  • Relaxed and spacious site with views towards Dartmoor
  • Within easy reach of Torbay's beaches and Dartmoor National Park
  • Paignton Zoo, aquarium, seaside towns and more a short drive away
For a sweet-as break on a working farm, head to family-friendly Treacle Valley Campsite in the tiny village of Daccombe, between Dartmoor National Park to the west and more than 20 English Riviera beaches towards the east. This is a top spot for all ages: kids will be kept occupied at the play area or on all the wide open space around the accommodation area, and walks to the village through the surrounding countryside start right from the pitches. Treacle Valley's café/shop stocks all the basics you might need while you're on your hols, and provides a handy and free freezer block service in case you want to pack up a hamper with bubbly (possibly accompanied by a few sandwiches) and head out for the day. When you get hungry you're more than welcome to fire up the barbie or cook up something tasty over your campfire – for anything more substantial, head into one of the nearby seaside towns for supermarkets, seafood restaurants, fish and chip takeaways and posh pub grub. The nearest pub is a 20-minute walk away.

What customers say

Treacle Valley's got a laid-back vibe and ripper country views. Campers raved about the clean loos and showers, plus fire pits. Staff are helpful. While most loved picking their own spot and the peace, some found it a bit hilly and noisy at times. Great value, reckon many will head back.

Roof tent unpowered grass site

Liked Not a lot, the view was good. Toilets and showers were reasonable.

Disliked Not enough washing up facilities for the amount of people on site, too crammed and busy, lots of noise fairly late at night, generally quite rough and a real strong bad smell of pig shit. Was advertised as bing flat but was very much on a hill and we struggled to get a flat spot to pitch our roof tent.

Unpowered grass campervan site

Liked We arrived to a warm and friendly welcome by the staff who provided us with a fabulous detailed list of directions to specific destinations which was invaluable.

The campsite was idyllic, set in a beautiful location hugged by the surrounding hills. It was challenging to find a flat area to pitch. However, with levelling wedges firmly in place, our second night was much more comfortable.

There were lots of young families and facilities for the children to play. The toilets were highly clean, well resourced with toilet roll and soap, and offered free showers with an abundance of hot water. They were lush.

Overall, it was a great campsite. Some younger families enjoyed staying up until the early hours drinking socialising, and laughing. So it wasn't the quietest camping experience however, once they left, the whole experience transformed into a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. We had a wonderful time and our four spaniels were so calm, quiet and well behaved on their fist camping trip, we shall take them again.

Disliked It was challenging to find a spot level to pitch on. We bought levelling car wedges to help level our VW so we didn't slip down the bed during the night.

Having used a number of more expensive camp sites with limiting stricter rules, Treacle Valley was a very much appreciated breath of fresh air.

Unpowered grass campervan site

Liked Lovely farm site. Lots of spaces to choose from. Nice clean showers and toilets. Fire puts available and logs available for a small fee.
Small park for the children to play in. Lots of space for the children to play

Disliked Not the sites fault at all but horrid s bend that the sat nav takes you to. Might be worth calling for directions avoiding that way if you have a large van or are not the most confident driver

Local attractions

For stuff to do nearby, try a visit to the historic village of Cockington, three miles away, where there's a manor house and a cricket ground plus some 16th-century thatched stone cottages and a traditional pub serving cream teas. The award-winning caves of Kents Cavern – once home to prehistoric humans – are also within easy reach of Treacle Valley; this subterranean network lies close to some spectacularly scenic coastal areas with several walking routes along Torbay's UNESCO Global Geopark – one of only seven in the UK. A walk around Babbacombe coves and cliffs begins at Anstey's Cove (opposite Kents Cavern), to wind its way along a scenic track and bring you out into the pretty village of Babbacombe in Torquay; take a ride on the famed Babbacombe Cliff Railway, then follow up with a wander around four acres of award-winning gardens showcasing hundreds of model scenes and railways at Babbacombe Model Village. Take the kids on an animal adventure at Paignton Zoo (20 minutes) or visit the seaside towns of Torquay (15 minutes), Paignton (20 minutes), Brixham (half an hour), Shaldon (15 minutes) or Teignmouth (20 minutes) for miniature golf, arcades, ice cream shops and beaches.
