Landguard Holiday Park

9.1

This campground/park does not currently take bookings here on Pitchup.com.

General

  • Friendly family park less than a mile from Shanklin
  • Indoor and outdoor pools, playground, bar and restaurant
  • Live entertainment all year at sister park next door

If you’re looking for a smallish holiday park in a quieter and relaxed location, but with easy access to a good range of facilities, have a butcher’s at Landguard Holiday Park on the Isle of Wight.

This friendly site, set in pretty woodland, has its own outdoor and indoor pools (plus curly whirly slide), a good playground and activity clubs for children up to the age of 11, amusements, a bar, restaurant and takeaway.

Venture off site to the nearby seaside resort of Shanklin (less than one mile away) for sandy beaches, arcades, and entertainment aplenty.

In peak season, there are family shows in the evenings in the Jesters Club: at quieter times, guests have access to Landguard’s sister site next door, Lower Hyde Holiday Park, which has live entertainment all year.

Noisy pitch next to us. Showers and common spaces could have been kept a little cleaner. It wasn't even busy.

The staff and friendly and helpful.

The campsite was beautiful and cleaned daily. The pitches are close to the toilets but not so close you can smell them. It's literally around 50 steps! The showers are consistently warm with large changing room cubicles next to your own personal shower. The toilets were cleaned daily and although slightly dated they were absolutely fine for what you needed them for!

The pitches are larger than what it states on the website (6x6m) allowing our 10 man - 3 pod tent to sit generously and room for 2 cars and a sitting area.

The swimming pool is clean and tidy and a shop on site allowing you to buy essentials, however Lidl, Aldi, Co-Op and Morrisons are all within a close/walking distance to the site.

Sandown beach and pier and Shanklin beach are 5 minutes (by car) away from the site.

I have really enjoyed my stay and will be returning next year.

    Disliked:

The restaurant on site is disappointing, very busy with very few staff. The meals took over an hour to come out and when they did they were embarrassing. The meals were missing items and the portions were small and cold. We got a full refund.

The road leading into the site could do with some maintenance.

    Disliked:

Badly sign posted entrance to camp area and to get to.
Unsure of entertainment options as changed on a daily basis and reception staff not informed therefore unable to inform holidaymakers.
Cobwebs and spiders on the ceiling when looking up to have a shower.
Water tap close to a dog poo bin.
Had an email through on day before arrival saying was able to book the 3 nights when had already booked the 2 nights and ferry.

Lots of activities and Carly was lovely and helpful.

    Disliked:

No food in restaurant as no chef. Pitches were far too close together and even though clear yellow lines between pitches lots of people had ignored them and this was not monitored by staff. Use of different coloured arm bands for use in pool for the hour seemed pointless as you could stay in as long as you liked. Couldn't use indoor pool as said it was busy, so we used outdoor which was heaving and a lot busier than the indoor.
