  • Peaceful and secluded 200-acre farm site on the river Lynher
  • A 10-minute drive from Saltash or 20 minutes from Looe
  • Pitch up wild-style anywhere on site or opt for field with facilities
What a cracking corner of Cornwall this is: make a break for Bush Farm Wild Camping if you fancy peaceful times spent lounging by the Lynher river. There's certainly no shortage of space at this 200-acre site – woodland walks, strolls through green fields and waterside wanders by rivers and lakes are all on offer here. This family-friendly spot is a fab site to bring the kids to, especially if they're avid nature fans: these wild grounds are always rustling with local birds and beasts, and you can keep an eye out for the farm's friendly horses and dogs as well. When you roll up at this green and grassy spot, you'll be given a map and left to settle down wherever you please. Don't fancy trekking to get to the loo and showers? Opt for the main site instead and pitch up closer to the farm’s creature comforts. Off-site jaunts are also easily arranged in this well-connected part of the world – Saltash and the gorgeous river Tamar are 10 minutes' drive away, while Plymouth, on the other side of the Devon-Cornwall border, can be reached in about 25 minutes. Well-behaved dogs are welcome here. The Bush Farm Wild Camping crew are happy for you to light up a barbecue or firepit and can sort you out with bags of wood to help you get the flames flickering in no time.

What customers say

Bush Farm: great wild camping on a working farm by a river. Freedom to pick your spot, friendly staff & nature galore. Basic but clean facilities incl. hot showers. Some uneven ground & noise possible. One guest had a less-than-ideal staff interaction.

Liked Freedom to park anywhere, so much space you can avoid people. We ended up on hill side which did limit where you could actually pitch due to slope, another time I think I would explore flatter option in fields along river.

If we had arrived earlier I may have spent more time driving around and exploring options,

Fire pits to use - no fee

To know that they were available to give a tow out if needed, it’s great to pitch where you like but potential to get stuck when not very experienced driving a new big heavy van

Liked I'd been following Bush Farm on Facebook for a few years, so I was really pleased to finally get the chance to visit with me and the dog.

If you're looking for glamping, hot tubs, fairy lights and someone to fluff your pillows, this probably isn't the place for you. But if you like proper camping, fresh air, and the feeling that you've escaped the modern world for a bit, it's fantastic.

The site has a great layout, plenty of space, and a beautiful river that my dog seemed to think had been installed purely for his entertainment. I spent far more time than I'd like to admit just sitting by the water doing absolutely nothing productive.

I also treated myself to a pizza, which was excellent. Nothing quite beats sitting outdoors with a good pizza after a day of wandering about pretending you're far more outdoorsy than you really are.

What I loved most was how back-to-basics it all is. No unnecessary fuss, no gimmicks, just a brilliant wild camping experience in a lovely setting. It's not for everyone, and that's exactly why it's so good.

I'll definitely be back and hopefully I’ll bring some friends.

Liked Had the best experience, Stuart was so friendly and helpful, especially when I lit my first campfire. The place is very rustic, very remote and just the tonic

Disliked How dusty my car got but that didn’t outway the experience and would go back
Could do with hot water in the sink

Local attractions

After a couple of days on this vast family farm, you'll probably be a dab hand at finding your way around a fair few of its 200 acres. Put those navigation skills to the test at The Amazing Cornish Maize Maze (five minutes' drive), a fiendishly tricky labyrinth that's planted in a different layout each summer. Adrenaline Quarry (20 minutes), an adventurous activities centre, has more family-friendly options to keep the small sorts on side. Grownups who fancy a break from DIY-style stays can indulge in a proper pampering at St. Mellion Estate (10 minutes), a posh Cornish resort with a top-notch golf course and soothing spa. Once your aches and pains have melted away, take a blissful saltwater bath at Whitsand Bay (20 minutes), or head to Looe harbour for wine by the sea and sunset strolls. The inimitable Eden Project (45 minutes) has been a mainstay of Cornish hols since it opened the doors to its domes back in 2001 – budding botanists and eager environmentalists will definitely want to make the trip.
