  • Rural site on the edge of a quiet Kent village in green countryside
  • A quarter of an hour from Deal by car; Broadstairs 30 minutes
  • Easy access from the A256; playground in the village
Set down on the edge of a quiet Kentish village… on the outskirts of Tilmanstone, The Plough and Harrow has friendliness down to an art. And if that isn’t already a good start, it's close to the south coast, with seaside spots like Deal (15 minutes' drive) and Broadstairs (half an hour) within striking distance. One thing’s for sure, you can look forward to a laidback break here exploring Kent's seascapes – or relax in the knowledge that you have quick and easy access to the cross-Channel ferries at Dover. The Plough and Harrow is a quiet site with simple facilities, including toilets and showers. It's just off the A256, so it won't take long to get yourself somewhere interesting along the Kent coast. While there aren't many more amenities in the village, there is a kids' playground, and nearby Sandwich (10 minutes' drive to the north) has a small but well-stocked supermarket, a handful of independent cafés and good public transport links, including a mainline railway station.

What customers say

A friendly, clean, handy small site, great for Dover ferry/Eurotunnel stopovers. Facilities are good, if basic. Pub's handy but check opening times. A bit of road noise and sloped pitches for some. Good value for your onward trip.

Liked A nice small campsite, with toilets, showers, and a washing-up area, all with ample cleaning supplies.
I missed the call to check my check-in time, but headed to the site once I had finished at Walmer Castle and was quickly greeted by Tracey, who showed me my pitch and asked if it would be ok.
I knew when booking back in April that the pub would be closed, so I was able to make plans to keep my own food in a coolbox / found places to have a main meal in Deal.

Not for anyone who likes / needs silence to sleep, due to proximity to bypass

Disliked Nothing - will be booking again I am sure

Camping pod

Liked The pod was exceptionally clean with such a cosy welcoming vibe. We loved that we had the camping chairs to use outside as well as the benches. The hosts were so friendly and accommodating. We will definitely be coming back again.

Liked Really cool little camping place. Super for our 5 year old on his first camp trip. Owners were lovely, polite and really interested in our feedback.
Toilets and showers, very clean, we noticed cleaned by owners more than once a day. Pride in their facilities. 👍
Massive shame they cannot open the pub.

Disliked Nothing we didn't like.

Liked The site was small but still space between pitches.
The two toilets and two showers were all good and very clean.
( It was never too busy or a problem with just two of each)
( The showers were unbelievably powerful ).

There's 10 pitches , and great for a weekend or overnight stay.
We had a T5 Camper on the bank holiday weekend, but lots of room for bigger campers or Car / Caravan.
It was a quiet little site too.
Great location to visit Deal, Margate, Ramsgate, Canterbury.

We were arriving late, so the owners kindly rang us and told us which number pitch to set up on and then came and checked everything was ok in the morning with us.

We mentioned about no lighting at the entrance and this was addressed within hours the same day.
The owners were friendly and helpful.
We would and will definitely be staying at this site again.

Disliked I've put this in here just for others to note.
The Pub was shut, and we were told that in advance, so it was not a problem to us as we were not staying here for the pub or because of the Pub.
( we would of used it if it had been open though ).

Liked Nothing on this occasion.

Disliked We booked a campervan pitch for a repeat visit to this particular pub because of its proximity to the port and so that we could park up and enjoy a meal and a few drinks in the pub. However, we arrived to find that the pub is closed for business!

The owner was nowhere to be seen and so i emailed to express disappointment that there had been no prior notification of the closure, and to ask for a refund because we had been misled and therefore decided to drive onto an alternative more suitable site.

The owner's response was bizarre to say the least - everyone's fault but his own i.e., the local community for not supporting him, Keir Starmer and his financial policies, budget holidaymakers (seems to be having a go at the camping fraternity with that one), and us for not providing a correct phone number (not true).

Anyway, he declined a refund and so all we can say is don't book here if a pre ferry meal/drink is your thing.

Local attractions

Get to know the local haunts… with a pretty promenade and pebbly beach, Deal (15 minutes’ drive) has independent shops, galleries and museums in no short stock. And while Sandwich (10 minutes) might be slightly smaller, medieval life is well-preserved here, with town tours and river trips some of the ways to take in the place properly. Indeed, all these Kentish towns have their fair share of activities… perhaps you’ll want to go for a day's surfing in Broadstairs (30 minutes) or venture into Canterbury (half an hour) to see a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the famed cathedral. Its medieval core has a good bit of history, as do Dover Castle (20 minutes) and Leeds Castle (50 minutes). For those of you who have a soft spot for heart-racing spectator activities, Lydden Hill Race Circuit (25 minutes) pulls off some great racing events throughout the year (just check the calendar in advance). However, in Betteshanger Park (10 minutes), you’ll be the one taking charge, as this country park has cycling trails or mountain biking courses for beginners or pros.
