General

  • Small and peaceful park a few steps from the beach
  • Spectacular sea views over to Jura and Islay
  • Wildlife and birdwatching haven

It's only a few steps from your accommodation to the beaut beach of Muasdale Holiday Park on the west coast of Kintyre: your dog will surely be delighted.

As will scenery seekers: 'perfect', 'stunning' and 'beautiful' are just a couple of the plaudits piled on the spectacular sea scenery from this park, along with an observation from one chuffed former guest pointing out who would need a telly when pitching up here…?

Muasdale is a small, peaceful and family-run park midway between Tarbert and Campbelltown, and in a coastal locale of splendid scenery, set right on the beach with striking vistas over to the islands of Islay, Jura and Gigha. The ferries are a short drive from the site for spending days island hopping; you can even get over to Ballycastle and Northern Ireland for the day via the Isle of Islay.

As you might reckon, this is wildlife and birdwatching heaven, with seals, otters and springtime nesting birds on the beach, more seals in the surrounding waters, and many a seabird overhead. It's firm fishing land too, so bring your kit with you.

The well-maintained park facilities include a shower block with two wash basins and private ladies' and gents' washing areas. A washing-up area, chemical toilet and waste water disposal areas, and recycling facilities are also on site.

Supplies can be picked up at two large supermarkets in Campbelltown, and at the shop of Glenbarr three miles away, which also has a small garden centre, a café and free wifi. The local bus stop 100 yards from the site runs to Campbeltown and Tarbert Taynloan to meet up with the Gigha ferry, or Kennacraig to meet up with the Islay ferry. This is also the main bus to Glasgow.

And then there are the sunsets around here: take a minute now and sigh happily over those site pics.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

    Location, Location, Location!
    Right above beach!
Beautiful sunsets on 2 of the 3 nights we spent there.
The fact that we were the only dirty people on site i.e. no one else used the showers and left them for us.
Facilities were clean and perfectly adequate.
Pitch Fees, but being realistic, to keep this site they need to put up their prices to remain viable. It was full every night so presumably there is scope for this although it may be off-season for some people?

    Disliked:

Road Noise, but nothing they can do about that. I don't suppose the lorries would like to be forced to use the Carradale Road?
Wifi was poor, even in the Washing up area.

    Could not get to campsite.

    Disliked:

After getting off Islay ferry at 10.15pm.(Owners of campsite were aware of late arrival.) We were stopped by roadworks about 7 miles from campsite and told we could not be escorted through until 12 pm. The man in charge of the roadworks said that it had been known for at least a week that the closure would be in place. No one from Musdale had bothered to inform us. We had no option but to turn around. Ended up sleeping in a lay-by near Inverarry. When I phoned campsite next day woman on phone very unhelpful. She just put the phone down!

From the manager...

I am very sorry you were unable to get to our campsite. This despite there being an alternative route to Campbelltown via the B842 from the Skipness road end turn-off or by waiting in a layby until the next convoy was allowed through. If you had attempted to call us from the ferry terminal on arrival or before you left islay we would have been able to advise you better than we are open at all times, as you can see from the photos we are a very small site and have no barriers to prevent access. As you had said previously we were aware you were coming late but did not know that you hadn't noticed the several notices and signs about the roadworks.
There are details of the road closure on traffic Scotland website Calmac website and there are large signs displaying information about the road closures and times of the convoys through. the roadworks at the ferry terminal entrance that have been there for some time.
There are several other campsites between the ferry terminal and Inverary that you may have found more comfortable rather than a layby.
may I also apologise for putting the phone down on your call as a woman I find it unacceptable that I should be shouted at in an abusive manner when I tried to explain the circumstances.of the no refund policy. if however, you had listened to my explanation you would have heard that I offer an alternative date to visit for no extra cost as I offer most of our customers who contact us with a reason why they cant attend.
if you wish to discuss this matter further in calm courtoues manner I would be happy to.

This is a great wee site. Brilliant location right next to the beach, looking over to Gigha, Islay and Jura. Brilliant value for money, only £15 per night with hook up!

Great for a variety of wildlife, most notably a colony of seals that live on the rocks just 100m or so off the beach.

Toilets and showers on site were lovely and clean. There’s even free WiFi.

    Thoroughly recommend this site.

Local attractions

Get ready to go a-sailing… and along to Campbelltown for regular boat trips to Ailsa Craig, Sanda Island and around the peninsula for wildlife and whale watching.

A fast boat also goes to Ballycastle from here via Islay: from there, take a ferry back over water to reach the fab and tiny RSPB reserve of Rathlin Island (here there be puffins).

Are you a golfer? And if so, have you ever hit a ball over the Atlantic? If your response was first Aye and then a wistful Nay, take the tees to Machrihanish Golf Club above the northern tip of the Mull of Kintyre to try it out. Several other golf courses are in the area once this has whetted your golfing whistle: try Carradale and Dunaverty to start things off.

This is also whisky land, with the two distilleries of Glen Scotia and Springbank in Campbelltown. Both have gift shops (huzzah) and run regular tours.
