  • Quiet rural site on a working farm 10 minutes' drive from Honiton
  • A 15-minute drive from Seaton, Sidmouth and the South West Coast Path
  • Farm shop and tea room on site for homemade meals and takeaway food
Foodies who fancy a farm break, step this way… Bovey's Down Farm is a place where it’s possible to eat very well indeed. This rural site on a working beef farm in the East Devon National Landscape, 10 minutes’ drive from Honiton. And with that setting comes some splendid feasting material: pick up home-cooked cakes, pies, traditional pasties and homemade burgers from the farmhouse kitchen to eat at the picnic area, or settle in for drinks, lunches, cream teas and evening meals in the tea room or beer garden. You can also acquire bread, ribeye steaks and gluten-free sausages from the site for an evening barbecue or campfire brekkie. Once suitably fed and watered, there’s plenty to do nearby: you can get down to the Devon coast (and the resorts of Sidmouth and Seaton) in about 15 minutes’ drive, get out and about for walks/bike rides on the many country lanes and bridleways in the area or play a round of golf a couple of miles away. Getting a taste of farm life is pretty straightforward too: guests can join owner Gerald for a walking tour to meet the Aberdeen Angus cattle, ducks and hens and pick up tips on the wildlife that can be spotted around the place (lots of birdlife and the occasional fox or badger…) Facilities on site include toilets, showers, a washing-up area and a wifi connection to help you plan all those days out.

What customers say

Great family farm site with ace views & super hosts. Spotless loos, tasty tucker, chill vibes. Some slopes & mud in rain, but it's getting better with new pitches. A bit of road noise & rowdy campers heard, but still a top pick for the price & friendly feel.

Liked All the staff where amazing down at the swallow's nest and were so friendly.
Toilets were clean but basic, could do with a few more.
We were located in the ' wedding field' so we had no neighbors and our own little private pitch, which was amazing! Great Views too. Food was good however a little pricey, but worth it!

Disliked Some noisy groups on the campsite in general, which can't be helped but does effect the holiday. Grass was really really long in our area, which meant I got a tick! but I would come again.

From the manager: Hi, Thank you for your review & feed back. So sorry about the grass being longer in some areas but the mower broke down last week & your area was left uncut We were not made aware of any noisy group, if we had known the farmer would have been straight there and sorted things as we do have an 11pm curfew. We do live on site so can take action over noise & complaints.

We look forward to seeing you back again.

Liked Rural site within driving distance of Seaton ,Sidmouth and Honiton areas
Quality of food and drinks excellent
Lovely friendly staff, clean site.
Loos are mixed sex use, but secure and safe
Fridge freezer and microwave for use.
A lot of love and thought has gone into this set up. Credit to them …

Disliked Not dislike, but the pitch numbering with boundary posted requires updating, numbers have faded, a couple of times found people trying to work out there site boundaries, but on the whole not to be put off, just ask and think it will be improved in course.
Can be noisy if near top field with traffic going by,
Wi-Fi a little sketchy in top field but didn’t rely on it for use,
we would return as excellent little experience

Liked A gorgeous campsite with really friendly staff and all the facilities you could need. Showers, toilets and washing up stations were solid, and the on-site cafe was really handy. We also really enjoyed the cider brewed on-site (we may have gotten through a few flagons of it during our stay!), the provision of a firepit and logs, and the easy access to lots of local attractions.
Also, a bonus shout out to the pheasant who kept us company on our first few nights, a very fine fellow indeed!

Disliked The pitches are a little slopey, due to the nature of the site so plan accordingly.

Local attractions

Once you’ve met the animals on site, get set to say hi to some more furry pals at The Donkey Sanctuary (10 minutes’ drive) before greeting some rather more exotic beasts at Axe Valley Wildlife Park (20 minutes) and Yarak Birds of Prey (half an hour). Trading countryside for coast is a fine idea for a day or two as well – it’ll take you around 15 minutes to drive down to Seaton or Sidmouth for beach days, paddles and strolls on the South West Coast Path. Lovely Lyme Regis (25 minutes) is another fab option – sign up for fishing trips here and you might be lucky enough to take home a fistful of mackerel for tea. Got a bit more time to fill? How about a day of horse riding (five minutes), floral wanders at Burrow Farm Gardens (20 minutes) and Bicton Park Botanical Gardens (25 minutes) or a whole heap of outdoor rides, indoor soft play areas and shows at Crealy Theme Park (half an hour)? Lyme Bay Winery is 20 minutes away too, should you need a tipple to go with your evening barbecue…
