  • Peaceful Shropshire farm park with views of Lodge Hill and The Wrekin
  • A 15-minute drive to Church Stretton; 25 to Shrewsbury
  • On-site half-acre fishing lake; fresh eggs available
Get set for a peaceful stay at The Shepherd's Loft, a family-run farm in the Shropshire countryside with just excellent views of Lodge Hill and The Wrekin. It sits in the quiet village of Frodesley, which is not only easy to get to but also splendid for stargazing (it's near the dark skies of the Shropshire Hills). You'll know for sure that you're in the countryside, with fresh eggs for sale at the gate. Guests here can look forward to good on-site facilities, including a well-maintained private toilet and a hot shower unit, both kept to a high standard for your comfort. A farm shop is five minutes' drive away, and more shops and supermarkets are in Shrewsbury, 25 minutes' drive away. How to fill your days? There are walks directly from the site, plus plenty more to explore in the Shropshire Hills National Landscape. Bring a rod to try the fishing pond on site, which is available to use for an additional fee. For culinary treats, you might also like to head to the foodie town of Ludlow (35 minutes).

What customers say

A quiet country spot with stunning views. Visitors rave about the friendly welcome and clean loos. A few found the single shower/toilet tricky when busy, and the dishwashing area occasionally lacked hot water. Farm goodies like eggs and jam are a hit.

Liked Quite remote country location. Dark skies, great for stargazing. Nice quiet site, good facilities, elec and water on pitch. Very unspoiled and rural. Enjoyed staying here.

Disliked Country lanes require care when approaching, especially in large motorhome.

Liked We enjoyed meeting the animals. It was also peaceful which is what we wanted.

Disliked The facilities were limited for the amount of pitches. I would have thought there should be more. Unfortunately other guests kept leaving it messy which was not the owners fault.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your review and for recommending us to friends. We’re delighted you enjoyed meeting the animals and found the peaceful atmosphere you were looking for.

We’re sorry that the behaviour of other guests affected your experience of the facilities. We work hard to keep the site and facilities clean and tidy, so it’s disappointing when they are not left as they were found.

We also appreciate your feedback regarding the number of facilities. As a small site, we currently have one toilet and shower facility, although we have already laid the concrete base for an additional toilet and hope to have this installed very soon. We’re always looking at ways to improve the site while retaining the small, peaceful feel that our guests enjoy.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re pleased you would visit again, and we hope to welcome you back for another peaceful stay in the future!

Disliked very narrow lanes getting their. a lot of biting flies.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and for recommending us to friends. We’re pleased you enjoyed our location and would consider visiting again.

We appreciate your feedback about the narrow lanes. Being tucked away in the countryside does mean the approach includes some narrow Shropshire lanes, and we always advise guests to follow our directions carefully and take their time.

As for the biting flies, unfortunately that’s one of the less glamorous parts of staying in the countryside, particularly during the warmer months! We’re sorry they were a nuisance during your stay.

Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope to welcome you back for another, hopefully more bite-free, visit

From the manager: Thank you for your review! We’re really pleased you enjoyed the peaceful surroundings and found the shower and toilet facilities clean and accessible. It’s also lovely to hear that you’d visit us again.

Thank you for your feedback regarding the washing-up facilities. We do have a designated washing-up area on site, but we’re sorry if this wasn’t obvious during your stay. We’ll look at how we can make it easier for guests to find and use.

We appreciate you taking the time to leave your feedback and hope to welcome you back again soon

Liked Only 7 pitches and we had the site to ourselves, tho it was a Sunday night, so lovely and peaceful. Basic site but had everything you needed, toilet block was clean and shower was lovely and hot. Would stay there again.

Disliked A little updating in the showerblock would be good as there was a slightly rusty chair and bin. The shower cubicle itself was looking a little jaded but it was clean

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely review and for recommending us to friends—we really appreciate it!

We’re delighted you enjoyed the peace and quiet of the site and that you had it almost to yourselves. Being a small site is something many of our guests love, and we’re pleased you found it had everything you needed. It’s also great to hear you found the facilities clean and enjoyed a lovely hot shower.

Thank you as well for your constructive feedback about the shower block. We really appreciate you taking the time to mention it. We’re continually making improvements to the site, and refreshing the facilities is part of our ongoing plans. Your comments are very helpful as we prioritise those updates.

We’re so pleased to hear you would stay with us again, and we look forward to welcoming you back for another peaceful countryside escape soon

From the manager: Thank you for your review! We’re delighted you enjoyed the picturesque surroundings, the peaceful atmosphere, and found everything clean and welcoming. Your kind comments about the friendly welcome are very much appreciated.

We understand that our location may feel a little remote to some visitors. Being tucked away in the countryside is part of what creates the peace, quiet, and beautiful views that many guests come here to enjoy, while still being within easy reach of local attractions, walks, and market towns.

Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope to welcome you back for another relaxing stay in the future! 😊🌿

Local attractions

Once you’ve warmed up on the local footpaths, set off for longer strolls in the Shropshire Hills, perhaps starting from the walkers’ mecca Church Stretton (15 minutes’ drive) at the foot of the Long Mynd. Caer Caradoc (10 minutes) and the Wrekin (half an hour) are close by if you’d rather tackle a mountain or two. Quad biking, horse riding and River Severn canoe trips are all possible too if you don’t mind a drive of 45 minutes or so. For a bit of local history, start with Acton Burnell Castle (five minutes), the seat of the first Parliament in 1283, then move on to Wroxeter (15 minutes) to explore the Roman City and then take a tour and tasting at the vineyard next door. You could also embark on a Charles Darwin-themed tour of Shrewsbury (25 minutes). Ironbridge (25 minutes) is another fine place for a glimpse into the past, as is the lovely National Trust estate Attingham Park (20 minutes). Or try the Telford Steam Railway (25 minutes) for a special day out.
