  • Lakeside site on the edge of the South Downs National Park
  • A 15-minute drive from central Winchester; 1.5 miles from Marwell Zoo
  • Fishing, archery, quad biking and other adventure sports
Zebras, tigers and bokibokies await in these handsome Hampshire surrounds – taking the kids to see Marwell Zoo's multitude of beasts is likely to make for some very happy hols indeed. Marwell Resort is within walking distance of this much-loved menagerie and is home to plenty of adventurous action in its own right – head here if you like the sound of oodles of outdoor activities in a pretty lakeside setting. The team at Marwell Resort have been instructing for more than 25 years, so they're well qualified to help you try out sports like archery, quad biking and clay pigeon shooting. Please note that many of these activities have a minimum age restriction applied- please check directly with the site. The site lake has a total of nine swims available for anglers (mega-sized carp can be found in its waters, including whoppers weighing up to 45 pounds). Surrounded as it is by trees, it also looks pretty fine (especially at sundown) and is a popular spot with local wildlife. Marwell Resort has strong all-round facilities, including toilets, showers and wifi. There's also an on-site bistro restaurant that serves up nourishing meals seven days a week. You can set up a barbecue and cook your own grub, too (stock up on fresh meat and veg 15 minutes' drive away at Westlands Farm Shop).

What customers say

This family park has roomy spots & heaps to do, like soft play, mini-golf & bushwalks. Staff are legends, facilities spotless, and it's a cracker spot near Marwell Zoo. While a few mentioned shower hiccups or noise, most loved it and wanna come back. The restaurant & bar get a big thumbs up.

Unpowered grass site

Liked The pitches were spacious, shower facilities and toilets weee kept generally clean. The evening entertainment was brilliant, lovely addition to our stay.
The food is lovely too, we had the Tomahawk steak (special) and it was cooked to perfection and tasted delicious. Well worth the money!!
The soft play area for the kids is a great addition. Everything you would want and more for a weekend of camping.

Disliked The showers were not letting out much water and the timing the water runs for is very short, however it really isn’t a major issue and when you’re camping it really is a minor thing and did not affect our stay whatsoever

Liked Pitch was a good size.
Clean and tidy.

Disliked Showers by the bar area appalling. Water shot everywhere with so much force, the shower curtain shot out.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We’re really pleased you found your pitch a good size and the site clean and tidy, but we’re genuinely sorry to hear that your experience with the showers let your stay down.

The issue you’ve described with the showers by the bar area certainly isn’t the standard we aim for. We do have a couple of different shower blocks across the site, and while this one clearly had plenty of pressure (better than none at all!), we completely understand it shouldn’t feel quite so overwhelming. We’ll be looking into this as a priority.

We’re disappointed to hear you wouldn’t return, but we do really appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback—it helps us improve. If you were open to giving us another try in the future, we’d love the opportunity to provide you with a much better experience.

Liked Spacious Pitches, good location of site, plenty of activities. Pizzas were fab as was live entertainment

Disliked Only downside was there was no shop open - even though out of season would have been nice to some basic supplies available to purchase.

Liked Such a nice campsite. Facilities were brilliant, staff are so friendly and the beer was cold! Softplay keeps the kids happy and the bar and restaurant are next door. Pizza oven was epic!

Disliked No dislikes bar they shut the bar early but out of season and no customers so can’t understand that, they have a business to run!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your fantastic review! We’re really pleased you enjoyed the facilities, friendly team, and of course the cold beer 🍻—and it’s great to hear the soft play and pizza oven were a hit too!

We appreciate your understanding regarding the bar closing a little earlier during quieter, out-of-season periods. We always try to balance things depending on how busy the site is, but we’ll definitely keep your feedback in mind.

We hope to welcome you back again soon for another great stay!

Local attractions

Marwell Zoo (five minutes' drive) has over 140 different species to admire – you can also leave the car back at base and stroll over (about 20 minutes) for a pedestrian safari. Paultons Park (25 minutes' drive) is another perennial fave for family-oriented days out – here you can meet Peppa Pig, crash down log flumes or opt for wanders through a dinosaur-filled forest. The South Downs National Park has some truly splendid hiking trails, including the 100-mile-long South Downs Way (the trail starts 15 minutes down the road in Winchester). Mountain bikers also have plenty to choose from around these parts – an exhilarating bike track through the woods is on hand in the nearby village of Bishopstoke (10 minutes). The gorgeous New Forest National Park (25 minutes) is also within easy reach, and one of the best ways to get around is by open-top tour bus. There are three routes to choose from – it all comes down to whether you prefer vistas of heather-covered heathland or coastal explores. Speaking of the sea, beaches like Lepe and Highcliffe Castle (both 40 minutes) are very much worth the journey (make sure to pack jelly shoes and a towel if at all tempted).
