Walk to hebden bridge from heptonstall

  • Scenic, well-drained flat field on the edge of Heptonstall
  • A 20-minute walk to Hebden Bridge; Hardcastle Crags 10 minute's drive
  • Simple dog-friendly pitches; pubs, café and shop a short walk away
When you’re taking on the Pennine Way or filling your days exploring the likes of Hardcastle Crags, it's quite likely that you’ll be in the mood for a good feed and a decent drink at the end of the day. It's handy indeed, then, that Heptonstall Camping is one of those places where you can be out and about in proper countryside by day and then in the village pub come evening time. This simple and open site is right next to the Pennine Way with excellent views up towards Hardcastle Crags, so it’s no surprise to hear that it’s a great spot for walking, hiking and bike rides. And thankfully it’s also a great spot for those post-exertion treats – the site is on the edge of the hilltop village of Heptonstall, a short walk from its convenience store, excellent café and two pubs (both serving up good meals). For more options on all fronts, it’s a 20-minute walk down the hill to Hebden Bridge (with a bus service for the way back if you don’t fancy the climb). Pitches at Heptonstall Camping are on a well-drained and pleasingly flat field with good access from the road. It’s a ‘wild-style’ camping setup here, so please note there are no toilets or showers on site, and you’ll need to be self-contained on that front. You’ll be allowed to bring a barbecue along to cook your meals (please note no open fires, however) and dogs are welcome on site too.

What customers say

Highly rated, basic campsite with great views & handy location near pubs, shops & transport to Hebden Bridge. Owners friendly, pitches spacious & flat. Peaceful vibe. Basic facilities, but good value for money, loved by those seeking a 'wild camping' feel.

Liked Lovely plot
Lots of nature near by
The owner was a really lovely gent
Everything as described, can’t fault it. Other campers were lovely too. Really nice atmosphere and will definitely be staying again
There’s a bus stop that will take you up and down the very big hill to and from Hebden bridge
Don’t turn left up the hill, go around or you will have to drive through a tight, uphill cobbled road

Liked Great location, easy and no issues with check in or check out time. Lots of space and owner was lovely and helpful

Disliked Some people on the site were absolutely awful. The complete lack of awareness, consideration, and basic respect from a few guests on what’s meant to be a family-friendly campsite was unbelievable. They were blasting loud music with flashing lights until midnight (and likely would’ve carried on later if the owner hadn’t stepped in), shouting late into the night, then started karaoke at 9am the next morning. To make it worse, they were annoyed when the owner asked them to turn it down. The level of entitlement was staggering. Not the owners fault, but it ruined our night, maybe some stricter enforcements could be implemented but can’t give a bad score for the poor behaviour of others.

Liked Beautiful location, views from your pitch are amazing. It's based on a farmers land surrounded by sheep in adjacent fields.
Drinking water tap available.
Bins to dispose of rubbish are behind the toilets
2 x compost/portaloos available on site, with handwashing and stocked with toilet roll regularly. The toilets weren't always the freshest but if each person left it as clean it would be better..
The farmer is regularly on site taking rubbish, checking the toilets etc.
He checks on his guests and takes the time to share his local knowledge of heptonstall (a very lovely guy)
Its a short walk into the historic town heptonstall, well worth a day exploring.
We will definitely come back

Liked Lovely campsite. Beautiful views. Really great farmer - very helpful with local information.

Disliked Fellow campsite users playing loud music on both sides of us - arrrggghh. However it was a hot bank holiday weekend and they were having fun so probably unusual.

Heading out into the countryside, you should certainly stop by for a walk along the many miles of paths at National Trust - Hardcastle Crags (10 minutes’ drive), in the grounds of a historic 19th-century mill. Bridestones Moor (10 minutes), Stoodley Pike (15 minutes) and Lumb Hole Falls (20 minutes) are some of the other local hotspots to seek out for a good walk. Up in Haworth (25 minutes), you can learn about the lives of the famed authors at the Brontë Parsonage Museum before taking a ride on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.
