recommend if you want a nice relaxing quiet holiday, and there is lots round about to do and see.
Only thing for us was the grass was a bit churned up which was a bit difficult to manoeuvre through. Wi Fi/TV connection was not good but this didn't spoil things one little bit.

Simplicity and excellence combined! 30/09/2017

The views over beach and sea from the tent, the fact there was a hair dryer, fridge and clean facilities, water taps also close to the pitches, and the best thing was that portable fire pits were available for our use, and we could by a bag of firewood with kindling at a fiver: Sitting by the fire on the beach with a glass of red let us enjoy the sunsets over Islay/Jura even more!

    Disliked:

Only 4 instead of 5 stars as it is simply a fenced-in patch of grass by the road, but with hardly any traffic, so it didn't really disturb.
Another slight minus is that footpaths/ cycle paths aren't that developed right where the campsite is; one is better off with a car to get to cycle or hiking start points.

Unfortunately I had a very bad cold when we arrived here, but fortunately it was the ideal place to recover. Site is well kept, clean toilets and shower area (showers are free). Small kitchen area which was ideal for washing up your dishes. Parked right at the edge of the beach with the most beautiful sun sets and rises. This campsite is quite near the road but I can honestly say we had no problem at all sleeping. Not only did we enjoy this beautiful site but our dog, Bailey loved it lots of wide open space for him to run around in. If your looking for a stop over or a few peaceful days this is the site to book. Very peaceful campsite and would definitely return and will certainly recommend to other motorhome owners.

Returned from a short stay in a mini pod. The proprietors were lovely people and the mini pod was very cosy and ample for our needs. A beautiful location being so close to the beach and very peaceful. Even the main road isn't very noisy and didn't disturb us at all. The area does tend to have it's own micro climate, but that just adds to the appeal. I would definitely go again without any hesitation and would recommend to anyone who wishes a totally relaxing break.

Local attractions

Get ready to go a-sailing… and along to Campbelltown for regular boat trips to Ailsa Craig, Sanda Island and around the peninsula for wildlife and whale watching.

A fast boat also goes to Ballycastle from here via Islay: from there, take a ferry back over water to reach the fab and tiny RSPB reserve of Rathlin Island (here there be puffins).

Are you a golfer? And if so, have you ever hit a ball over the Atlantic? If your response was first Aye and then a wistful Nay, take the tees to Machrihanish Golf Club above the northern tip of the Mull of Kintyre to try it out. Several other golf courses are in the area once this has whetted your golfing whistle: try Carradale and Dunaverty to start things off.

This is also whisky land, with the two distilleries of Glen Scotia and Springbank in Campbelltown. Both have gift shops (huzzah) and run regular tours.

Cycle routes
