Swimming and diving on site
The grass pitch
Entrance to site, and grass and gravel pitches

  • Peaceful site near the River Hamble: two pubs within walking distance
  • Six miles from Southampton and 12 from Portsmouth's ferry terminal
  • Set in scuba diving and open-water swimming lake grounds
Get set to get wet… with the Solent coast a couple of miles away, the Hamble river down the road and of course the lake on site, it’s safe to say that life pretty much revolves around the water at Andark Lake, a small and quiet grassy site six miles from the centre of Southampton. The main focal point here is the purpose-built scuba diving training lake, where wetsuit-clad types can sign up for training courses (when pre-booked) or recreational dives, hire kit and fill air tanks (for certified scuba divers). Open-water swims can be had for an extra charge at the weekends, when staff are on site and the place isn't in use by divers. Outside of swim time, there’s more water-based activity (sailing, paddleboarding, kitesurfing and windsurfing) along the riverside or at Swanwick Marina. Should all this aquatic activity have worked up a bit of a hunger, trot over to the site café for snacks and light lunches, plus hot and cold drinks throughout the day. For your evening meals, three pubs are within walking distance, or you can pick up supermarket supplies two miles away for a sunset sausage sizzle. Other amenities on site include a drinking water tap and a toilet block with male and female changing rooms, lockers and showers, all open 24/7. A coldwater sink is available in the pitching field where guests can wash pots and pans, and an accessible toilet is available on request.

What customers say

Quiet lakeside spot, great for swimming/diving. Clean facilities, friendly staff, close to pubs & walks. Some uneven pitches & traffic noise. Wash-up & shower temps could be better.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Generous sized pitches . Lots of open space for children to play. Woodland for walking dog. Wild swimming if desired .
Pleasant surroundings. Staff friendly.

Disliked Toilets and showers not always clean probably due to swimmers in and out from the lake.
Quite noisy due to busy road traffic in distance.

Powered grass and gravel campervan site

Liked 15 minutes walk to train station; friendly personal; area is arranged with lots of love

Disliked non automatic email with code for entrance as well as pitch number sent; no dish washing station available, cleanliness of shower + for men, only one shower was in operational mode; site should allow campers to use the lake for swiming after opening times and for free (e.g., on their own risk).

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Location to m27

Disliked Both gates were wide open when I arrived at 7pm - not closed and locked like they were supposed to be so unsafe

Arrived at pitch and someone else was parked in it - so just pitch up anywhere

Wooded area at the back was being used as a toilet - tissue and human waste just inside - the barbed wire fence pushed away so security not ideal, add in unlocked open gates …. Unsafe
For the money …. I’d look elsewhere next time.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Hidden away site despite easy access to all around, walkable to several eateries and the cafe on site is great.

Disliked Lots of road noise. There was a loud party on the Saturday night. The toilets/showers weren't the cleanest, especially after the saturday night party.

Powered grass and gravel motorhome site

Liked Very peaceful and we enjoyed watching the activities on the lake. The local pub(short walking distance ) was lovely also.

The pitch provided the hook up which is something I’ve not had before and saved us from using our own.

The cafe on site was excellent and staff were very friendly.

Disliked The pitches with hook up were a little on the small side but we were only on a stop over for the ferry in the morning.

Liked Great location and great little site. Basic and functional. Especially good if you’re into your diving or wild swimming. Good open space in tent field with only a few tents so was good for a kick around with the kids.
