  • Rural dog-friendly adults-only site in Sherfield English
  • Half an hour's drive from Salisbury and 10 minutes from the New Forest
  • On a working farm with 21 acres; café a short walk away
To Hampshire for a holiday in a rather relaxed, kid-free spot? Meadow Tree Farm is a nearly-wild site with basic facilities on a working beef farm. Friendly and adults-only, it is spread over 21 acres on the edge of the village of Sherfield English, about 10 minutes' drive from Romsey. There's plenty of space for you (and any doggie companions you may have brought along) to chill out on site and, most importantly, a café a short walk away. Fishing lakes are next door and there are fab trails for ramblers and cyclists a few miles away in the New Forest National Park. Back at base, the laidback vibe is preserved by keeping facilities to a minimum, but the essentials are all in place, including toilets, showers and a washing-up area. Sounds good? You'd better be quick: Meadow Tree Farm is a pop-up site that's only open for a limited amount of time each year.

What customers say

A laid-back, adults-only farm campsite. Blokes dig the woodland/field sites & dog-friendly vibe, raving about the top bloke owners. Basic but clean facilities with upgrades coming. A few mention farm smells/old bits, but the peace & value are a winner. Perfect for a no-frills country break.

Liked Nice working farm site with quite pitches.

Disliked Facilities are very tired but usable. They are in need of a thorough deep clean. I am not a fan of this type of unisex facilities.

Unpowered forest floor tent site

Liked Adult only, fires allowed, woodland area layout and arrangement where it felt spacious but secluded at the same time, views from woodland to the open lake.

Disliked 1. High priority: The shower desperately needs serious remediation. We suggest decomissioning that shower (mould has grown into the walls) and having standalone shower hut 1/2 size portacabin away from the toilet block. Could even be outdoor shower with privacy enclosure.

Unpowered grass motorhome site

Liked A pop-up site with the basics covered, in a very pleasant setting with friendly owner too. It's a working farm so, yes there are flies and occasional smells but that's part of countryside life. The toilets are definitely not glamorous but everything was fully functional and cleaned regularly. Great spot to sit and relax with friends, watch the birds and wildlife and enjoy the church bells in the distance. The little pond area is charming and the tent camping in the woods looked lovely too.

Disliked I didn't check my van's fly screen fitted before I arrived so I was squeezing through a too small door all weekend... but that's 100% on me and it was all that was needed to keep the flies outside.

Unpowered forest floor tent site

Liked I loved everything about this site aside from the shower, but it didn’t spoil our trip at all!
Kylie and the dogs were lovely, always so helpful and the other facilities were great for the price you pay (toilets always clean, soap & paper towels available and toilet roll always stocked up). There were fire pits and picnic benches dotted around everywhere, as well as bricks so bbqs were really easy to keep off the ground.
I emailed ahead of booking as I had some queries and responses were quick and helpful.
Although there were other groups there, the group camping area was covered with trees which meant noise didn’t travel. The campsite is lovely to walk around, a short drive to the New Forest and booking was really easy.

Disliked Just the shower

Unpowered grass motorhome site

Liked Non nonsense campsite. Great for peaceful time. Grass pitches, some with EHU if required.
Welcoming owner, very laid back.
Beautiful lake under development with woodland tent pitches.
Nice dog walks around the area.
Great coffee shop/nursery up the road.
The facilities are basic but sufficient.
It is only open for a limited time each year so booking is advised.

Disliked I had to come home too soon.

Local attractions

Bring your boots along, for there’s much rural rambling to be done in the New Forest National Park around a 10-minute drive from Meadow Tree Farm. Bike trails run through the forest too, and you can saddle up to see the wildlife from horseback at a riding centre a few minutes’ drive from the site. Other open-air activities nearby include teeing off at one of the golf courses within a 15-minute drive or swinging through the trees at the Go Ape park half an hour away. Sailing lessons and boat trips can be had from Southampton or Lymington, both within a 45-minute drive. For history-infused days out, head to Salisbury or pay a visit to Romsey Abbey, Breamore House or the vintage car collection at Beaulieu, all of which are within a half an hour’s drive. For animal antics, Marwell Zoo is also about half an hour away.
