  • Well-maintained family-owned park on a working farm
  • 15 minutes' drive to Pickering and a short walk to Hutton-le-Hole
  • Luxury heated shower and toilet facilities in a walkers' paradise
How does a hillside setting among the highly scenic North York Moors sound for a holiday? Just fab? Make with haste to the farm site of Hutton Le Hole Caravan Park in the North York Moors National Park, a short walk down the hill from the village of Hutton-le-Hole, and among spectacular scenery in a walkers' paradise. You're within driving distance of several famed North Yorkshire locations from here – York, Whitby and Scarborough are all 50 to 55 minutes away – or you could opt to stay close to home instead, for farm-based and moor-based walks, steaming around on vintage railways, and investigating Yorkshire's old and grand homes such as Castle Howard, half an hour from the farm. (Or just munch your way around instead: market towns like Pickering and Kirkbymoorside are close by, along with farm shops, tearooms and eateries of all sorts.) The park is on a working family farm, a short downhill walk from Hutton-le-Hole village, and has a dog-walking area and a farm walk to potter around. It's a level and free-draining site, with plentiful drinking water points around the grounds and with excellent amenities including a utility room with laundry, fridge/ freezer and microwave, and a luxury heated amenities block with family rooms and hot showers. For the safety of all guests (and the grass and nearby crops), large barbecues, firepits and naked flames aren't allowed on site. Small controlled barbecues are fine, but you'll need to be responsible and make sure they don't burn the grass, trees or hedges.

What customers say

Lovely, quiet spot in the North York Moors. Clean loos, big pitches, and friendly staff. Great farm walk too. Just a heads-up, facilities can be stretched when it's busy, and showers can be a bit hit-and-miss with temp/pressure. Village walk is steep but short.

Liked Everything was great, sent details with address (what three words) John the warden was there as we were looking for correct pitch told us everything we needed to know, for the size of site it was pretty quiet as a few were seasonal pitches, which was perfect for us.

Disliked Few midges on our pitch with the trees i think.

Liked Beautiful site! Very well kept! Stayed in shepherd's hut - fantastic facilities, shower was good! Even had an airfryer and toastie maker. Very clean! Gorgeous views. Take a fan if you're going when it's warm though cuz it was super hot (insane temps for England though!) - I had anticipated the heat and glad I took a fan. The most delicious cherries on the tree right beside the hut however, you will have to fight the wasps for them ha. Checked out the rest of the facilities for the crack - they are lovely and well kept too! Friend stayed in one of the glamping tents so I checked that out too - also lush! Had a short drive into Pickering to break the weekend up - nice enough to have a short walk round and poke your head in a few cute shops. Stopped at lion inn on way home (up in the moors) and had a Sunday dinner... was lush!

Disliked Could of done with a sign for where the shepherd's Hut actually is on site. The postcode for the park tries to take you to a random place so watch out for that.

From the manager: What a great review! Thanks for some great photos and description! We have put the Hut on the map you receive but after that you have to find it, it's all part of the fun. You were quite correct in not using the post code - it covers three address, two of which are NOT caravan parks. We have information on our website to help you with that.
Glad you enjoyed your stay and for leaving some cherries!

From the manager: Our bell tents with a proper double bed are just great to make the most of the area without having to drag your camping gear with you. Just bring your own stuff and some food. The tent and kitchen are set up for you, we even supply the kettle and hot running water at your tent. A short walk to the facilities which incudes toilets, showers, laundry and information. Glamping really is that much fun!

John is always so helpful and happy to share his local knowledge, find him on site and ask him for his favourites.

Didn't use the shower block so can't comment.

Liked Beautiful caravan park in a lovely countryside setting suited mainly for adults. The site is well maintained with excellent toilet and shower facilities and is near to some lovely villages and many excellent country pubs. Special thanks to the lovely site wardens who were helpful and friendly.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Our staff are so important and it's nice to hear they are so helpful and friendly to our customers. You're quite right in that we don't provide lots of things for children to do but families now seem to bring their own toys and activities so we are happy to have them on site and know they have lots of space to run around and enjoy the farm walk if they still have energy to burn after a busy day!
The pub in the village tends to book up fairly quickly so always ring and reserve your table if you think you're heading that way but there are lots of other pubs locally a short drive away. Ask us and we can recommend!

Local attractions

The park is well set for the North York Moors National Park and its many attractions, or for free range wandering around the area's market towns, garden centres and farm shops. Two fab family options are a short drive away: the theme park and the UK's most visited zoo of Flamingo Land, within 20 minutes, and spectacularly scenic rides on the North York Moors Railway, starting at Pickering 15 minutes' drive from the farm. The railway winds up at Whitby, another fab option for families, sand seekers and vampire hunters. Some stunning walks are around if you're here to hike, such as the 109-mile Cleveland Way starting at Helmsley (15 minutes' drive) to run all the way to the coast at Saltburn. For a fully coastal walk, you could also tackle the Wolds Way, starting at Hessle about an hour and a half's drive south, to end up at Filey on a 79-mile route. Other local options include Ryedale Folk Museum, a mile and a half away, the local lavender farms, and a look at the scented trade at Yorkshire Lavender at Terrington and Wolds Way Lavender in Wintringham, both within 35 minutes' drive.
